Bjorn

Bjorn is a system of ice caves north-east of the Altar of Thrond and almost directly east of Hvitkald Peak. [edit]

Bjorn is home to one of the largest concentrations of Fryse Hags and is believed to be the Mother's Den of all Fryse Hags on the island, a sort of headquarters for the dangerous witches of Solstheim.

The ice cavern itself is essentially one long tunnel with a large congregation hall and several very small branch tunnels off the main one. The cavern is shaped like an exclamation mark or like this (excluding the brackets); (-0). There is a neck and a left or right entrance to the main tunnel (that are both connected). Taking the left tunnel will take the player to the higher level of the cavern. The higher level has a storeroom and a few very small branch tunnels (one of which will be mentioned later). After passing the storeroom, the tunnel begins to slope downwards until one enters the main hall (congregation hall). The hall is filled with Fryse Hags including the Den Mother; the leader of all Fryse Hags or at least in this cave. It is strongly advised that all players take out the Fryse Hags one by one as even the most experienced of players (level 50 and over) may be easily overwhelmed by the large numbers that double after the Fryse Hags summon various minions from the outer realms. Either picking off the weaker members of the group one by one or a very strong magic spell that spreads over a large area is the best tactic to avoid becoming a permanent resident.

Easter egg in Bjorn
Easter egg in Bjorn

However, it is the easter egg from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back that makes Bjorn famous. If one takes the tunnel left (towards the storeroom and upper level), to the right is a very small branch tunnel. On the floor is a sword, most of it buried in the snow. Looking up, one is greeted by the skeleton of an unfortunate adventurer who appears to have been captured by the Fryse Hags. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker was imprisoned in this very way but escaped by using telekinesis (the Force) to grab his lightsaber, cut his icy bonds, mutilate his captor and escape. It seems that the adventurer in this case forgot step one and therefore died. Although not very important, the easter egg is fairly amusing for those familiar with Star Wars.

[edit] Notes

The cave contains various items of loot, some major (like exclusive restore health potions) and minor (like cutlery, food, etc) as well as several wolves and a large population of Fryse Hags. Again, unless one has a deathwish, players are strongly advised not to take the Fryse Hags on all at once without magical shielding, counter spells and very strong attacks. A high armor level is also advised to prevent total vulnerability once paralysed.
