There is a wide variety of miscellaneous ingredients in the game. Many of them can be found on fallen enemies or as loot in dungeons. Some others, like gems, which are occasionally the reward for a completed quest, and metals can only be bought at gem stores or at alchemists. Ingredients can either be sold at these stores, or they can be used to make Potions.

There is no rule which ingredient can be found on which enemy. Generally it can be said, the lesser the value of an ingredient the often it can be found. The valueable ones are commonly found on thougher enemies. There are numerous enemies which never or almost never carry ingredients. These are:

  • Animals (Giant Bat, Giant Scorpion, Grizzley Bear, Rat, Sabertooth Tiger, Slaughterfish, Spider)
  • Atronarchs
  • Daedroth
  • Dragonling
  • Elemental Daedra (Fire, Frost)
  • Gargoyle
  • Ghost
  • Lycanthropes (Wereboar, Werewolf)
  • Orcs (Normal, Sergeant, Warlord)
  • Skeleton Warrior
  • Warrior class NPCs
  • Wraith

All other enemies, especially spellcasting NPCs and monsters carry in most cases a wide assortment of ingredients.
