Discussion on TES Travels seems to have almost ended, but does anyone think that we might ever see another. I haven't played them myself, but were the games any good?

Unfortunatley, I never have.
They do look like they could be time consuming, to an extent. I want to play redguard aswell.

Redguard should be pretty sweet. Hard to find though.

Redguard is not a travel? But a computer based spin-off.

As for TES: Travels. I doubt that we will see any future releases. Honestly I think that the generation of PSP, Nokia N-gage, Gameboy Advance and other handhelds are dead.

Can I ask what TES Travel is?

Ah, this old topic .

In case you're not joking:

They were a bunch of mobile games made as a spinoff from the main series, basically like a portable TES Game, hence the names Travels. They only lasted a few years from 2003-2006 and a version of Oblivion for PSP was planned but later canned. Since then, the TES Travels have not reared their heads much.

I played Dawnstar or Stormhold. Possibly both; I can't remember which if it was just one of them. It's easy to try to compare them to the main series but it's not really fair to as they're on a completely different spectrum. They were fun from what I remember (I had files for them but they didn't work with the phone I had at the time, sadly). They were essentially watered-down versions of TES, strictly dungeon-crawling in corridors. Needless to say the classes were limited and there was no customisation; I can't even remember the option to choose a race. In short, for what they were, they were fun.

I never had an N-Gage so I don't know what Shadowkey was like, but from what I've seen of it it was more advanced than the first two, with more weapons and higher resolution textures. Since it was a minority platform that didn't seem to last long, I've never actually read of someone having played it, so I'd be interested in what people have to say about it. As mentioned an Oblivion game for the PSP was at least planned/announced, again strictly a dungeon-crawler. Since we've heard nothing since, it would be safe to assume it's dead in the water, especially now that Oblivion is officially a past game and not the "current" one.

As for the future of Travels: well, with the new handheld generation is on the market (3DS and now Sony Vita), so there is the possibility; however, seeing as the TES series hasn't branched out to the Adventure or Legend spin-offs since the turn of the millennium, and the last Travels not having been released since the mid-2000s, there is no significant likelihood. Indeed although I can't remember where I read it (so this is anecdotal) I seem to recall Pete Hines quietly stating that Beth had no interest in the Wii/DS market, that TES was firmly in the PC/HD console zone.

I would happily buy the new Travels title if there was one, though, unless it was not on mobile.

Redguard is an Adventures title, not Travels.

It's a spambot, ignore it and it'll be reported soon.

I assume so, it was a copy/paste type.

EDIT: That Ganapoes one is still there though.

Considering Bethesda renewed the trademark on 'Redguard', perhaps we'll see a mobile version soon?

Heh, I didn't realise I was still subbed to this thread.

I hadn't heard they'd renewed "Redguard". I expect it's because of TESO, or much less likely TES VI (I don't think it'll be set in Hammerfell). I like the idea of a portable Redguard... an action-adventure TES title would work on handhelds/mobile, and not just from a technical standpoint.

I shudder to think of a possible TES app. The crappy Java applets were bad enough, without having a fully fleshed-out modern mobile game.

I really don't want another travels. I played one (Shadowkey) and I don't want to play another one.

I didn't realise there were so many bitter feelings towards them. I feel TESO will have more potential than more Travels would for a negative impact on the franchise - it's miles more popular now when it was towards the end of the 90s when BS/RG almost bankrupted Beth. Like I said (but I still can't remember from where), Todd and co. don't seem at all interested in the iOS/mobile market. As long as they keep the main series solid (which they've never failed to do, arguably), things aren't likely to go too wrong.

Never played them, but I reckon a TES themed IOS game could have potential. There are plenty of RPGs on the Apple Store, with price tags from $7-$20. If the game was well made, looked good and had all the classic TES things like Argonians, magic, maces, Khajiit and quests, it could be a great game. I doubt it would happen, but i would most likely but it if Bethesda did make an IOS game.

Beth (rather, ZeniMax) would surely outsource an iOS/Android game to a mobile developer. As it's been said many times already, it's highly unlikely, but speculation is what Tamrielites do...

They should port Morrowind to mobile platforms (all of them, not just iOS). Phones today have the specs to run the full game.

That's a scary thought. Skyrim on mobile in 2022, anybody? Scratch that, we'll have complete virtual reality tech by then. The forums will be an actual tavern on Tamriel... I'll stop fantasising now.
