I initially thought that a more efficient way to siphon power from the Heart of Lorkhan would be simply to eat it rather than use external enchantments. This isn't the first time that hearts have been eaten to gain power in the ES series. For example, to complete Dagon's trial in order to get the Mehrunes Razor in Oblivion, one method was to eat Msirae Faythung's heart. However, then I remembered that the Heart of Lorkhan was mined out of Red Mountain by the Dwemer, so it might be rock hard. Is the Heart of Lorkhan hard like a rock, or squishy and juicy, like Msirae Faythung's heart?

It's an indestructible gem.

Oh, so it is stone texture, rather than organ. It was pretty difficult to tell with Morrowind graphics, so thanks for clearing that up.

"Make sure to eat your enemy's heart, to gain his courage! His rich, tasty courage..."

Well, at the least it seems to be impossible to cut with normal weapons, and it makes a "tone" when it's hit, so I think it's rock solid. Puts a damper on the phrase "You can't get blood from a stone". If you were big enough, I guess you could eat it whole, but that might cause indigestion... or death.

Well, Mannimarco managed to absorb the Mantella to become the God of Worms.

Mannimarco used the soul within though. He didn't literally absorb the gem into his body.

Azura's Star is the only indestructible Soul Gem, so the physical Mantella gem was still destroyed in the process of Mannimarco's apotheosis, correct? Either that, or the Underking found and destroyed it afterwards.

Can't say for certain due to the dragonbreak, but it's probably safe to say it was destroyed.

is it possible that maybe a divine or a aedra can use their power and knowledge to use the heart in a alchemy recipe? i remember reading "cake and the diamond" and the alchemist was able to put diamonds in a cake then eat it without shattering her teeth.

One of the endings was giving it back to Arctus, so he could absorb it and die peacefully. Since all the possible timelines sort-of-but-not-really happened, it's plausible it was simply consumed and extinguished by this.

I have a theory:

Could the Heart of Lorkhan be a soul gem?

Aedra can never be killed forever, and Lorkhan's heart is is filled with his power (kind of)

Also the Red Diamond, which is basically a realy powerful soul gem, is believed to be a fragment of Lorkhan's heart.

So no, it cannot be edible, but if you could find out how, you could probably use it's fragments to enchant your gear
