MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries with the MekTek Mek Paks and also their HD patch.
So basically, instead of looking like a game from 2002 it looks like a game from 2004...

Smith and Tinker, please don't fail me.

So I finally Baldur's Gate. I played through the first time on easy, and it was indeed easy. I'd like to play it through again but on extreme, but in order to do so you must beat a mini game called the Gauntlet, which I can't. The lack of potions makes it infuriating, plus the stupid cheating game doesn't help much either. So to overcome my lack of beatability, does any one have a cheat code I can use. Like how to have an unlimited amount of health and rejuvenation potions, or how to become invincible?

Been playing the World Cup game lately, to be honest.

But also downloaded three titles off the Playstation Network: Catan, Lemmings and Final Fantasy IX. Haven't got very far in FF, so can't say much about it, but it seems to be fairly enjoyable. Catan is just awesome, so go try it out. And Lemmings I bought to go on it every now and then when I am bored of other games. Awesome puzzles.

Football Manager 2010 and X2 Football 2010, both for my iPod Touch.

I prefer X2 Football over FIFA 10. FIFA has more options but X2 is more like PES, it has faster, better gameplay and smoother animations.

I bought these games to get in the right World Cup mood of course :D.

You obviously haven't played FIFA in the next-gen consoles.

Nothing but football and snooker for the past 2 days. I think I've truly got over that "I must play games or I will get withdrawal!" attitude.

I'm re-fighting Blaine on Pokémon SoulSilver. I'm owning him, too, despite my massive level disadvantage.

There is no such thing as a level disadvantage in the Johto region.

My team of six ranges from levels 51 to 54. His team of six goes from levels 54 to 62. And I still won, mostly with my Poliwrath and Typhlosion.

I think that's right.. :s

Reading this gave me an idea for a Life on Mars game: a TPS where you take on the role of Gene Hunt in the middle of an armed blag ("You are surrounded by armed [&@%!] !").

Every time he gets hit by gunfire, the bullet strikes one of his four hipflasks. If he bleeds out too much whiskey in the course of the fight he races jogs off to the nearest pub, whereupon you lose the game.

Due to the recent re-death of my 360 i have purchased many ps2 games, non of which i can start. You know the feeling when you get 10 mins into a game and just cant play it for some reason :( .
Oh whats alpha protocol like, its the only game out at the moment which i really like the look of ^^.
I might try and finish off resident evil 4 tonight...

To be honest, it's meh (7/10 as I mention further down). On the technical side: I've never been one to judge a game on its graphics, but textue pop in is a whole other story, and AP has plenty of that (I can't think of a single point in the game where there wasn't some form of texture issue). Also, while it doesn't happen too often, the camera had a tendency to jump around in my game as well, especially when in cover. Finally, enemy AI is, to be honest, moronic at times (I've seen enemies turn around and start firing behind them when I approach with a shotgun in their face), and they seem to have a hard time following any sort of path that deviates from their initial patterns. Along the same thread, boss fights can be stupidly frustrating
Spoiler:
I can drop fully armored spec ops agents with a sigle pistol round to the head, but one mute teenager can withstand grenades, assualt rifle fire, and multiple critical pistol shots!?
simply because of damage output/endurance, but they suffer from the same AI issues, which I consider to be a significant balance issue.

The RPG elements work quite well on the other hand. With numerous skills at your disposal, it really feels like your abilities as a secret agent improve over time, and there is enough variety to appease multiple play styles (stealth can make you invisible to human sentrys for a short time, or allow you to run full out without making a sound, and also includes passive bonuses that reduce sight range, or act as an emergency stealth cloak if you're nearly spotted. Weapon skills boost your multiple aspects of weapon use, such as the ability to score critical hits, carry more ammo into a mission etc. and also provide activated abilities that can really save your hide in a shootout. These are just two examples). The most impressive component is how the story (despite its rather cliched nature) is played out; Think Mass Effect with dynamic dialogue. You have to make your convo choices on the fly during a discussion, so dialogue moves forward at a natural pace (and also gets a feeling of natural conversation, which few games have ever pulled off). Your choices can also have some major impact on the rest of the game; Should you spare your foe in hopes that they'll assist you later on? Or should you execute them and be done with it? These kinds of decisions are everywhere, there are very few parts of the game where the outcome is set in stone, and what's most impressive is that choices actually affect the game later on (Sparing or arresting a some character offers new intel, or even whole new missions later on, while just the tone of voce you use with others can have a similar impact.)

With both of these aspects in mind, I'd give AP a 7/10. As I said earlier, I'm usually not one to knock a game for its technical presentation too harshly, but there's a line even for me. The RPG elements make it a solid game in my opinion, but constant texture pop in and AI problems really hurt the enjoyment factor. If you're an eye-candy person, or one who obsesses over technical components of a game, you'll want to avoid AP. I would also suggest anyone interested rent first, or buy pre-owned and see if you can deal with these issues. There's a surprisingly well crafted RPG under it all, but it takes some dedication to get to.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2 are the games you're thinking of, which were indeed for the original Xbox.

They're fun games if you're especially bored, or have a buddy to team up with.

Very much an arcade style of gameplay.

I believe Sonix was under the impression you meant the origional Baldur's Gate (and Baldeur's Gate II), as opposed to Dark Alliance.
