The Bittercup is an artifact attributed to the Daedric prince Clavicus Vile whose sphere is the granting of power and wishes through ritual invocations and pacts.
A special item that will ask you if you wish to drink from it or pick it up when you activate it. If you choose to drink, the cup will disappear and you may not be able to complete some of the Thieves Guild Quests. Part of the last few Thieves Guild quests, see The Bitter Cup quest for more information. You need not decide right away, as the question will pop up again when you remove the cup from your inventory and activate it again.
Drinking from the Bittercup will increase your highest attribute by 20 points and decrease your lowest attribute by 20 points, permanently. If your highest attribute is above 80, it will not be raised higher than 100, and your lowest will still be reduced by the full 20 points. However, it is possible to control which attributes are affected with fortifying/draining effects, though it's still not possible to raise an attribute above 100.
Something to note is that the minimum and maximum attributes are checked linearly, in the same order that they appear on the stats menu. Therefore, if you have several minimum/maximum attributes the game will always choose the first one(s).
[edit] Notes
- The name of the artifact is spelled as one word, Bittercup, but is referred to as the Bitter Cup everywhere else, including the dialogue that asks if you want to drink from it.
- Another copy of the Bittercup can be found in the ToddTest test cell.
