You are loyal member of the Mages Guild are you not (rank)? I have some guild business of the gravest import that I would like you to handle.

Very good. There is a rebel mage that we need eliminated, by the name of (mage). A former pupil of mine, showed some promise but lacked the loyalty to the ancient principles of the guild that are so important to its continued survival. We have learned that he is currently doing some kind of unsanctioned research over in (town), apparently oblivious to his danger. You have (time) to dispose of this menace and report back to me.

[edit] Walkthrough

Go to the town and ask around for People, then the name of the mage. Find where he is staying. He will ask you to join him and rebel against the guild. Refusing causes a fight, and allows you to report completion. If you accept, he will contact you later. Returning to the guild won't get you a reward this way, but the letter will start a quest giving you a magic item.
