Resist Magicka M points for D seconds

These effects decrease the damage or other negative effects dealt by any magical effect other than the four elemental damage effects. (Fire Damage, Frost Damage, Poison, and Shock Damage) This includes Absorb Health, Damage Health, and Drain Health, as well as non-damaging but still hostile effects such as any other Absorb, Damage, or Drain effects, Blind, Burden, Disintegrate, Sound, and any Weakness effects. It does not protect against effects with no magnitude, such as Paralyze or Silence.

Some races possess a natural Resist Magicka effect. Bretons are 50% resistant to magicka, and Orcs are 25% resistant. Altmer by contrast are 50% weak to magicka, so they in particular may want keep an eye out for spells and items with this effect in order to counteract that weakness.

[edit] Notes

  • A few items have a negative constant effect when you wear them. This effect is only checked the moment you put it on, and not afterwards. Thus, you can protect yourself from these negative effects with a very short-duration 100% Resist Magicka spell. 1-2 seconds is generally enough depending on how nimble your fingers are. Cast the spell and immediately open up your inventory, then equip the item, and the negative effect will be successfully blocked. The most popular item this trick is used with are the Boots of Blinding Speed.
