NDA?[edit]

Is this game not under an NDA?
-- Kinetically-Interlinked Nirnian Multi-User NthGen Exoform (talk) 05:13, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

It is, but the information stored here is all information already released publicly by Bethesda or by people Bethesda have allowed to show information to the public. Any information not yet released to the public (such as story/lore, unseen cards, types of gameplay, etc) should NOT be mentioned anywhere on this site whatsoever until the NDA is lifted. --Rezalon (talk) 11:24, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
So it's basically closed to editing?
-- Kinetically-Interlinked Nirnian Multi-User NthGen Exoform (talk) 11:33, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
No, it can be edited. The problem only arises if you want to add information from the closed beta or any leaked beta footage that you may have come across. If you're in the beta (which, by the way, you shouldn't disclose) and are having trouble distinguishing between public knowledge and information under NDA, then you should err on the side of caution and refrain from editing. —Legoless (talk) 11:41, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
FWIW the NDA has been lifted as of 7/27 as noted on the main page and at the Bethesda website. People are free to stream, discuss, blog, share content and images from the game. <> 71.51.137.73 01:03, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Extracting images/etc[edit]

So, we've got one method now to extract images from the game. It's rather slow and inefficient, but it's something at least.

  • Download this Unity Assets Bundle Extractor tool. I did 2.0 with the 2.0b bugfix (download 2.0 first, then copy the bugfix .exe into the original version's folder.)
  • Open the tool, go File>Open, navigate to Legends' data folder (for me it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda.net Launcher\games\TESL\The Elder Scrolls Legends_Data), and choose one of the files. It will display all of the assets in a long list.
  • Choose which asset you want to extract. So far, the only type I've seen that work are Texture2D, TextAsset, and AudioClip. Click on it, click "Plugins" on the right, and it'll give options such as "Export to .png". This'll let you save it as an image wherever you want. You can also select multiple at once with shift or ctrl and once you choose what type you want to extract it as, it'll have you select a folder to extract them all to and name them automatically with the asset name, so that you don't have to do them one by one.

At least it's something to get nice clean images for the wiki! ~ Alarra (talk) 07:46, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

As of the Fall of the Dark Brotherhood update, you need a new version of the extractor and it's a slightly different process to get the files.
  • Download the newest version of the extractor linked above (2.1 with 2.1d bugfix worked for me).
  • Open the tool, go to File>Open, and navigate to the The Elder Scrolls Legends_Data folder as described above, then StreamingAssets\en_US. The files with the card art and so forth are the ones named with the pattern en_US_DependencyMain_XX_CR1_X.unity3d.
  • It will say that the bundle is compressed and ask if you want to unpack it. Say yes, choose a name, and save the file (no extension required).
  • The dropdown will populate with the bundle you just saved. Click "Export", choose a name for the asset file you're saving, and save it (again, no extension required, but I like to add "assets" in the name so that I know which is which).
  • Go to File>Open, choose your new asset file, and that'll open the window listing all the assets as before, and then you can use the "plugins" button to extract the asset itself like before.

Heroes of Skyrim puts the files in a different spot: this time they're at C:\Users\YourName\AppData\LocalLow\Dire Wolf Digital\The Elder Scrolls Legends\bundleCache\ and there are DependencyMain files specifically for Skyrim. ~ Alarra (talkcontribs) 13:10, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Clockwork City card arts are at the same place as Heroes of Skyrim. Unity files starting with CRDL are audio files, but non-voice sound files are for steam users at C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Elder Scrolls Legends\The Elder Scrolls Legends_Data and then the resource.assets. --Ilaro (talk) 18:29, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Typo[edit]

"Fall" in the lead section should be "fall"; names of seasons are not capitalized (see Chicago Manual of Style, Oxford Style Manual, or any other English usage guide). — Darklocq  ¢ 16:27, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Fixed. —Legoless (talk) 19:06, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Card Sets[edit]

As the Card Sets are actually one of the most important pages in the namespace, wouldn't it be a good idea to move them to the mainpage for better accessibility? --Ilaro (talk) 10:15, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

New Legends client and their card images[edit]

With the new client, all card images will be different. Do we want to re upload everything straight over the old images?

Pro
  • We can tag them and easily track them with a category to see which images still needs to be changed.
  • We don't have to rename everything.
  • Legends Card Data will keep working without problem.
Con
  • We will lose the old images (although they are still visible in the image history). This is in my opinion actually quite a big problem.

Any thoughts? --Ilaro (talk) 22:08, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

I suppose the alternative would be having the bot rename everything? Which,
Pro
Con
  • Card pop-ups aren't useful without a card image
Honestly I'm more in favor of rename-and-replace than uploading over the current images. I think the old designs are worth archiving. --FioFioFio (talk) 23:04, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't see any reason to upload over the old images. We will still want to display them in the gallery on individual card pages, as we currently do with older card images. Seems like our options are either (1) to rename all the current card images and use Category:Legends Pages Needing Images to replace them all, or (2) to use new names for the new card images and add them to the pages manually as they're uploaded. —Legoless (talk) 23:34, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Ilaro was suggesting (1) in #wiki_templates on Discord. That would be fairly easy for the bot to do. (2) wouldn't require any bot intervention at all unless you want them all added to a category for easier tracking of which images have been re-uploaded. It would likely be a bit more work for humans, though. Re-uploading is something we should probably avoid, if we can, until I've got HoodBot more functional. The old bot is a bit buggy when it comes to uploading, as I recall. (It's not my code, so I have no idea what the problem even is.) Robin Hood  (talk) 16:01, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
I tried to go for the option with the least amount of human intervention, because each manual task has to be repeated more than 1000 times. --Ilaro (talk) 16:06, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Due to some template coding, the Category:Legends Pages Needing Images is not working at the moment for option (1), but that will be fixed shortly. Option (2) is not feasible, because we then also need to change quite some templates or possibly other unexpected links to work with the new image names and we might have to manually update Legends Card Data. So option (1) is set in motion. --Ilaro (talk) 16:30, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
I hadn't considered the templating issues new file names would present, that's a good point. —Legoless (talk) 17:06, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Extracting game files[edit]

Forget everything that's said in the previous topic about extracting files. The new client has a completely new (and better) ordering of its files, so it will be much easier to find the things you want. Important: Unity Assets Bundle Extractor (UABE) v2.1 will not work anymore as it is incompatible with Unity 2017.1. You could download the beta with v2.2, but I'd recommend AssetStudio (thanks SzotyMAG!). It can extract many bundles at once, can recognize sprites, meshes, Texture2D, audio files, etc.

  • After start up of AssetStudio, you just click on File --> Load File and search for SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Elder Scrolls Legends\The Elder Scrolls Legends_Data (if you use steam.
  • There are several noteworthy files to look at here: just select all assets files (or just all non-folders) and load them, AssetStudio will load everything at once and ignores what it doesn't recognize.
  • Click on "Asset List" and there is a whole list of all extracted files with a preview on the right side.
  • Right clicking on a file will give you the option to find the original asset file, and "Export" will let you save all or the selected files to your PC.

You can then just continue with loading new files. Almost everything else of note is located in the "StreamingAssets" folder. "appbase" and "common000" have some overlapping assets with the resource.assets (but also many new ones), and "contentpack000" is the location of card arts and audio files. Just play around a bit, but you can probably find almost everything quite easily as it is neatly contained in these couple of folders. Good luck! --Ilaro (talk) 21:03, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
