Raven Rock Mine is a mine located in the settlement of Raven Rock. The entrance can be found by following the path between Lenth Farm and Alor House, past the ash yam field on your left and the wood chopping block and smelter on your right. There is a woodcutter's axe on top of a barrel by the chopping block. There are plenty of crates, barrels and boxes outside of the mine all marked with the East Empire Company emblem. Both sides of the entrance are lit with braziers on stands. There are also two entrances via Bloodskal Barrow.

 Raven Rock Mine
Upon entering you descend down a ramp from the entrance past several boxes, barrels and crates bearing the mark of the East Empire Company. At the bottom the path turns to the west and enters a habitable area. On your left are two benches with a couple of sacks underneath; between the benches is a copy of History of Raven Rock, Vol. I. Opposite the benches is a table containing two rolls of paper, two gold coins as well as plenty of clutter.
The first time you enter the mine you will overhear an argument between Aphia Velothi and her husband Crescius Caerellius about Crescius exploring the mine and his wife worrying that he will get killed. Speaking with Aphia will give you an insight into their relationship, the history of the mine, her husband and his family. Speaking with Crescius will initiate the quest The Final Descent to explore the mine. If you have spoken to and accepted a quest to recover an ancient Nordic pickaxe from Crescius you can recover that from him while talking to him. This will be of benefit when exploring the mine.
To the left of the table is a barrel and a set of shelves; on the shelves are various items of clothing, two leather helmets, a copy of Lives of the Saints and The Red Year,Vol.I. There is a fish barrel to the left of the shelves and also a flight of wooden steps leading down into the mine. Opposite against the south wall is a flight of wooden steps leading up to a mezzanine level. This is where the mechanisms for raising and lowering buckets to and from the mine below is located. There is a grindstone in the southwest corner, a row of six weapon racks against the west wall and a table with a copy of The Poison Song, Book III in the center. There is an expert-locked East Empire Company strongbox underneath the table. There are various crates, barrels and a sack behind the table and three pickaxes on the floor in front of the weapon racks. Under the stairs are more boxes, crates, barrels and open crates, one of which contains a sample of iron ore. In the northwest corner of the room are three more pickaxes.
Descending the wooden steps leads to an area with more crates, sacks and a table with a pickaxe and leather helmet on it. There is nothing of interest to the left, while to the right is an empty cart and a wooden ramp leading down another level. You will encounter a frostbite spider and a skeever as you descend. You will pass on your left a crate, mead barrel and sack before descending still further via another ramp; be careful here as this area contains flammable gas. To your left are some of the old exhausted ore deposits with a small table between two of them; on the table is an iron ore sample. Follow the path to the left of the table, beside an ascending ramp, to find a skeleton. Now turn to the north and then head east to an area guarded by another frostbite spider; there is nothing of interest in this area, just more exhausted ore veins. Head back to the main shaft and follow the path down a ramp to the north, passing more crates and barrels, until you come to a wooden wall with the path forward to the left of this wall. There is another pickaxe on the right on top of a barrel by the wooden wall. Keep descending via the wooden ramps. At the bottom the path turns to the south and passes through a narrow section, beyond which is another frostbite spider. Past this you eventually come to a blocked-off area with wooden slats barring your way forward.
