If I were a mod, I would abolish this nonsense where I've been here longer than seven of the current mods.

You're implying that a mod's eligibility be based on the time when one member (you) joined; that's rather unreasonable.

I wish to say that when I arrived here, you welcomed me, pointed me in the right direction and showed me this was a place friendly players could chill out, have fun and more importantly set the tone for my time here. Such a person like your self can turn a troll in to a good forum user by simple setting an example when they first arrive and if you continue to do that, moderators will have an easier time on the forum because of the actions of users like your self putting a friendly face on the site for new arrivals to see.

So if I was a moderator, I would make 50 clones of you OblivionDuruza and then invade beths forums with my army of Duruiza Mark 1 Clones and teach them how to make a friendly forum too :)

Muhaaaa...........................................(Evil Stare)...........................(Strokes white cats head).......

That made me laugh ... and smile a bit too.

I'm glad that you appreciated my help, but that's just what I do, part of being a member. I really don't think that it makes me mod worth . I just like making people feel welcome, because the UESP is truly a great Forum.

But I'm happy to invade the Beth Forums :P, I've got an account there and I must say they're good, but nowhere near the UESP.

On the whole time issue, I don't think that any of the current mods are too 'young and inexperience' to do their jobs. Sure being here makes users more aware of how the forum operates, but they're not that new and it's good to have a slightly newer perspective, in moderating, to balance the old and new of the former. That being said, I've got nothing against older users being mods, they do have a wealth of experience.

Interestingly, I think that putting older members in as mods, just because they are older members isnt the best thing. Older members tend to think about how things used to be and how it was when we joined and who the mods were then and blah blah blah. The forums are different now. There is a different set of people and a different mentality, and putting older members in a mod position wouldn't necessarily help. Now that doesn't mean that someone who joined a week ago should necessarily get to be a mod, but you need someone who is much more in touch with these forums, and I believe that for the most part, the older members that are here area tad more removed than those that have only been here a few months.

That being said, on the topic of Skyrim, I haven't poked my head into that forum for a while. I was getting annoyed more by some of our members who have been here for awhile going off on new members. There was less constructive criticism and more "omfg ur such a newb" attitude from what i saw. It's been said plenty of times. Right now, Skyrim is just speculation. But it doesn't help for members to yell because its a duplicate topic.

On the original topic, if I were a mod, I would focus on the Skyrim section, if only because that's where we need the most help. Point users towards the rules, get rid of dupe topics either by locking them or merging them, and keep our frustrated members as calm as I could. Just my thoughts.

Not to name names, but some users have just been posting insults to new users who've come with a grand idea at times.

That needs to stop, in fact on the topic of all older user-newer user tensions, the mods should make all efforts to end them. They need to mediate those situations.

I'd imagine bridging that gap is gonna be an interesting process. There's been enough stuff that's gone on that might make it challenging. I do agree with Duruza that the insults and such need to stop. I'm just saying that reversing those feelings will be hard. Tensions are gonna be there, but they don't need to present.

As an older member, I came back recently because I knew there were issues and wanted to try to help contribute to fixing problems. I'm obviously excited for Skyrim, play Morrowind and Oblivion, but I came back mostly as a favor to a friend to try to help ease the burden if you will.

@Socz. Excellent to hear, most have been really welcoming, but even today I worry because some still don't like me, and won't talk to me so that I can simply ask "why?".

I don't want them to feel pressure because new members like me join.

My point is, I've been playing TES Games for years, I could have joined years ago, but I didn't, does that mean that I should be treated differently, by people who did?

@Scrib, Of-course older users will miss the old UESP and their old friends, but I just hope that new members can become great friends for them too, and vise versa. There are many older users who I really like, especially in the Morrowind Forums .

I'd probably feel like i'd have a real sence of authority and feel important and post a topic titled 'If i were a Moderator' so i can feel special by seeing people respond by stating how much the would love the voluntary job as a Moderator... Hmm i wonder what i'd do if i won the lottery as well? No pun intended, if you catch my drift.

Hmm.

Despite what you may think, there's no evil purpose behind everything people do. It could really be just for fun, or it could be a way of Moderators seeing who wants to Be a Moderator next time we need one.

