Courtesy of the official forums and our fellow member FuzzyMage for pointing it out: there has been an announcement on the official Bethesda forums regarding the very soon release of patch 1.2 for Skyrim. This patch applies to all users with an Xbox 360 or a PS3; the patch for us PC players is forthcoming.

See here for the very short and sweet details.

Yeah, thanks, I was wondering when the next patch was coming. PS3 has some framerate problems I'm hoping will be fixed.

There's no changelog posted as of yet, but when there is, I'll put it up here.

I'd asked around, but no one told me there had even been a 1.1 patch. What, not even a few bullet points of vague areas of improvement/fixes? They gave themselves a few months "extra" just to polish the game and yet it seems buggier than what I remember Ob being like on release. My thinking right now is that Skyrim is potentially the best game ever made if the bugs got fixed... all right, I need to wait until the excitement cools down before I make a proposition like that, but it's up there at least.

The reason the PC patch is taking longer, is because Bethesda is having trouble tracking down the problems. Most are compatibility issues they didn't expect, causing the most unusual bugs.

I just hope they fix em all, hate to be stuck with more bugs afterwards.

I was expecting it was taking longer because PCs are not the majority share of the game's platforms. You know how game dev goes, though... fix one bug and two replace it.

Console patches are quick to produce because console hardware is a known fixed design, the same on every unit. PC patches take longer due to having to take account of millions of possible different hardware combinations, due to PC's being highly modular.

This is the reason DirectX was invented, to provide a common driver framework which reduces the number of hardware/driver combinations from the trillions, abstracting them down to just a few common "virtual devices" available to games, 2D video, 3D video, sound, input, etc. Even so, different hardware capabilities (DirectX calls them CAPS, short for CAPabilitieS) still have to be accounted for BY the game, and they run into millions of possible combinations.

Of course, but what bothers me more than glitching AI is the god-awful tessellation. I can't stand seeing rugged, well-defined faces and beautiful stonework from afar, only to walk up to see a blurred mess only a 360 port could achieve. Sadly this is not a game issue per se so needless to say this will be something for our friends the beloved modders.

That said, I will be looking forward to companions being clever enough to be worthy of such a title.

As of the time of this posting, no changelog has been issued.

Edit: PS3 patch appears to have been released only for NON-US users at this point from what I've been able to discover at the Bethesda forums.

ah, i was hoping there would be a changelog, but hopefully it includes a fix to the lag issues for a ps3 save file over 5-6mbs. I hit 7mb on my save recently, havent had too much lag, but im worried about it.

That's great news for the PS3 folk! :D

Wish the Microsoft folk would be as timely with their announcements. *annoyed*

Really hope a bunch of stuff gets squashed.

We get both got an announcement from Bethy, and since the PS3blog isn't an offical Playstation website, Microsoft is at much fault as them. Besides, they're both too focused on MW3 and BF3 to care about us.

I think you should see the sales chart for Skyrim.

Well, it would be pointless releasing a "changelog" for a patch before they've finished the patch, wouldn't it? The changelog is a list of issues fixed BY the patch, and is written after the patch is completed and released at the same time AS the patch. It's always been that way.

Yes. Some companies release a preliminary changelog, but it's an admission that they ACKNOWLEDGE the listed issues AS mistakes they've made and have the INTENTION of fixing them. Cue millions of complaints and loss of customer confidence leading to loss of current/future sales if they miss fixing even ONE admitted mistake. By not releasing a changelog, Bethesda are hedging their bets to avoid admitting to any mistakes, and setting themselves up to deny the existence of any mistakes they don't fix. If it's not in the final changelog, it's not an acknowledged mistake, see? They're in denial, effectively putting buckets over everyone's heads, including their own.

I hope this fixes the Louis Letrush glitch. That and the texture issue when playing from the HDD are really the only problems I've run into, which is pretty amazing.

There are three possible routes that Bethesda can take in their first official Skyrim patch:

1. Repair some of the quick-and-easy-to-fix trivial bugs that don't really affect game-play very much.

2. Repair some of the quest-breaking bugs that may be in the game. Personally, I've only played Skyrim for a few hours and really don't know if such critters exist or not. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has found major unintended roadblocks during game play.

3. A combination of 1 & 2.

I've never forgiven Bethesda for not addressing Oblivion's A-Bomb bug, which was a death sentence to every console gamer out there. I really hope Skyrim doesn't have another game-breaker lurking within its genetics, but, if it does, Bethesda had better step up and correct it, even if it means having to move Heaven and Earth to do so.

The only instance of a storyline-breaking quest bug I've heard of so far was one user in A Cornered Rat, and while I've been so distracted so as to only have finished the College of Winterholds' quests as of yet, I've yet to find any quest bugs at all.

Path-finding, though a complex system, is at least in theory easier to pin down; it's unacceptable to have NPCs standing in doorways, not nudging when pushed, or to have followers unable to move up or down certain slopes. Corpses are too jittery as well. [&@%!] textures aside, these are the only concerns I can think of.

There's an organized list of quests that have been reported as having issues on the Bethesda forums:

This entirely depends on what it is you are patching.

Anyway I really hope they fix the key remapping bugs (PC). I have to quickly re-remap buttons every time I want to pick up a book or unlock a dragon word right now.
