Journal bug

I am not seeing any evidence of this bug. I got both the journal and the amulet before I talked to him. I had the proper dialog to turn in the book the first time I talked to him and the dialog for the amulet the second time I talked to him. Is this something that was fixed by the Unofficial Patch?