Good to see that the Skyrim Forum is being looked after, I've noticed kris helping people out there and cutting down on some of the dupe topics.

@Dovahkiin, I don't know if I'm misinterpreting you, but this thread wasn't started because someone felt high and mighty, it was started because Andere is very willing to listen to members and likes to try and include us in the process.

Cool down a little bit, I have to say I have observed some of your actions in the Skyrim Forum, and was not impressed by the way you attacked Avron for trying to moderate, when she removed a flame post, which served no purpose but to flame (I don't condone any of the flaming that occurred in that thread, I'm not siding against you on that issue either, but it has to stop).

Please, try and show the mods a little respect, you seem to have much to contribute, and some good ideas, but please do it nicely. I would love you to be a part of the community, but there are certain ways you have to act.

Getting slightly (?) off topic? This was meant to be a place where you could give expression for your own fantasy about being a moderator - seriously or not. In case you want to discuss Skyrim topics, please start a new thread --- it's an important issue, no doubt about that. But this is NOT the place for that.

Okay, message received. I may start a new topic, and if I do or if one is, I'll edit this post with the link. If anyone wants to continue this discussion, PM me or start a new thread if I haven't already. From now, let the topic of what we non-mods would do as mods continue.

Actually, in light of a couple of comments form other users, I have to say that as a mod, I'd probably spend more time then I should welcoming new members, looking out for users to confirm, and making their stays pleasant, than I would doing things like looking for dupe topics. I probably wouldn't be able to help myself . :P

If I were a Moderator then the admins would insert a banhammer into my skull after about a fortnight.

But it would be the greatest fortnight of UESP history.

On a serious note however, if I were a Moderator,I would know how it hurts I would probably try and get more serious discussions about things happening in the news, find ways of rewarding posters who make good posts, and expand the Roleplays subforum into a General Games forum where only well-thought out games are allowed, with none of that "my island n00bs!!!!" crap.

Also highly agreed on bridging the older-newer member gap. Don't let my join date fool you, I've been around for about six years now, with another account. I've seen a lot of things happen to this site, but I don't really make distinctions between members just because of the join date. I'm equally likely to go "Bear was a pretty cool dude" as to say "Duruza is a pretty cool dude." (Using Duruza as example because he's the last to have posted here and also, he is a pretty cool dude from what I've seen.)

And naturally, I would ban DerangedPickle just because I could and it would be funny.

If a Moderator has to seek help from the forum user's then i think that make's him/her unsuitable for the job, they should be able to work from thier own initiative and make decision's they think comply with the forum rule's, guide's etc, but then again, the excuse of 'I was more interested in what the forum user's want and their idea's' is a arguable one against my opinion stated. Just my two cent's on the whole 'If i were a Moderator' idea.

I'm sorry, but what? He's not asking help, he's asking opinions. A Moderator must listen to the views of the members, because without the members we would have no forum. Any Moderator who acts solely from what they think is right will make far more mistakes then the one who listens to the members opinions. But even if they were asking for help, so what? Being a Moderator is not easy. From experience, I can tell you that it's tedious, annoying and comes with a large helping of being shouted at. They're only human, and humans need help sometimes. But regardless, in my opinion, a Moderator should be concerned with what the members want, because if they are not then they are only a Moderator, and have ceased to be a member.

There's nearly a dozen Moderator's, mostly picked from the forum member's, so their more then adequate in making decision's based on the forum and considering the member's. I really don't see the point in this thread, but that's just me, i see the harsh side of humanity rather than the good, ah well.

First of, I'd remove the censor on penis. It's a stupid thing to censor since...well...you know, it's the MEDICAL term for male doodeliwhootdoot.
I'd also go through the list of censored words and check if some of them are really necessary to have. You can't have penis but dick isn't censored?

Second of, I'd make sure I act un-biased and don't go lighter on a member if it's a friend or a popular guy or heavier if it's an annoying git.

I'm not sure what you mean by the censor part of the post :? but the second point you raise is a good one.

Moderating really requires you to separate the user you from the Moderator you. (Why using colours is helpful for me, because there are different facets of every person)
