There are some sensible topics in there, though. We just need someone to clean most of the spam posts, delete or archive the duplicate topics, etc.

I'm aware of the state of that place, I mean, how could I not be. We all are. However, I didn't realise that people were quite so unhappy about it. My philosophy on the place was that if you didn't like it, you didn't go in, and since it's pretty much being nuked in November it doesn't have to hurt anyone. Personally, I'm not reading through it because I don't want to spoil too much of the surprise, and as every minute detail is being discussed in there it's currently not my favourite place in the world. However, if you feel it is detracting from the quality of the forums, then of course I'll look at what needs to be done and then attempt to do it. Bear in mind that there is a lot of stuff in there, and I am not going to wade in and start deleting huge swathes of the section because I do not want to have to deal with the backlash. But I will look into it, that I can promise.

The obvious problem with that is that the problems in Skyrim will invade the other, better, forums if we remove it. The wiki had similar problems with Skyrim as people were making articles about it randomly, this problem died away when we finally launched our first Skyrim article. Restarting the entire forum (Archiving every topic and laying down new rules specific to that forum that are highly enforced) seems like a temporary solution to me, though it is considerably better than the former. The mod team should really consider restarting that forum before it gets more out of hand.

I'd make myself a Goof Moderator, but be a greenie in disguise like Arvon.

I wouldn't want to tread on anybody's toes, but starting over, or an archiving session could help. Some stikies and a reaffirmation of the rules to users in that forum, might also help, but then, that's a lot of effort for a Forum that will be shut soon. I just hope the bbad habits don't get carried over to the new Forum.

I am tending to avoid it at present, but there is a fair amount of use to be had from it (a la River's helpful news updates).

@Tom: That's completely reasonable Tom, I can imagine the backlash, from what I've observed already, not pretty.

@Scoz: the opinions have been getting pretty hot lately, there are some people in particular, who always seem to butt heads.

But a lot of people are here solely to speculate about Skyrim. I don't think it needs to go, just some stricter rules, maybe.

I agree, people just need to be told how they are expected to behave, it's not all bad, but it's being dragged down a fair bit.

Starting over would cause a serious backlash. There are members that only patrol the Skyrim forum that would not see it as a good thing for the forums. And they would get very angry.
But nonetheless, it is good idea, but I feel that it would end up the same as it is right now.
We've had experiences with new members not reading certain rules. It'll probably happen with the Skyrim rules. New members might not read. Therefore starting the cycle again.

I realize that. It would probably be fine for an amount of time, but then it will just end up the same as it is now.

Still, the Spartans had a good way of dealing with their slaves. At the beginning of every year the Spartans would declare war on the slaves and mass murder them. That system would work really well for the Skyrim forum, except it is done every month.

Isn't it being cleared when Skyrim comes out.

Start mass banning people? Haha, fun no doubt, but I don't think it's the way to go, really.

Well maybe we need another Scoz for the Skyrim Forum?

I know that, still I just would like to see that done a good three times more interim.

I don't mean mass bannings, just clear out the forum of all threads so we can build anew atop the ashes.

That takes effort to do.

I know, Duruza. Another mod though... Maybe only temporarily.

True, but the mods could put the foot down on those who don't follow the rules, or at least direct them to the rules if they haven't read them.

We don't need more mods per se, it just might make that easier for them.

Temp could work, but I'm not so interested in the how, as that something is being done, or that at least the team knows.

Like I said, we don't necessarily need more, just for more to be done

Exactly. If we truly needed to, we would only need a temporary mod until the Skyrim forum dies down a bit.

Discussing, good, just so long as it doesn't drag on ... oh well, I trust the team and that's not about to change.

I wish to say that when I arrived here, you welcomed me, pointed me in the right direction and showed me this was a place friendly players could chill out, have fun and more importantly set the tone for my time here. Such a person like your self can turn a troll in to a good forum user by simple setting an example when they first arrive and if you continue to do that, moderators will have an easier time on the forum because of the actions of users like your self putting a friendly face on the site for new arrivals to see.

So if I was a moderator, I would make 50 clones of you OblivionDuruza and then invade beths forums with my army of Duruiza Mark 1 Clones and teach them how to make a friendly forum too :)
