I am glad that the first pack I opened during the draft contained Exploration, I knew what I had to do. And after pulling that the guy besides me had let a Terastodon go, because he wanted a Squirrel's Nest for his cube, so my deck kinda just built itself after that...

Have been consistently making top 8 at my local FNM, and the past two weeks have made top 4, last week placing second and this past Friday taking third. I really like that this Standard isn't dominated by one or two decks (good riddance to monoblack devotion) but just about anything can be viable.

Standard is always dominated by some archetype decks... Modern is even worse... I don't really want to spend my money on either kind of deck, limited and EDH is my game. I finished 24/83 at FRF pre-release, with a massive hang over, haha, next time I'll do better though and avoid the hang over.
Anyway, hope you are still going strong at the FNMs, MM! See you at the worlds someday :P ... oh yeah, Denmark won that! They didn't do very good in Pro Tour FRF though.

I scrubbed out at prerelease. It seemed like everyone I went up against just had amazing pulls. I've never pulled anything worthwhile at a prerelease, unfortunately.

Now that Birthing Pod is banned in Modern, things are starting to shake up a little. Unfortunately it seems they're shaking to a place where burn is a winning strategy.

Standard is extremely interesting right now, though. Several new decks are emerging, but even then there's still not one deck to rule them all.

I pulled a Hooded Hydra and a promo Yasova at the last pre-release, very good in limited!

Yeah, totally. It seems like everybody is playing burn in Modern at my local game store. No one plays Abzan, poor Rhino Pod deck getting the boot :(

It is! I love to follow Standard, I just don't wanna trade cards that lose so much value when they rotate out.

DtK looks crazy! Have you seen the spoilers?! I am blown away, can't wait for the pre-release!

So, uh, I learned how to play Magic last night!

And a friend of mine gave me a 60 cards and built me a starter's Red/White deck. Which was cool of him. I feel like an RPG protagonist.

I am mildly tempted to play a game of cards with you Union >_> advent to the fact I very very rarely play thus very rarely have anybody of fair difficulty

Speaking of.. I miss using my Mer deck, lil [&@%!] made a [&@%!] army in minutes... At which point is it sad to have more active monsters than there are cards in your deck?

The Battle for Zendikar release is tomorrow. I'm going to get a fat pack - this'll be my first one not counting the 2014 starter pack. I'm also planning on participating in a sealed tournament on Saturday, which'll also be my first one. I'm looking forward to it!
My friends said that this is a good one to get the fat pack for, because the land cards are full-art, like so, and this is the first one since Zendikar's release in 2009. They said that if it's like Zendikar, after a few years, an unopened pack of lands will be worth around $150. I'm actually tempted to get two, like my friend is: one to keep for myself, and one to hold onto the lands until they're worth more.

I also purchased my first Commander deck, the pre-built Guided by Nature, a few months ago. I love this deck's playstyle: lots of mana-ramping and getting creatures out there.

I got the blue Commander deck with Teferi. That deck does awful, awful things to people.

Plus, Frost Titan is literally my favorite card in the game.

Fat packs are a limited run product, so once they're sold out they're gone, too. I'm not sure the lands will appreciate in value that much, but they definitely look pretty!

I went to two prereleases last weekend, took third in the first and fourth in the two headed Giant one.

Feels like a pretty fun set. Rally and Converge are my favorite mechanics so far.

Gosh, those fat packs are selling like crazy. The one store I stopped at during lunch won't get them in stock to begin with until next week. The comic store where I'm going to have the tournament tomorrow is sold out. They recommended Target, and they were sold out. I went to Walmart and got the last copy there. Then I went to the Walmart in my town, and there were two or three copies left, so I grabbed one there as well. I'll have to see if my two friends managed to get one today; I might need to buy it for them.

Very nice, Hippie!
My best pull in my fat packs was the Ob Nixilis Reignited planeswalker.

I placed 13 out of 15 in the sealed tournament last weekend, with a 1 win/2 loss/1 draw record. If the draw had been a win, I'd have placed more like 8th, and it would have been a win on my next turn. Unfortunately the time had run out, and so the rule was that we'd play 5 more turns and unless either of us won during that, it would be a draw. At the end of the fifth turn, my opponent had no creatures out, and 3 health, and if I'd been able to just have one more turn I'd have swung at her and won. I had a nice green/red deck centered around Omnath and Landfall abilities; its only major weakness was that I had few cards that could counter flying creatures - only had a 1/1 flyer myself, and nothing like Plummet; I could only use one or two "deal x damage to target creature" cards to take care of them.
But, yeah, anyway, it was fun for my first tournament. :)

I used my sealed Origins deck of course, Musicman. It was a sealed PPTQ. I am a limited man, you know ;)
Okay I sold it for $200+ then ;)

Nice pull Alara, I've pulled 3 Dragonmaster Outcast, Foil Dragonmaster Outcast, Gideon, 2x Kiora, Ob + promo Ob, Drana, Foil Greenwarden of Murasa, Void Winnower, Quarantine Field, Sire of Stagnation, numerous tango lands, 2 Expeditions + lots of other neat stuff.

Alarra, friendly advice 1/1 fliers are not your friends. They are quite terrible actually.

I know it's been a while since this topic has been touched on, but I've been really getting back into Magic lately and I figured it wasn't worth just making a new topic when some peeps are still around.

I'm been specifically playing lots of Commander (to the point where it's basically the only format I play) and I am in the process of putting this deck together. Behold my Grixis EDH deck, headed up by Nekusar the Mindrazer: Resting Lich Face.

Thoughts, comments, and recommendations are welcome. Keep in mind this deck is more geared towards a casual playing group and not a high stakes playing community.
