D&D roleplays have been attempted in the past. I find it rather confusing, but if someone can dumb it down for a moron such as myself, I'm in 100%. :D

It could be possible if we find a chat service which allows private rooms. I could DM, as I have a great DM program for Mac. There was a website for dice rolls, which was posted in the Online DnD Thread. The only thing we need is a service which allows private rooms. Could one look for this while I go out tonight?

There are multiple free private chats, chatzy is one for an example. It is all about when we can get enough people on to play and already have a "Dungeon" set up.

Damn. OK, Chatzy will work, but we need to figure out how to share maps. Can you post images on Chatzy?

I have no idea, I just know about it but have no idea how it works.

I've got a competition idea. What if we had everyone who wanted to compete draw a picture of some sort of warrior, thief, etc., and then people vote for which one they think is the best drawn and coolest :?:

I just wanted to add my two cents in with an idea for a competition.

We could write some prose that flesh out a single thought, or moment in time. Like in reality it could be frozen or moving quite slowly, and we write a bit of prose/poetry that completely describes it in a sort of surreal way.

That probably didn't make much sense...

I think I get what you're saying, Hadrianus. I mean, I get the concept, but I can't put it into words any more clearly than you already have.

Thank you. I tend to love that sort of writing, although it is difficult to refrain from creating an over descriptive blunder, there is a certain art to this 'moment in time' prose/poetry :P

That sounds very interesting, and it seems like others agree. I think we can do that in the near future. If you want to PM me with a little more in depth explanation or idea so I make sure I get it, feel free!

Don't forget, guys, that we have artists here on the forums too. Don't be afraid to suggest some good ideas for drawing competitions as well! You writers can't have all the fun. ;)

How about a create an interesting character comp.? You come up with a character, a back story, ambitions and other details and then the best is selected by the forum. The judging is all on the creativity and thought behind the character, which makes him/her interesting.

P.S. Apologies if this has already come up.

Good idea, OblivionDuruza. The character in the game is our very alter ego, our real touch point to the whole game and all there is to it, including lore and surroundings.

I support.

You seem to have very popular ideas around here. ;) This is really great! We'll see it soon!

Okay another idea (although maybe not exactly an idea for a competition for a particular month, rather an ongoing thing). How about a "Post of the Month" type thing where a set of criterion is devised that outlines what the perfect post on the forums should be (following all the guidlines, adding valuable information, providing links to additional info/citing references etc.) and then every month a post could be chosen or posts could be nominated to become an example for others so that newer members get an idea of what they should aim for in a post. What do you all think?

True, I thought of that. But hopefully it would encourage others to become more like them and to develop areas of real expertise so that soon we would have many members like Jeff and H8Ball .

That has been discussed, but basically there's the problem of how visible posts are, in various topics: "Any good topic in Off Topic gets a lot of eyes reading it, whereas a topic in say, The Tech Desk, doesn't get the same attention no matter how many people it may help."

It's a good idea, I support it as such, but the practical limitations force me to say no. And having all the criteria there calculated would lead to an almost impossible equation of variables... costing at least Ratwar his night sleep.

Within a certain sector it could be accomplished. :)

Maybe a nomination system then? The criteria could just be something posted as an announcement and anybody that finds a post they really think was helpful could nominate it (either simply by posting on a designated thread (post of the month nomination thread?) with a quote and/or link; or by having some sort of nominate option like the warn button?). A panel (maybe the Mod team or at least a nominated panel involving them) could then decide the best and then quote it somewhere official so that many users could see it (perhaps a separate "Post of the Month Thread"). Just brainstorming here, it may need a bit more work to iron out more of the practical details.

This idea reminds very much of the "Member of the month" idea. We're not so keen about these in UESP, because it leads to the prospect of "Most words per month", "Best potatoes of month", and whatever. We can have competitions about anything, but we don't really want it. We actually like the Forum as it is, and like most new members have described it: A place with a warm heart, where members support each other.

As far as I know the moderator squad, we're not so very interested in this. However, we are kind of interested in supporting the growth of various clubs / guilds... what you could do, is to start something of your own for this, like the hat club is. Say, "The best reply of the month club". No harm in there, and you would have your own freedom - we = moderators could even give you an announcement when you finish your vote --- no promises here, though!

But as an official UESP thing, I don't think it will happen. You're free to ask other moderators, of course - as always, any of you. :)

I know we did not do a competition last month (So sorry, everyone!), but don't lose hope, UESP: the July CotM has been announced! Go check it out!

As for the Competition of the Month, and for other things you would like to see, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for special little challenges we could offer from time to time - especially when I am too busy off the forums to amply prepare a proper CotM. There might be possibilities for little "mini challenges" or events that everyone could participate in, even if you're not a writer or an artist...such as a screenshot contest, or forum scavenger hunt, or something of the like. These are just ideas in the bowl, though, nothing concrete, but what does everyone think? Do you have any additional ideas of your own?

(And now that these competitions are officially "off the ground," look forward to seeing some of the ideas here in this thread appearing in the next month or so. Don't be discouraged if your ideas haven't been used yet - I just haven't worked them into the schedule yet. I won't ignore anyone's idea, I promise! )

Blackfire mentioned a photography competition.

I could swing a photography competition. But I also want to make sure people will be involved. CotMs aren't fun if no one participates. Hint hint, nudge nudge.

If anyone is interested I could try a photography competition for September or November. I would like to try some not TES-themed things, but being a TES forum I would like to focus on the thread that binds us together, of course. What would you guys like to see in that sense? Or do you have clever ideas?
