The largest province on the main continent of Tamriel also called the Imperial province, Dragon Empire, Starry Heart of Hirn or Seat of Sundered Kings. The province is mostly composed of jungle though many other climates can also be found near the borders of adjacent provinces. In the center of the province is Nibenay Valley composed of grasslands with a vast lake at its center with several small islands, the capitol city of Cyrodiil (or the Imperial City) spread across them connected by bridges and gondolas. Most of Cyrodiil is indeed a river based society surrounded by jungle.

The history of Cyrodiil began by the middle of the Alessian Reformation as it imerged as a discernible Tamrielic power, centered in the sacred Nibenat Valley. Rivers connecting the capital to the ports of Skyrim and Pelltine were profitable with Cyrodiil's main exports of rice and textiles along with its rarer items such as hide armor, moon sugar, and ancestor-silk. The very emmense size of the province, however, made its unification as one a difficult and slow process. Indeed, the province, during the Alessian influence, split into two major factions with the Colovian Estates to the West which still somewhat divides the province today.

The East of Cyrodiil is traditionally regarded as the region's soul, tolerant and administrative. It was in the East rain forests of the Nibenay Valley that the Nibenese, original Cyro-Nordic tribes, seperated from Skyrim. The area was first ruled by the battlemages who originated as elite troops there during the years of Elven harassement during the 1E, and then by the Alessian priesthood. The Doctrines controlled all aspects of the Eastern culture and the various restrictions against meat eating eventually forced the Eastern Cyrodiils to become merchants. This, over a period of time, allowed the Nibenay Valley to become the wealthiest city-state in the region although still ruled by the priesthood..

The West of Cyrodiil is viewed and respected as the iron hand of the province, firm, unwavering and ever-vigilant. The Cyro-Nords that settled in the West prefered bloody conflict over farming or industry and after the conquest of the Nedic ports of the Strident coast they began to become masters of the sea. They annually raided ports as far away as the Iliac Bay and the Cape of the Blue Divide until the superior Yokudan natives arrived around 1E 810. The West survived the Allessian Doctrines much better than the East, both socially and geographically. Hammerfell to the north was protected by the Ra Gada with its intolerance of outsiders. The relationship between the East and West became strained and eventually the West isolated itself, establishing an independant government, the Colovian Estates.

Things persisted in this manner until the Thrassian Plague of 1E 2200 which killed more than half of Tamriel's population. The Colovian king of Anvil, Bendu Olo, led the All Flags Navy in victory against the Sload of the Thras islands who released the plague. The glory of the Cryodilic people then became known across Tamriel and the Colovian Estates of the West began to overshadow the richer East, eventually leading to the War of Righteousness that ended the Allessian rule. The rule of the East was then reverted back to a merchantile and mage rule which was still far too arcane to permit a unification of East and West. Four hundreds from this time, Reman I (a son of the West) rallied the East Valley's army to aid against the Akavir Invasion in 1E 2703. The East and West fought side-by-side in the entire Northern regions and eventually forced the Akaviri's surrender in the Pale Pass of Skyrim. Cyrodiil finally became united as a nation but found itself responsible, not only for its own protection, but the Nothern provinces as well. Because of this Reman in turn asked the defeated Akaviri army to serve as his army in return for their amnesty. Through the years the Akaviri played more and more important roles in Cyrodiil, including the house guard and the chief advisor to the Emperor, the Potentate as well as training the province's military. Reman's dynasty lasted for two hundred years having conquered all of Tamriel except Morrowind. Reman's last heir was assassinated by the Morag Tong during the disastrous Four Score War upon which, control of Tamriel was thrust onto the Akaviri Potentate heralding the beginning of the Common Era.

The empire of Cyrodiil enduring for another 400 years under the rule of the Akaviri and another 400 years in the Interregnum, a period of insurrections, misrules and loss of power. Even though the East and West had become seperated again during this period the remaining remnants of the Cyrodiil empire simply refused to die. A petty king, Cuhlecian from the Colovian Estates came to power and appointed General Talos, an Atmoran, as leader of the Imperial armies. Talos had studied the Voice in Skyrim and could rout armies and shout lesser men off of their feet. A year and a half later, more than half of the Cyrodilic Empire was reclaimed and Cuhlecian decided to move into the Nibenay Valley to capture the Imperial City to proclaim himself emperor. High Rock and Skyrim, greatly opposed to returning to the Cyrodilic Rule, gathered their armies together for an invasion of the west of the Colovian Estates. When the forces met on the field of Sancre Tor and saw the General's use of the thu'um, the Skyrim army joined the General's, sending the Bertons back to High Rock. Only defeated temporarily, the Bretons used some socercy of their own in CE 854 when a nightblade made his was to the Imperial Palace, assassinated the Emperor Cuhlecain and attempted to slay General Talos. Talos survived that night and from then on become Tiber Septim, the new Emperor of Tamriel.

The Cyrodilic Empire in the Third Era has undergone a great restoration with most of the ruined areas of the Imperial City having been resconstructed as well as other roads and cities destroyed during the Interregnum and the East once again stands with the West. The Colovians of modern day Tamriel are much the same as their ancestors, self-sufficient, hearty, and extremely loyal. The West now makes up the good majority of soldiers in the Ruby Ranks. The nobels of the West prefer immaculate uniforms and austere fortress rather than the courtly life as seen in the capital. By great contrast, the modern day East of Cyrodiil relish in grand costumes, bizarre tapestries and ceremony. Being closer to the 'center' of civilization, Easterners are more apt to philosophy which has produced a variety of different cults and religions.
