Senchal Display Tamriel Map Display Item Map
This infamous city is the largest port in Tamriel and can be found on the easternmost tip of Elsweyr's Quin'rawl peninsula. The city is an assortment of bazaars, taverns, merchant quarters and open-air markets ringed on three sides by crowded harbours. Senchal is a favorite spot for pirates and sea captains wishing to sell or buy illegal and blackmarket goods, it being easier to smuggle goods into and out of the Empire by way of the Topal Sea that the well guarded inland highways. Thieves, unfortunately, are commonly found here as are beggars and the Khajiit moon-sugar junkies. The Black Keirgo is Senchal's most squalid and dangerous quarter where sugar-dens and sugar-addicts both line the streets. A good portion of the city is either abandoned or in ruins from the strain of Khanaten Flu in 2E 560. Entire neighbourhoods were razed in an effort to cleanse Senchal of the flu and have yet to be rebuilt.

Sentinel Display Tamriel Map Display Item Map
The second capital city of the province of Hammerfell which controls around a third of the trade on the Iliac Bay. It is without doubt solely a merchant city as it sits on a rocky run of hills and the surrounding barren plains offer no soil for farming. Its main street is one long marketplace which stretches from the harbour to the badlands gate. The Palace is one of the oldest and largest Redguard monument which was quickly constructed during the initial Ra Gada sweep across the province to protect against the Bretons. Sentinel has become an exotic retreat for the nobility of Daggerfall and Wayrest who delight in its food and bizarre morality plays of the Royal Theatre.

Skyrim Display Tamriel Map Display Item Map
Skyrim, also known as the Old Kingdom of the Fatherland, was the first region of Tamriel settled by the humans (Nords). When the first Nords landed in Skyrim from Atmora is uncertain, although from the Song of Return the first family, Ysgramor, landed at Hsaarik Head (extreme northern tip of Skyrim's Broken Cape. The land was first named Mereth after the elves that roamed the region and all of Tamriel at the time. Ysgramor and the settlers built the first city, Saarthal, near the present location of Winterhold. Although the Elves and Nords were peaceful at first, the Elves (reportedly) grew worried that the fast growing Nordic culture would overwhelm their own and attacked Saarthal, burning it to the ground. Ysgramor fled the province but returned with his 500 companions to drive the elves out and restablish the Nordic presence in Skyrim and forming the first human empire. By the reign of King Vrage the Gifted, Skyrim included all of Northern Tamriel, including most of High Rock, much of Nibney Valley, and all of Morrowind. This area shrunk considerably during the Skyrim War of Succession which concluded in 1E 420 and has remained roughly the same size since.

The land of Skyrim is the most rugged on the continent of Tamriel and includes 4 of the 5 highest peaks (only Vvardenfell of Morrowind is higher). Only in the west reaches of the province do the mountains yield ground to the canyons and mesas of the east. Along the sides of river valleys the climate is warm enough for wide variety of crops, wheat in particular, while only snowberry bushes can survive on the mountain sides at the higher altitudes. Originally, towns were mainly built on rocky crags overlooking river valleys for defensive purposes (as can be seen in some the old Holds) but this was deemed unnessecary by the mid 1E and today most towns and cities can be found at the valley floors.

There are nine main holds (or cities) in Skyrim, each with a widely varying society. The Reach, easily mistaken for a typical High Rock city, contains probably more non-Nords than Nords. The Old Holds, Winterhold, Eastmarch, Rift, the Pale are more geographically isolated and Nords there still hold to many of the old ways of their ancestors.
