Good idea Scozzar, this show tends to get a lot of hype. Why didn't I think of creating a thread....

Then again I have never read it and am only going by what others have told me... Oh, and I don't want to know what happens in the comic, keeps it nice and surprising.

One of the benefits of me watching the Lord Of The Rings films before I read the books was that I didn't know any of the plot. Kept everything nice and fresh.

Have you seen the webisodes? They're not that bad actually.

The five minute ones on the AMC website? they where actually very well played, I liked how they told the tragic story of a victim in the zombie apocalypse. Not only that, but it was the story of one of the most memorable zombies to date and one of the first at that. I hope they do more like it when season 2 ends.

Amazing. I watched the entire 1st season one night. I can't wait for season! I've been waiting for a good zombie show.

Just watched the new episode. I like how they haven't wrapped up all the problems so soon, hell they just added a few more in this one. Seems most of the characters are being hit by both emotional and physical problems, which I like because in a lot of shows they tend to focus too much on one character at a time.

Can't wait to see how Shane and his chubby friend deal with their 'big' problem... a week is too long to wait!

Man, that was genius. I keep expecting Otis to get bit... he can't run as much as Shane.

YES. We needed this thread. Best show on TV.

I'll post my entire thoughts later on.

That's the name I was looking for. I thought the guy had got eaten several times when they where running away from the horde of zombies, but he kept appearing out of nowhere. Will be interesting to see if he actually makes it... I kinda have a feeling he does.

--------------------

On a completely unrelated note, I seriously hope they do more to reveal the past of Daryl Dixon. He's probably, to me, the most interesting character as he seems completely different from his racist brother, the only trait they seem to both have is a short temper. What I find strange is that even though he is quick to anger and loves to kill things, he also seems to be one of the nicest characters in the entire group. Saved T-Dog from being eaten, gave Lori a gun for protection and even told the doom and gloom pessimists to chill out and that they would find the girl Sophia.

He also isn't in the comic supposedly so they don't have to be as linear with his character.... last but not least he had the foresight to bring a crossbow with him, which is not only a cool weapon to kill zombies with, but also happens to be the only silent ranged weapon the entire group has.

Oh, why did they have to leave it there?

OK. So I think the thing I like most about this show is the music, or lack thereof. Of course, it has music for the really 'emotional' parts, such as when Lori arrived at the farm in the latest episode. Otherwise there is absolutely no noise other than the silence of the ruined world. And what's the other time that music plays? When the zombies are around. For me, that emphasises that the zombies are a very special and dangerous threat, since they're given special attention whenever they're on screen. The focus of the show is on the characters' reaction to the zombies which is what the music is for, and at the same time that stops the walkers from becoming overplayed and clichéd.

What else. The acting. It never ceases to amaze me how much emotion the actors pack into their faces without saying a word. You could see the desperation in Rick's face as he watched his son lie on that bed and later on how frantic he was when Carl was screaming. The guy playing Otis does a remarkable job of showing his guilt, even though he only verbally expresses that guilt once or twice. Daryl is really hard to read, and that makes sense to me. He's an inversion in that he doesn't portray emotion through anything but what he says, and it's a great contrast to the rest of the group. Glenn's just a good character, I don't need to talk about him.

The characters in general just work. The actor who plays Dale is just the most natural performer I've ever seen. Every scene he's in just works around him, whether he's talking to T-Dog about his fever or being confronted by Andrea about her attempted suicide, all of it just works great because he slots in like he belongs. Daryl, I like because he's a nice guy. You wouldn't think so, given how he's surrounded by drugs and his brother is probably my most hated fictional character, but he is. Andrea should shut up more often. Carol does nothing. Shane, well, we'll see.

I had more to say but my head's hurting and I need to rewatch season 1, so until later.

Is this show worth watching? I ask because I consider watching it.

Definitely worth a look at, and at the end of the day all you gotta do is watch a few episodes and if you don't like it whats the harm? If you do decide to take a look, it may be best to start with season 1 or a fair chunk of it won't make sense.

This program does what most zombie films do not do, and that is make you believe that they are actually in a zombie infested world and aren't all completely mad going on zombie killing rampages every five seconds.

Shane is an entirely new character when compared to the comic. In the comic, he's a mean SOB. in the show, he's a genuinely nice guy that just runs into a lot of bad luck.

I love the fact that they haven't shown much gore yet. It's there, but it's mostly implied. Like the baby seat in the car, it's horrifying, but only because you don't see what happened to the baby.

No problem. I remember the first time I checked it out, I was going to just watch a couple of episodes to see if I liked it... I ended up watching them all in a row.

Dude, did you see the bit where they rip open that zombie and start yanking out the intestines? I must say that baby seat thing was a nice touch, I think it royally messed with T-Dog's head and especially in his condition.

Anyone here seen the 'webisodes'? They're the story of the first zombie that Rick meets, the half-eaten girl that's dragging herself along the ground in the park. The one he goes back to mercy-kill later on. Turns out that
Spoiler:
she voluntarily allowed the zombies to tear apart and eat her lower half so her kids could escape. I found the last bit particularly horrifying because it flashes from a shot of her just after she's been eaten to one a few months later when Rick wakes up, and you realise that she's been lying in the same position for months just rotting. I'm not sure whether I liked it or not, to be honest. Plus it's pretty much the only point in the series so far where you see a human getting eaten, I think.

I saw the webisodes.

@ Dean, I meant you haven't really seen the zombies eat anyone.

@ Thomas: yeah I saw them, should be a post of mine at the top of the first page about what I thought. I don't know if i want to find out what happened to the kids in that one. They did take them to Atlanta supposedly, so I have a feeling something bad happened to them along with the rest of that city.

@ Cam: true, true. Although I do think i remember seeing a few people get chunks of their flesh torn off in the first season, which is pretty disgusting as well. I bet that they will show some really grim moments later on in this season, call it a hunch but the gore is building up from my viewpoint.

Remember the chubby husband that beat his wife? He gets pummeled by Shane, and torn into by the zombies. We don't see the actual feeding, but the results are there in the next episode. There is literally nothing left but bones and skin. I think that was a great way to show the horror without actually showing it.

I've seen the pilot and I must say that it bodes very well for me. I think I'm gonna be a sucker for this show.

Yeah, who needs X-factor when you got... stars in their eyes? I seriously hated that show, dressing up like Elvis just makes you look like a complete berk.

I don't think it's all about the graphic scenes, I think most people actually watch it for the plot and the brilliant acting. However, you will always get people who seem to feed off grim scenes... like the people who go to advance showings of new SAW films.

They need to put a fat zombie in who has a zombie in its stomach so I can make a "I heard you like zombies so I put a zombie in your zombie" joke.
