This is one of the two or three Dwemer books that you can show to Edwinna Elbert in the Ald'ruhn Mage's Guild. The pictures illustrate the Heart of Lorkhan, Keening, and Sunder.

Upon bringing this book to Edwinna, she will tell you to go and talk to Hasphat Antabolis in the bottom of the Fighters Guild in Balmora. There, he will tell you that you "might want to take it to one of the older Telvanni".

The "older Telvanni" could only mean the thousands of years old Divayth Fyr in Tel Fyr, upon taking it to him, he directs you to the dwemer Yagrum Bagarn.

Upon taking the book and Divine Metaphysics to him, he explains: "By refreshing my memory with "Divine Metaphysics", I believe I can explain. The dwemer were not unified in their thinking. Kagrenac and his tonal architects, among them Bthuand Mzachnch, believed they could improve the Dwemer race. Others argued that the attempt would be too great a risk. The war with Nerevar and the Dunmer may have led Kagrenac to carry out his experiments prematurely. Although this book argues that nothing disastrous could result, the disappearance of my race argues otherwise."

Lastly, this book's story and it's pictures seem closely related to the story of "Kagrenac's Tools". A story you will come across in the main story line. One of the images seems to depict either the god Lorkhan or a member of the Dwemer race in a "pose of proportions" similar to "The Vitruvian Man" by Leonardo da Vinci. Below the figure, the Heart of Lorkhan is shown. The illustration shows a relationship between the Heart and the figure, and is framed on either side by one image each of Sunder and Keening. On another page of the book, this image is repeated in an altered fashion. This time depicting the figure (Lorkhan or Dwemer) engulfed in flames while Keening and Sunder (two symmetrical depictions of each this time, one on each side) seem to be striking the heart. This is possibly an indication of the number of times and with which tool the Heart should be struck. The previous relationship between the figure and the Heart seems to either be destroyed or focused, similar to the depiction of light being focused by a lense. If it is indeed a focusing, then the flames engulfing the figure may be a symbol of "forging" the Dwemer race into something new. The Dwemer were known for their craftsmanship, and so "fire" may be tied to the forge and "creation" moreso than "destruction". Conversely, it could depict their destruction and may be a warning against the misuse of the Heart and Kagrenac's Tools.
