• Morrowind is the next true Elder Scrolls Chapter in the award winning CRPG series following Arena and Daggerfall.
• The game is a 3rd person perspective type game as in Daggerfall. The is a true 3D game, with everything being a 3D model, buildings, npcs, monsters, etc...
• Morrowind will take place (as the title infers) in the country of Morrowind, home of the dark elves. The game will look very different from Daggerfall, as Morrowind is a very different country. The area covered in the game is far smaller than the area of Daggerfall, however that means it will be more detailed. While Daggerfall had around 30,000 cities, Morrowind will only have about 30-50. These cities will be far more detailed than the random ones of Daggerfall. While they will not be as detailed as those in Redguard, they will have a level of uniqueness to them, and contain many unique buildings. They will not be randomly generated, but will have a set layout. Other than cities, there will be many locations such as towns, nomadic settlements, farms, dungeons, and the like. These will also be less abundant, with numbers somewhere between 800 and 1600. However, they too will be far more detailed. The major areas will be connected with a road network, and so the player will no longer have to use fast travel to move around. Fast travel is still being decided upon, it may or may not appear in the game. If you choose to explore the countryside you are in for a treat. The landscape will be very interesting, with several features that set it apart such as a large river through the country that can be crossed with bridges and ferries. If you want to get a good feel for Morrowind, buy Redguard. The world in Morrowind will compare with the world in Redguard, but will be far better. Consider Redguard a sample of that which is yet to come...
• Your character will be similar to the one in Daggerfall. Experience will be gone as in Daggerfall, it will once again operate on the skills system. The more you work, the better you get. Information on classes and races is coming.
• Skills have been cut down to 27 divided into three categories, Weapon, Stealth, and Magic. Your character will have 5 major and 5 minor skills which affect his level (similarily as in Daggerfall).
• Expect a good number of NPCs in Morrowind, that are a lot more intersting to talk to than in Daggerfall. Story based NPCs will also be common, and the story will be far more involving than Daggerfall's. You will WANT to finish this game, the story will really pull you in. You will still be able to create a life aside from the main story, but most likely you'll be pulled into the main quest early on. For you who like to kill, you'll be happy to know that Morrowind might allow you to kill anyone, including NPCs related to the story (this is still in debate). Also, guilds will be more abundant, and quests from then will be far longer, more interesting, and more plentiful.
• Yes, there will be more monsters. And they will be 3d, making them seem a lot more realistic. One of the biggest things involving monsters is the inclusion of a dragon. In Daggerfall, making a fightable dragon would have been silly, since the sprite based graphics would have limited how real it looked. But 3d monsters will let them make a very large, realistic one that you can kill. They already have a model from Redguard, nothing is stopping them from using it.
• While Morrowind will be very cool, it will take a beast of a computer. Lots of high tech stuff is in it, but keep in mind the requirements might seem high now but will probably be par with other games released around the same time. For now, there are no set requirements since the game is too early in production, but it is a guarantee that it will use hardware accelleration, and it will be required to play. All major 3d cards should be supported. It is being designed with T&L 3D video cards in mind.
• Morrowind will be single player only. Bethesda decided, wisely, to concentrate on making an awesome single player game rather just an average multi-player one.
• Vampirism and Lycanthropy will still be in it, however keep in mind this is a different country, things could be different. Morrowind will hopefully be bug free. Bethesda is trying to improve their reputation involving bugs, and so they plan to put Morrowind through extensive testing to smoke out all the errors. No more crashes! They have a full time bug finder especially hired to ensure the game is bug free.
• Character importing will not be an option, as it would be impossible to keep the balance of the game if you started it with a high level character.
• Current release is Q4 2001 at best.
• It will be slightly smaller in scope than Daggerfall, but be richer in character, story and overall depth. There will be more emphasis of character interaction.
• Julian Lefay is unfortunately, not the main programmer for the game and is only involved slightly with the game design.
• The game will include a Construction Set editor. This is the same editor used by Bethesda to make to game so it will allow one to change just about everything. The only thing not included in the editor is a 3D modeler for creating new monsters, NPCs, etc...
• Fast travel will be handled a little differently than in Daggerfall (where you just clicked somewhere and you were there). There wil be various options for fast travel such as riding a gondola, silt rider, or hot air ballon. You will have to find and pay in order to use these forms of transportation.
• Guilds will play a big part of Morrowind. Bethesda is really going all out to make them cool. They have expanded quite a bit from Daggerfall's guilds. As you go up in ranks in a guild, you will be let in on the various other things the guild is involved with, and the guild secrets. There should be more guilds that you can join, too. The guilds and other groups will still usethe faction system like in Daggerfall. The political system in the game will also be very fleshed out.
• Players will be given more of a sense of their status in the world. They will be able to see their attitudes towards others, also. These featues are being added to "enrich the role-playing experience".
• Quests will be more plentiful so you probably won't be seeing the same one 4 times in a row. Ditto for artifacts. Definitely gonna be more artifacts.
• New classes and races will be incorporated (maybe even orcs and dwarves). The construction set will allow easy addition of any new class/race/etc... the player can dream up.
• You may actually be able to see and participate in the holidays. What does this mean? Well, if this is true, you will probably see a celebration happening in the city center. That should be cool.
• Hidden cities may be implemented.
• You might be able to sail between ports on a ship (instead of being immovable like in Daggerfall).
• Apparently there are parts of Daggerfall and Battlespire that hint at the third chapter (Level 5 of Battlespire?).
