HatofMadness, in the latter part of his name, gave me the idea for this topic. Now, you can take it seriously, or you can take it with humor. Up to you. I'm biased, so I won't give a start. 8)

First of all I would be both honoured and completely terrified if I was asked to become a moderator. I would probably accept, unless I had something going on in my life that required too much attention. I suppose I'd have to stop colouring my posts then, in order to be taken seriously :P I would do whatever I could for the forums. Cleaning threads, helping members with questions etc. I'd try to keep my moderating casual and not too serious and grumpy. As many others have said, a moderator is simply a member with more responsibilities. That's exactly what I would be.

I can't imagine I'd change a whole lot, probably wouldn't post in color and change my sig to something simpler (I'd keep the Jawa though)

Interesting topic, I guess I have sort of stated my views, but I think as a mod (if I ever was a mod) I would take a lassiez faire approach. I love being a member, so I would try to stay a member and a friend.

I might not be the best person for making decisions because I tend to second guess myself a lot and I worry about how people will react and feel, but I am good at the simple stuff.

I think it's important for mods to be approachable, transparent and fair. I'd probably encourage PMs, but I'd also start a little thread that would allow new users who can't PM and users who want to make more public queries and comments, to talk to me in a manner that is slightly easier than PMs and emails.

I would always PM and post before locking (unless blatant advertising or serious threatening behaviour) and would use all that free reading time I have when the forums are slow on my time, to get to know users and threads that I see as potentially lock-worthy, so as to get a good understanding of the ramifications of my actions.

I'd also remain active in my forum groups, especially TES related ones like the Great Houses, as I see them as an increasingly important aspect of the forums. I'd also keep frequenting the Welcomes and Goodbyes and meeting the new users so as not to cause old v. new tensions.

I'm not saying I'd be perfect, I might fail completely, but that's how I personally wounded approach the responsibility. Obviously different people work better in different ways and I'm not saying the current mods should do this, I think they do a great job.

P.S. I'd also keep the colour because I'm still the same user, I'd just post in my mod colour for serious posts and try and stay low-key as I mentioned. Black's not that different from the default either. :D

I would chain up all the other admins, seed the seeds of despair convince them not to run against me in the form of perma bans. i would make friends with trolls, I would make sure to be an unjust and easily corruptible leader. I would give rights to advertisers and ban the people who dare oppose of them. I would ban people just for fun. I would ban people for leaving me out of their fun :). I would troll at every opportunity because I can get away with it I'm a admin (plus the other admins can't do anything I chained them up) I would change my sig so its 5 times bigger then the allowed limit. I would change everyones name to slave. I would allow Mehrunes Dagon to rampage around the forums.

So In other words I'd be the best admin ever

You guys have some interesting ideas, I'll say that. How would you handle balancing the forums and their responsibilities with your actual lives, I wonder?

So could be an admin?? I'd be the very best, I'm sure mehrunes Dagon would approve.

Well it be fairly easy for me at the moment, not having a job commitment. Of-course completing my education comes first, but I'm actually on the forums a lot as it is. Obviously it's important to draw a line, I like to keep different aspects of my life fairly separate.

I've been a mod on 3 or 4 different boards, main ones were halo2boards and halo3boards, no, neither site is even active anymore so its not advertising.. But we had roughly 15-20 mods on halo 2 boards, extremely active back in 04-07, then halo 3 boards was active from 06-08 then that was it for them pretty much.. We of course made sure people didn't spam, use profanity in a horrible way(a little here and there is okay, just don't overdo it), make sure there are no dupe topics, ensure that banned/boxed members do not recreate a second account(ip ban), come up with ideas(for instance, promote board growth, tournaments with members, do stunts with members..), keep interesting things to talk about always and be an example for other board members who post..

I'd ban mars straight way for dissing my taste in music. Nah kidding!  I mean it's not like I've done that before on other forums... that's just crazy. <.< >.> <.< >.>
I'd just do what I do on the other forums... mess around with the other mods/admins, but more seriously, I'd just do what the current mods do, and try to better these great Forums...

I would love to be one of those mods that make you feel really comfortable, that just acts like an equal, posts in forums for discussion, and makes sure everyone is following the rules of course.
I would love to be a mod on here, so I would also be flattered, excited, and more optimistic than usual after that!
I would also be on here more often. If that is even possible! o;

Heh, I've been a moderator twice, and here... I dunno, my moderation style wouldn't work here. Not bothering with board warning, but either giving verbal warnings or short bans as slap on the wrist of sorts. I guess maybe give a one hour ban for users senselessly spamming the General Discussion thread... If I actually cared about that rule. A thread for spam seems alright to me.

Oh wow, what a horrible thought, nyk.

I hate modding forums, I was a mod on a forum once, quit after a month since it turned it into a place of work instead of fun. [For me]
I'm not very good at mixing the two. :\

So if I was a mod, I'd probably just ban everyone except the people I agree with... Yes.

First of all, I'd say "What idiot decided to make me a moderator?"

I imagine I would be rather lenient and quite tolerant as far as moderation goes. My policy for most things is to keep things relaxed. What I'd want to avoid is what Knight Commander Meredith does in Dragon Age 2, re: mages..."The tighter she squeezed, the more they resisted. And the more they resisted, the tighter she squeezed."

Like Matt, I'd spend a lot of time in the RP section, cleaning up threads and generally trying to improve the health and state of the subforum. Same thing for Morrowind. Probably keep an eye on the Skyrim section, especially as the release date for Skyrim grows closer.

I'm sure I'd come to adopt a "PM first, then warn, and finally [temporarily] ban" sort of mantra. Being understanding with all manner of folks, especially the foreign and younger ones.

Having a role as a moderator is just that, a role. There's no need to suddenly act different and above all the folks you know or knew. You're not a dictator or even in a "boss" sort of role; your purpose is to guide, not to control. When folks start feeling the slightest bit repressed, you know you're doing something wrong, and have to change. In order to realize what you have to change, you must constantly ask for feedback, and actually act on that feedback rather than using it as a way to appease your fellow forumites.

Finally, I'd try to encourage mature discussion about debate topics, because members of this community have often shown their ability to politely and respectfully debate in such topics. If anything got too heated, of course it would be locked, but discussion would be welcomed rather than tentatively allowed.

In light of recent developments (that is the state of the Skyrim Forum), I'm very inclined to agree that the Skyrim Forum needs attention. So that's what I would focus on, I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record a bit, but I actually avoid the Skyrim Forums after some of the things I've observed there.

You and I both, if that forum goes any farther south everyone in it will have to start speaking Spanish. The obvious problem with the forum is that it will always end in arguing, there is no way to conclusively solve any arguments in that forum about the game because we don't have the game. Everything in that forum goes in circles because of this.

I agree. It's an absolute mess. I don't want to sound like the moderators are doing their job wrong, but it really needs more help than it's getting. Almost every topic becomes a flame war, people post pointless posts like, "I agree" and maybe even more spammy and pointless messages.
I know having a new moderator isn't easy to do, because Ratwar isn't exactly here all the time. But Skyrim needs help, as, in my eyes, it can only get worse if action isn't taken.
