Hey, me and my friend are making a Machinima in Skyrim, i couldnt find a board dedicated to the creation kit so i thought i'd post it here.

The main idea behind it is just us waking up in a forest with no clue what happened the night before, though it turns out we arent in New Zealand anymore but we're actually in a whole new world altogether where lizards can talk (argonians) and people can shoot fire from their hands.

anyways, what i need help with is how to start a scene with, say, a dwemer button for instance.
I've made the scene in a quest how you would usually do it but i have no clue how to make the 'scene' start
so if anyone has any idea, it would be greatly appreciated :)

...i also have cookies

Do you mean a Scene in a quest, or a chain of events?

not quite sure what you mean exactly.
I'm not making a quest, all im doing is having 2 people talk to each other and im gonna film.
i have the scene half made so thats not the problem, all i need is a way to make the scene start by activating a button or something

You can start a scene in a quest. There is a Scene tab when you make a new quest (quests don't necessarily have to have objectives and such, they're just a way to get things done). Attaching a quest stage to a button press would allow you to start the scene when that stage started.

yea i know that i just dont know how to attach the quest stage to a button. do you have to use papyrus? or is there an easier way?

thanks

Edit: ok i think i know where you're coming from now, press the button to advance the quest stage (in this instance, advance to stage 10) so how do i make the scene start when the quest reaches stage 10?
thanks again, i think i've almost got it :)

In the stage script properties set up a scene property for the scene you created, then in the papyrus box just put Start(ScenePropertyName); replacing what's in the parenthesis with the name of the property you set up.

uh... how do you set up a scene property? lol

edit: ok so i think i set the scene property *Scene Property wakingup Auto* thats what i put and it had no problem compiling.
but when i put *wakingup.start()* in the quest stage, it says *variable wakingup is undefined* but isnt that what the first line is for, defining the variable??
im so lost

In the Quest Stages tab, under the Papyrus Fragment textbox is a Properties button. Click it, then click the "Add Property" button. Choose "Scene" from the Type dropdown, give it a name and click OK. Then click on the property that appears in the list and choose your scene from the drop down list to the right.

If the Properties button doesn't do anything, enter: Game.GetPlayer(); in the Papyrus Fragment box and click Compile. It should create the fragment and make the Properties button work. If not, go to a different tab after compiling, then go back to the Quest Stages tab and try again.

But seriously, I think it would be easier to make a machinima in Skyrim using console commands and an animation-mod, like Director's Tools, instead of messing around with quest-scenes in the Creation Kit. The only downside would be that the characters mouths won't move during dialogue.

yea i've thought about doing that and that is the only reason i'm not doing it that way :)

Scenes aren't that hard to set up, really. Just time consuming depending on the length.

yea scenes are really easy to st up, i just needed a way to start the scene on command.
do you know if there is a console code for it?

edit: it's ok i found a console for it and the scene starts :)
thanks for the help. i may need help later though lol but for now, i think i have enough to work off

i was gonna link a picture of a cookie as promised but i cant post url's yet haha

As predicted, i have run into another problem :(

In the scene that I'm making, our characters are supposed to start off asleep and then get woken up
So what i have done is, the first action in the scene puts them to sleep; i set the time/day for them to sleep to any hour of any day, and made them sleep for 10 hours (game time)
Problem is, they both wake up as soon as they finish the animation for getting into bed, but I need at least 5 seconds to record them asleep before they wake up.

dont worry, figured it out
