Lycanthropy[edit]

I'm curious if Lycanthropy is possible in anything to do with Oblivion?--125.238.72.32 13:02, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean? It's not possible to turn into a werewolf in Oblivion, nor do they make an appearance. --Timenn-<talk> 13:00, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Does that include the DLC/Plug-ins?--125.238.72.109 14:57, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
There may be a mod out there for werewolves, but none of the official DLC or plug-ins include them. Dlarsh(T,C) 15:07, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Moved Content[edit]

Once a creature has contracted lycanthropy, they will have disturbing dreams (sometimes of the daedra lord Hircine) for the next three days. If the disease is not cured within those three days then said race will become a lycanthrope. A lycanthrope has enhanced physical abilities such as heightened strength and speed. Their claws are sharp enough to tear through metal and can become stronger and sharper through Hircine (if he is pleased). A lycanthrope will transform either nightly or monthly and during their transformation they have to kill and feed at at that time otherwise their health will diminish.
Types of Lycanthropy
Werewolves are humanoids that have great strength, speed and endurance. As strong as they are individually, they become lethal in packs, so some form of crowd control is recommended (Paralyze or Calm Humanoid). Silver weapons are extra effective as they do double physical damage and fire-based effects are less likely to be resisted. During Hircine's Hunt, you'll fight many packs of very strong werewolves, unless you are one yourself. The Werewolf is one of the most common forms of lycanthropy and can be found all over tamriel.
As with all lycanthropes, a werewolf has to kill and feed once a day.
A wereboar is a type of lycanthrope who has been infected with lycanthropy from another wereboar. They can attack with their arms and teeth and require a silver weapon or better to be able to damage it. They are found only in High Rock. The player can become one if infected by another wereboar during combat. They only appear in 'The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall', along with werewolves. A person transforms into a wereboar every full moon and must quench their thirst for blood by killing, otherwise they'll suffer a massive reduction in hitpoints. During this phase the player cannot equip anything or pick anything up, and NPC's refuse to talk to you.

I've removed this recently added section from the page. The first paragraph details almost exclusively with the Bloodmoon Prophecy. The following two are from a mixed second-person/third-person perspective (the former of which doesn't belong in lorespace), and mostly deals with gameplay elements. While I agree that the page is quite lacking (that table doesn't do the werecreatures justice), I don't see how this removed content could help improve the situation. --Legoless 16:33, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

yeah i thought it was lacking so i put it there, it was just a quick add so it might not be in lore form, though you could simply have edited it instead to fit with lorespace plus any information that is factual and tells more about the creatures is beneficial so while its up to you i would have recommended just editing it to the right form. well if there are werewolves in skyrim (there is no comment on that atm)then i have a feeling this page will not be short for long and will have some more decent info. 86.186.211.104 19:37, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Weredaedroth[edit]

I looked through all versions of 16 Accords of Madness, v. VI and none mention that name, as far as text suggests it is just a Daedroth with lycanthropy. This just misguide readers into thinking there is that sort of type of lycanthrope, while it is not, nor ever was. I would delete that alone, but I guess it's worth to state it here and not have that edit treated as damaging for the article, and thus removed. Furthermore it is needed to delete every mention of that anywhere there is an instance. ITakNieZnasz (talk) 14:09, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Since this is a Lore article, and the weredaedroth is mentioned in a piece of the Lore (the book), it seems worth mentioning here. The article does note that it only exists as a mention in the book, so I'd give readers enough credit to not be confused by that. --Xyzzy Talk 20:14, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
The thing is, that it is not mentioned at all, Weredaedroth is some custom name, one user made when writing an article. I see that I may have been unclear about it. Sorry for that. If there is some lore to seek out of that, it is that Daedroth cursed with lycanthropy is fiercer than normal lycanthrope, suggesting that race may have influence over power of particular lycanthrope. But making it into another type of beast, with some DIY name, is rather farfetched. ITakNieZnasz (talk) 20:54, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Ah. I see what you're saying. It is a little bit of a stretch to designate Hircine's one-off lycanthropic Daedroth as a "weredaedroth", but only a little bit, since the naming convention for lycanthropes is very consistent. I'd still be inclined to leave it as-is in the article, but let's see if we get any more editors to chime in and get a consensus. --Xyzzy Talk 23:17, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
"Daedroth with lycanthropy" seems like a bit of a mouthful, but I do see the argument that readers might be led to believe that it is a man-daedroth rather than a daedroth-lycan. —Legoless (talk) 00:26, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
"Weredaedroth" is definitely wrong, and since we do not know what sort of were-creature it is (the only other mention in the book is "were-thing"), I don't think there is anything to include on this page, other than the mention of such a lycanthrope being more powerful than others. --Enodoc (talk) 10:26, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

() I agree with Enodoc; there really isn't enough information about the "Weredaedroth" for it to be relevant to this page—especially considering that the 16 Accords of Madness may very well be largely fictional. —Aran Anumarile Autaracu Alatasel (talk) 12:48, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

So is it settled then? Should we, or I, delete it? It's hard for me to say, since I'm rather new here, and I wouldn't like to jump into conclusions. ITakNieZnasz (talk) 20:05, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
It seems consensus is for removal, so I'd say go ahead and delete it. The potential existence of the lycanthropic Daedroth still seems worth mentioning here, if only to direct people who view the page to the lore book. I wouldn't have known of it's (purported) existence if it hadn't been listed here. --Xyzzy Talk 02:49, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
It is done. Aran Anumarile Autaracu Alatasel made it so it still points to the lore book, so it's rightfuly giving readers as much of valid lore as possible. ––ITakNieZnasz (talk) 13:56, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Moving Lycanthropy page, into a page named Lycanthrope and listing them under the bestiary instead of disease.[edit]

Now this, is something I've been thinking of on and on for a bit and it something I really want to do for a few months or see done. But before I do anything I wanted to create this talk, to see if people are in agreement for me doing this.

If you look at the vampire page, its not using the in game term for it vampirism, nor is it linking to the disease page. No what its doing is linking to the bestiary and using the proper term vampire. The proper term for lycanthropy or people with the condition is lycanthrope and that is what they are called as a creature, when they are not called werewolves, werebears and you name it. So the goal is this change the lycanthropy page to be called lycanthrope, and having lycanthropy redirect to the lycanthrope page. Moving it out of the disease category and into the bestiary. So are people here in agreement for me doing this? Because its something I've been wanting to see for quite a while now.TheVampKnight (talk) 23:10, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

I disagree. A majority of the page is dedicated to talking about the disease and the condition rather than the creatures themselves. We have massive sections devoted to symptoms of the disease, the effects of the condition granted by the disease, cures and treatments. Lore:Vampire spends most of its time talking about the creatures themselves rather than the diseases that birth them. This page isn't primarily about "The Lycanthrope", it's main focus is "The ins and outs of lycanthropy, which creates lycanthropes".
I would propose that we should instead move most of the werewolf sections (on werewolf packs, subtypes, etc) to a Lore:Werewolf, but I'm a little apprehensive towards that. We can't talk about werewolves without talking about lycanthropy; all lycanthropes share similar traits and symptoms. -MolagBallet (talk) 19:31, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
