Just so everyone knows, I didn't forget about this. I'm actually creating most of the smileys so that we can have a uniform and unique composition here on the forum. (And because searching for weeks for additional smiley packs proved to be insane.) If anyone wants to participate they are more than welcome - it could be a group effort!

I might post some ideas and prototypes here and you can all tell me what you like or not. A test of this in the General Discussion thread prompted some feedback on a Dunmer smiley -

- or what I hope looks like a Dunmer smiley... More coming soon!

I may, or may not attempt this. What size (pixel-wise) are the standard smilies?

All I did was copy one right off the forum into Photoshop and craft things over it. Pretty fun!

The Dunmer is 23*25, while the standard ones are 15*15, though.

I never realized how hard it is to make something so tiny be visible, no wonder smileys are normal black on yellow Image, Avron's looks more elf-like and is easy to see the features, maybe I need a brighter color..

Yes, I say simplicity is best. At that small size, the more you add, the harder it gets to figure things out! Only thing art class ever taught me: less is more.

Chaos, that smilie reminds me of The Count from Sesame Street :P (which is not a bad thing, more like an awesome thing)

Yeah, dark colors do not go well with smilies. Makes it hard to see the eyes and mouth.

That's really good ZeRoc, but it looks like you're having the same problem as me with the dark colors making it hard to make out features, maybe use a lighter green w/o going too far into pastel territory
I don't envy you Avron, I have no clue how you'll make the Bretons and Imperials look different Image

I have found that using close to the neon colors work best with making smilies that allow you to see the intent of the expression.

@ Chaos: Nice Fox Khajiit. Is it sticking out it's tounge? If so, I would suggest having the tounge drop down lower, as it is hard to tell. The nose is a nice touch, but covers up the mouth/tounge a bit.

I can add it to non-animation .gif's but the animating confuses my editor :(

1 looks the best, but is to dark to make out expression.
2 or 3 would work, but to light hides the tusk/teeth

Maybe go with 3, but make the tusk/teeth a bit more wider/taller.

Am I correct in assuming that there will be a group of Race Smilies, with various smiles frowns, winks, tounges... ect...?

I like the 1 the best, but it might be too dark, so 2 gets my vote.

Magic! Actually, I'm just focusing on making them as close to the standard smileys for now as possible, and each is based off the wiki lore page image. So...you'll see!

And I've started a movement! Huzzah! You guys make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Image

Yeah, it's supposed to be a tongue, I added the line on it because it looked more like an open mouth without it Image Image

Yup, the line does look better for ttttttbbbbth (tounge out) Image

This one would look good for a "Big Smile" with white instead of red: Image

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I am almost thinking that the standard 15x15 is to small for Race Smilies. Might want to start with a 25x25 for the circle, which would make racial identifies like ears and such a bit bigger too. ...but otherwise, they can tend to look like colord blobs, without the larger size to allow for the detail for expression.

I'll be grouchy old dude again, as I really don't care about the smilies... but if it is going to be done, might as well have them look nice.

I like the 1 the best, but it might be too dark, so 2 gets my vote.

This mirrors my sentiment fairly accurately. The first two are the two I prefer.

Additionally, of the two Khajiit Chaos posted, the one without the line would be my favourite of the two, not that it counts for much.

Edit: mistake rectified Image
