I don't really have a preference either way, but I wouldn't be opposed to a change of generic smilies. The newer ones actually look better than I would have expected with this forum layout and design.

As far as new smilies, for the purposes of a competition, they would naturally have to be original, just like every other competition.

I've been trying to make my own smilies, and the problem is that when you resize pictures to the forum smiley size, they're way too small. Ex: This.

That's why you don't scale down, you work natively at the small scale, manipulating individual pixels.

I may be good with Photoshop, but I have no idea how to work with Gifs.
Besides, I like the coloring and the smoothness of the balloonheads. They're so much less of a harsh yellow than these ones.

I'm wondering if we should have people do sets, or have individual votes for races. I suppose sets would be easier and let them all look uniform.

Sets as in different smileys using the same basic face, like the yellow faces we have now? That would make it a little harder if it's a requirement, but possible for the competition.

No, like a new smiley from each person for each race. We need one for each of the nine races, right?

Or should we only add one race at a time with multiple expressions?

I dunno. Would you guys be interested in creating one for each race or multiples of the same race, or just one for one race?

Personally, I'm sitting with my image editor making faces for the beast and elf races as we speak. I guess it's up to the competitors, if they make a whole set, good for them, if they make a bunch for the different races, even better for them.

Sets would be better, but it might be asking a bit much for people to do in a month. I'm not sure. Maybe if it were over a longer period of time it might be easier to do?

Alternatively, people could work together to produce sets. In that way, they'd still be fairly uniform and we've had CotMs like that in the past.

I oppose to this. I think the generic and traditional smilies are common and well known, and should be preserved, simply for the cause that they are well known. To repeat myself, you don't steal stuff BUT you make your own.

Make an effort to create some TES smilies. Something personal and game related, instead of just recoloring them. It will be much more of a reward to everyone. I'm too lazy and busy to do it, but I'm never too much of those to give good advice... heh. And you all know this:

Most of the existing smileys are 15x15 (except the heart smiley). I don't see a problem with them being a little bigger.

Seeing as the :heart:

is 15x25, I think a set max of 25x25 would be an agreeable requirement for the CotM
Nords should be fun to make...if I go crazy, I might even make a sload one...