Attack these with magic or a weapon to remove them and allow you to continue on. You will then come to chamber containing an East Empire Company strongbox, a pickaxe, and a locked gate. The gate can only be unlocked with the Raven Rock mine key that you received from Crescius. Opening the gate allows you to enter the ruins mentioned in the letter received from Crescius at the start of the quest. Through the opening into the ruins you find yourself in catacombs inhabited by draugr. There is shallow water covering the floor. Follow the wall on your left to find a chest on the top level of a pair of alcoves. Opposite is a draugr slumbering in another alcove. There a three other sleeping draugr in the area that can be awoken by any fighting. Continuing through, you will pass a large urn on your left. Just after this is a pressure plate that activates a spike wall trap. The path continues past the spike wall and climbs a flight of stairs, then turns to the south at the top, where you will see a dead draugr on your right. The path turns to the west here and takes you to a chamber with two draugr-occupied thrones, with another draugr roaming in the distance. The draugr on the right doesn't come to life, so take out the one on the left, which will likely alert the draugr in the distance. Once they are taken care of follow the path as it turns to the north, passing a burial urn on your right, then west past a lit brazier on your right with burial urns on either side of it and more dead draugr and burial urns on your right. The path turns to the south and passes two more occupied thrones; only the left one nearest you rises to attack. Between the thrones is an unlit brazier with a potion of ultimate stamina and a potion of waterwalking on it. The path then turns west and climbs a ramp to a doorway, passing another large urn on your right. The doorway opens into a circular chamber with a metal grate covering most of the center of the room. Around the perimeter of the room are thrones occupied by leveled draugr. Turning left as you enter the first draugr on a throne rises, the second doesn't, past some rubble from a cave-in is a chest, the next two draugr rise, next is an unlocked iron door, the next draugr rises, the second past the door doesn't, then there is more rubble which covers the next two thrones completely, then the next draugr rises and the final one doesn't. As you can see this can be quite a tough battle. There are also two draugr lying dead on the grating in the center of the room.
Through the iron door you see two upright sarcophagi on the left with a filled common soul gem between them in a holder on a plinth. The path twists around to the west, up a couple of steps with another throne on your left. The draugr seated on it is dead, and has a hide shield beside it and an ancient Nord helmet at its feet. Against the west wall is a stone table with two dead draugr laid out on top. Also on the table are a random potion and a potion of cure disease. A large urn is to the left of it. To the right is a Stalhrim deposit, which if you have the ancient Nordic pickaxe you can mine. Mining this deposit uncovers another dead draugr.
A second table to the right of the ore vein holds a sample of frost mirriam, a deathbell, a sample of scaly pholiota, a solution of strength, an empty grand soul gem, a bowl of vampire dust and a leveled poison. Against the north wall is a throne occupied by a dead draugr; at its feet is an ancient Nord bow. To the east is an alchemy lab with an ashen grass pod and two bowls of netch jelly on top. There are sets of shelves on both sides of the lab; the one on the left holds a burial urn, a sprig of dragon's tongue, a sample of scathecraw, a bowl of frost salts, a sample of emperor parasol moss, a luna moth wing and a salt pile. The one on the right holds a burial urn, a sample of ash creep cluster, another luna moth wing, some fire salts, a boar tusk, some spawn ash, a bowl of void salts and a potion of waterwalking.
The path continues to the north, climbing to a plateau where two spellcaster traps await, one on either side of the path, both of which shoot Sparks at you and both have filled petty soul gem as the power source. The path immediately descends again down a flight of stairs, then turns east and ends at a pair of unlocked wooden doors. The floor is covered with shallow water.
Through the doors is a multi-level room with shallow water covering the floor, a raised path on the right, and a wooden walkway above running north-south with a patrolling draugr wandering along it. You can see a raised section connecting the walkway, while at the far end of the room you can see a waterfall. Also at the top of the room you can see a second walkway, this one of stone with caging around it. Entering this room and starting to fight will alert a total of five leveled draugr to converge and attack you. At the far end behind the waterfall is an apprentice-locked door to Bloodskal Barrow. Following the raised path seen previously leads to a wooden ramp up to the raised areas. You climb to the area that was on your right when entering; it has several upright sarcophagi, all but two of which have been opened. On your right in the south wall is a gated doorway. At the far end of the room is a lit fireplace. To the left of this is the wooden walkway connecting to the other side. Once you've crossed over you will find an arcane enchanter with an expert-locked chest underneath. There is a potion of waterwalking and a leveled weapon on the floor in front of them. At the end is a throne and sideboard and on your left a plinth with a handle on top, this opens the gated area opposite.
