Announcing the Oblivion Character Planner!

http://ocp.uesp.net

OCP is a browser-based tool that evaluates the potential maximums of any new or existing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion character. I don't have to tell UESPers about "The Leveling Problem" and by using OCP you can solve this issue before killing your first rat. By simulating leveling and then analyzing the results, OCP can give you what no other tool can; a detailed view of your character's entire lifetime allowing you to tweak your choices to maximize your potency.

Thanks to the kind folks at UESP, OCP is now hosted here. It's only fitting that the best Oblivion character planning tool is hosted by the best compendium of Oblivion knowledge!

Note that while OCP is still in beta, it is fully functional. Unfortunately, it only officially supports FireFox right now, but since OCP now has a proper home, browser compatibility is next on my to do list. Other known issues, limitations, and planned improvements are listed in the Release Notes.

Please feel free to check it out and give any feedback here in the forums, on my UESP Wiki talk page, or by emailing to me.

Thanks,
-Foam

I'm not playing Oblivion right now (just got Fallout 3), but the character planner looks great and I'll be using it as soon as I start a new character on Oblivion.

amazing. i was expecting it to be like the one at linklost.com, but this is MUCH BETTER. i love all the information. that is what i look for in my characters, and this will be much easier than opening up the wiki races page and going back and forth with the one at linklost. also, linklost doesnt let you plan anything other than the sewers :P .is there a way to have this stickied somewhere to keep it in easy reach?

Thanks for the kind words, all. :D

Since OCP is kind of a hobby for me atm, I'm still planning on adding some enhancements. Aside from the known issues already listed in OCP's Release Notes, if there is anything missing or anything that could be improved, please lemme know.

the ONLY thing i think that could be improved is that the races > overview might be tidied up a little. i sometimes confuse powers and pictures to the wrong race, but i know better than the fact that a breton has water breathing, so it is purely cosmetic, and not that bad.

Being able to create an account and save your custom created characters would be nice :D.

OCP will never create accounts and whatnot, but I do plan on adding several ways to save, load, and share character configurations.

The Instructions are pretty detailed about what everything in the Planner does. Granted, if you are completely new to Oblivion the underlying meaning of most things won't be apparent, but the Instructions should teach you how to do everything OCP can do.

So if you've read the Instructions and things still aren't clear, please let me know. The more specific your feedback, the better I can address it.

Thanks,
-Foam

It looks good mate. I'll be sure to give a go at it. I think it will be really useful to a lot of people.

Good contribution to the community mate.

Useful tool! Any plan on adding canon races like Golden Saint and Dark Seducer in? (the wiki already has their stats at least)

Or just allow the player to enter a custom race starter stat set, really.

If there is a need for these races or custom races, I can definitely add them. But, short of this request, I had never even heard of using a non-standard race except with a major or total rewrite mod. And mods of that scope may have different rules, so I'm not sure how applicable OCP would be anyway.

So the question is: how often do players create characters with Dark Seducer, Dremora, Golden Saint, or custom races?

I don't know how often it happens, I play a golden saint with canon attributes.

Xivilai seem moderately popular as do Moonshadow Elves (neither have any canonical stats to work with). I more or less suggest it so people can enter their own starting data. Might be the best solution in the long run.

Yep. OCP used to work fine with Firefox 4.x, but I'm now on Firefox 6.0.2 (latest auto-update received today) and there's an "Error parsing/loading the JavaScript scripts".

Mozilla have obviously made some significant changes to JavaScript support, probably increasing "sandbox" security to ban JavaScript commands that can be used to potentially infect a PC with drive-by malware. This can unintentionally cause some JavaScript-based web pages to fail to function correctly even when they're using banned commands for innocent purposes.

We'll just have to wait until OCP is debugged and rewritten for Firefox 5.x and 6.x compatibility (if the author is still around).
