The following is the list of spell type codes for the role-playing game "The Elder Scrolls, Chapter II: Daggerfall". This information was compiled using a third-party editor program called DFSPELL.EXE. I believe its author is Dave Humphrey, founder and administrator of the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages.
[edit] Spell/Effect Type
In DFSpell.exe, there are two fields for a spell's type. The second field may be thought of as the sub-type. When the subtype is -1, there is only one variant of the spell. When there are multiple variants, the subtypes start at 0 and continue upwards from there. The spells with the largest number of variants never exceed 9.
Daggerfall's spells can only have 3 effects, thus there are many spells with 1 effect and the other two possible effects have to be catagorized as type -1 -1 in order not to call an effect.
There are a number of spell effect types that were removed from the game, though their type numbers call the text description for them when viewed in the game. The verified spell effects types range from -1 to 47. Some tests have been done of types beyond 47, but in-game they tend to either call the description for the type 47 spell effects (all of which were removed by patches) or semi-coherent gibberish. The conclusion is that such spells are themselves gibberish to the game and have no utility for players.

The following is the catalogue of spells from Daggerfall. Each spell has an index number in that catalogue saved as the file SPELLS.STD.
Many of these indices are called by another file called MAGIC.DEF that describes the "circinate" spells as offered for sale by certain guilds and required for certain quests. Spells so used are noted with a "*" behind their STD # for each time used.
Also, certain classes have spells when starting the game and these are indicated with a "~" behind their index number.
Note that index number 58 is used twice (for "Holy Touch" and "Holy Word") and these spells are tagged with a "?" behind their STD #.
