[edit] Detailed Walkthrough

[edit] Duties

Athyn Sarethi in his manor in Ald'ruhn will ask you to kill a former Redoran Noble, Arethan Mandas, who has gone mad. Arethan is in a cave known as Milk and is harassing travellers by demanding tribute. Milk is found a bit to the west of Ald'ruhn.

[edit] Arethan's Madness

The simplest and quickest method is to just kill Arethan, though there is another solution. Sarethi mentions that Arethan's father, Llerar Mandas, can be found in the Grand Council Chambers in Ebonheart, and that you might want to talk to him before traveling to Milk. Llerar will tell you that his son went mad after Divayth Fyr kidnapped Arethan's daughter, Delyna, and believes that the return of Delyna just might cure Arethan's madness.

[edit] Rescuing Arethan's Daughter

If you've gone far enough into the Main Quest, you've probably encountered the recluse Divayth before in the Tower of Tel Fyr, on one of the the islands southwest of Sadrith Mora. You don't need to talk with Fyr, as Delyna can be found downstairs, behind a locked (60) and trapped door (which can be opened with Divayth's 1008th Key - don't worry about Fyr's daughters, they don't seem to care). Escort Delyna to the tower entrance. Once there, she will give you an amulet, which you can show to Arethan as proof that she is alive.

[edit] Curing Arethan

Travel to Milk and show Arethan the amulet and he will become slightly more sane and promise to stop demanding tribute. Report back to Sarethi in Ald'ruhn to complete the quest and receive a noticeable increase in disposition with all Redoran members. If you report back to the grandfather in Ebonheart after rescuing Delyna, you get a reward of an Ebony Closed Helm as well.

[edit] Notes

  • Even if you're not a member of House Redoran, you can do this quest by saving Delyna and then talking to Arethan (Sarethi will still give you the reward).

10 Athyn Sarethi told me that the Redoran Noble, Arethan Mandas, has gone insane and has been demanding tribute from travellers from the cavern Milk which is on the road to Maar Gan just north of the crossroads. I should find a way to cure him if possible, or kill him if necessary. He suggested that I speak with Arethan's father, Llerar Mandas in Ebonheart.
30 Arethan Mandas seems quite mad, but I think he mentioned something about his daughter, Delyna Mandas, and his father, Llerar Mandas, and something about Tel Fyr.
70 Arethan Mandas seemed to recover from his madness long enough to promise he would no longer demand tribute from travelers if he knew his daughter, Delyna Mandas, was safe. Delyna is apparently being held captive in Tel Fyr.
90 I brought Delyna's locket to Arethan Mandas and he seemed to recover from his madness. He promised to stop demanding tribute. I should report back to Athyn Sarethi.
100 Finished Athyn Sarethi thanked me for killing the Mad Lord, Arethan Mandas.
110 Finished Athyn Sarethi thanked me for restoring Arethan Mandas to his senses.
