Deliver this ruby

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to a Noble.
  2. Head to the town named by the noble.
  3. Beware of some thieves along the way.
  4. Meet the noble's contact and hand over the ruby within the time limit for your reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

A Little Smuggling[edit]

Speak to a Noble, who says:

"If you want work, I am looking for someone to take a special ruby to an acquaintance of mine. The reward will be extremely liberal. Interested?"

Accept[edit]

The noble goes on:

"Excellent. Here's the ruby. Now, (contact's name) needs to have it in (town) in (time limit) days. That ought to be just enough time, I hope. You will recognize (contact's name) -- go to a place called (building) and just look for a (contact's description). Good luck and thank you."

Decline[edit]

The noble answers:

"Really? Too busy, perhaps. That is a shame."

Deliver the Ruby[edit]

Word has gotten out, and others may try to take the ruby from you
The contact is not intimidated by the competition

This quest is yet another delivery for a noble, but this time some thieves may show up to give you a hard time. Travel to the town the noble mentioned and meet your contact there. If you encounter potential jewel thieves, the first one you hit says:

"Hand over da gem. I knows ya got it. Da guild says so. If ya don't, I gots ta kill ya real slow."

Surrender the gem and the nightblade says:

"How purdy. Now scram before I changes my mind."

If you give the thieves the ruby they will leave you alone, but you can no longer successfully complete the quest. If you deliver the gem in time, you will get another ruby from your contact as a reward. If one considers this, it makes the whole quest a pretty senseless endeavor for the noble.

Reward[edit]

Deliver the ruby in time and the Noble's contact will say:

"Ah, good to see you (player's first name). And the ruby too. Excellent. Here's a little trinket for your trouble. I hope you like red. Take care of yourself."

Enemies[edit]

  • 5x One Nightblade every five in-game minutes (25% chance) as soon as the quest starts

Notes[edit]

  • If you keep the ruby you were supposed to deliver, it will remain in your inventory and won't vanish once the quest is over, unlike most quest items.

Additional Dialogue[edit]

After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "(Noble's name) is still in the smuggling business, I hear."
  • "There's been an extraordinary increase in smuggling lately."

If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Someone found a very lovely (gem) around here recently."
  • "I hear (noble's name) is mad as hell at some (player's race) adventurer."

If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Some (contact's description) was just here, waving around some (gem)."
  • "Some jewelry store has reported the theft of a big ruby, I hear."

If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:

  • "Ah, (player's first name). I hope you're keeping that ruby safe, my friend."
  • "Hello again, my young friend."

If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:

  • "I guess you've come to apologize for that botched smuggling affair. Apology not accepted."
  • "You're the (player's race) who couldn't even accomplish a simple delivery, eh? Why would I waste my breath on you?"