Backtracking to the previously gated doorway leads you down a path heading south, which at the end splits left and right. The left fork leads to a room with a plinth holding an Ice Spike spell tome surrounded by lit candles, while the right fork takes you to a wooden spiral ramp leading up. Before climbing go around underneath the ramp to find an adept-locked chest, an urn and a burial urn. At the top of the ramp is a long bow and quiver of iron arrows on the ground, while in the southwest corner of the room is a stone bowl you can jump to that has a small coin purse behind it. To the east is a wooden wall section which shields you from a spellcaster trap that fires Lightning Bolt spells at you, powered by a filled lesser soul gem. On your right is a plinth holding a scroll of Fireball. There is a wooden walkway over the room that contained the Ice Spike tome which bypasses the spellcaster trap. Just passed the trap there is a bookcase on your right that has a bowl of frost salts and a sample of canis root. To the left of the bookcase is a large urn. There is a door to the west into the next corridor. This leads to the caged walkway heading north seen from the bottom of the room. Once you cross you enter a corridor with several upright sarcophagi on either side and pressure plates on the floor in front of you that activate dart traps that fire from behind you on either side of the door. There are stairs in front heading up to three lit braziers set before an unlocked wooden door. The second sarcophagus on the left has fallen over revealing a tunnel heading west.
Through the wooden door is an adept-locked chest. Following the tunnel to the west, it twists and turns until finally you come out into a large cavern high up one of the walls. Two waterfalls drop straight down from the ceiling high above, then flow together and drain out the lower end of the chamber. A set of wide steps runs uphill between the waterfalls and end at a large, strange door. In front of the door you will find the remains of Gratian Caerellius lying upon a bed roll. He still carries his journal, which explains what happened to him and his assistant Millius, and a unique two-handed greatsword called the Bloodskal Blade. His journal also explains what he has found out about the blade and his thoughts on how it can be used to open the strange door. Next to Gratian is a satchel and an elixir of vigor. If you explore the rest of the cavern, you will find several dead draugr, as well as an unlocked chest at the lower end of the cavern where the stream exits. Hanging in front of the door are several small cages; two contain skeletons and one holds a draugr, all dead, which can be looted for valuables.
The door is opened by equipping the Bloodskal Blade, then performing a power attack in front of each of the red lines in the door that roughly match their orientation, either vertical or horizontal. Each time you perform a swing correctly, the door will slowly rearrange itself and extinguish that particular line. Once you have completed all the required swings correctly the door will open into a long corridor filled with seven sets of three swinging blades in a row. At the far end is a lever to stop them that also raises a gate in front of you.
This opens the way into a huge cavern with a balcony on your left, a raised level that you are on the same level as, and water below you. At the end of the level you are on is a chest. On the other side of the balcony is another gated doorway with a lever to the right. Approaching the chest, which contains very little, will cause a dragon priest named Zahkriisos to rise from the water in front of you and start attacking you with powerful shock magic. Once you have destroyed him you can take his mask, which grants its wearer shock resistance of 50% and a boost to shock damage of 25%. At the far end of the cavern is a word wall that contains a word of the Dragon Aspect shout. Under the water you will find four Nordic barnacle clusters and a cluster of slaughterfish eggs.
Once Zahkriisos is defeated the gate will rise on the other side of the balcony. In front of you is a plinth holding a book called Black Book: The Winds of Change. Taking it will transport you to Apocrypha; see the relevant pages for details. To the right is an arcane enchanter and to the left of this is a bookcase containing leveled potions of magicka and stamina, a steel horned helmet, a pair of leveled boots, a cup and bowl; sitting in the bowl is a petty soul gem, thirteen gold coins, a garnet and an amethyst. On the left is a sideboard with two burial urns on top. To the right of this is an unlocked boss-level chest. In the center of the room is a waterfall flowing into a grate in the floor and around this is a wooden spiral ramp leading up to an unlocked iron door which will take you to Bloodskal Barrow. See the relevant page for further details.
