Where?[edit]

I would like to suggest a page that list the whereabouts of the armor.

For the hard to find stuff, there is a list over at Rare Items. - Vathelokai 23:19, 8 February 2008 (EST)

How many?[edit]

I think it should show the count of how many of this item exist in game in the table.—Sam324 11:28, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

If you mean the rare items, their page already lists al the locations so listing the amount isn't really necessary, if you mean the standard items, they are random so the number is different each time. --Volanaro 11:36, 26 April 2008 (EDT)
..And even the ones that aren't random or rare are usually not worth counting simply becuase they are common enough that the value itself would have no meaning. --HMSVictoryTalk

Heavy Leather Boots[edit]

Heavy Leather Boots: Are they seriously armor 50? (Fightswithrat 01:34, 13 May 2008 (EDT))

Yes. Just checked. –RpehTCE 02:26, 13 May 2008 (EDT)

Where exactly can they be found? The reason I ask this is because they are not listed under Morrowind:Rare Items, which is strange considering that I have never come across them during my time spent playing this game. The same goes for the Leather Bracers, though I assume the bracers are more common than the Heavy Leather Boots. If anyone could post a list of possible locations for the Heavy Leather Boots, I would be very appreciative. Thank you for your time. --67.166.207.210 15:41, 6 November 2008 (EST)

Hmm, I was going to say they're just not valuable enough to be featured on Rare Items, but apparently they're as strong as Glass Boots (though heavier and less enchantable), and considerably harder to find. Here's a list of places you can find them:
And that's it. They're not found in any leveled lists, so you won't see them in random loot. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:10, 6 November 2008 (EST)
Bracers: there are a few people that wear them and they're in a leveled list but there are leather bracers in Serano Ancestral Tomb and Andalen Ancestral Tomb. –RpehTCE 01:10, 7 November 2008 (EST)
Okay, but unlike the boots, I don't see any reason to add them to the Rare Items page - besides being found in a leveled list making them more common, they're not particularly valuable, so people aren't as likely to want to find them. That page should be reserved for items which are both rare and useful. If you start adding stuff that's just rare, it would go on forever. --TheRealLurlock Talk 08:53, 7 November 2008 (EST)

() This item require clarification. In my patched game (Tribunal, Bloodmoon, MCP & Morrowind patch 1.6.4), without any 3d party mods that can change items (the only i use is no glow and better heads), these boots cost 10 drakes instead of 100 and have armor rating like fur armor, 5 instead of 50. weight 8, AR 5, cost 10. Oxyk 10:43, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

You are correct. I have added the note. --Brf 19:48, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Revamp Redirects[edit]

I'm proposing changing all of the individual armor redirects that point to this page to instead point to the various style pages. For example, the redirect at Ebony Cuirass would be changed from Morrowind:Base Armor#Ebony Cuirass to Morrowind:Ebony#Ebony Cuirass. The basic reason is that a redirect for a given item should point to the location that contains the most comprehensive information on that item. The style pages now contain far more information than the Base Armor page (description of the style/material, images, locations of rare items, links to related enchanted items, etc.). The other alternative, namely adding that information to the Base Armor page, would be highly redundant and also impossible for practical reasons (the resulting page would be far too large to load).

The only disadvantage I can see to changing the redirects is that it would be harder to compare the items to other similar items (e.g., the Ebony Cuirass would not be shown in a table with all of the other medium cuirasses). However, it seems to me that it is just as likely that a reader interested in an Ebony Cuirass would want to see the other Ebony items. In addition, the tables on the style pages all include links to the the Base Armor page, so the additional information is just a click away. On the other hand, there are currently no links from this page to the style pages -- which is one reason for several of the questions previously posted to this talk page. It is not apparent to readers that there may be additional information about the items listed here.

Updating all of the redirects will be a bot job, so it won't really be too difficult to implement. However, I wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking any complications before making such a large-scale change. I'm also proposing a similar change to the weapons, at Morrowind talk:Base Weapons#Revamp Redirects. --NepheleTalk 17:01, 16 November 2008 (EST)

effective Armor rating[edit]

How is the effective armor rating calculated? On the heavy armor page it says that with maxxed heavy armor skill you'll get an armor rating of 266 from daedric, but daedric is listed as only having a rating of 80. Same with light or medium armor - how do you get 168 light armor rating from 50(glass armor)? -Meisterdieb 18:49, 16 January 2009 (EST)

Bethsoft Forums
 Calculations: Armor Rating, Spell Chance
 To determine your Armor Rating:
 by Monica21 & Elric_Melnibone
 BaseAR * ( ArmorSkill / 30 )
This will give you the armor rating for an individual piece of armor. Assume a character has a Light Armor skill of 91 and wears only Light Armor, all pieces with a base AR of 50.
50 * ( 91 / 30 ) = 151.67 AR for each piece. The game will round this down, and the individual AR will appear as 151.
To determine your total AR, multiply each armor piece by its weighted factor, and then total them. The factors (shown as Percent of Total Armor Rating) are actually listed incorrectly in the manual. Following are the correct weight factors:
 Cuirass - 30%
 Shield - 10%
 Helm - 10%
 Greaves - 10%
 Boots - 10%
 RPauldron - 10%
 LPauldron - 10%
 RGauntlet/Bracer - 5%
 LGauntlet/Bracer - 5%
(I tested these factors on my own character. Wearing just the cuirass, her AR should have been 60 with a factor of 0.40, but it's actually 45, the same as if the factor was 0.30.)
For the cuirass, multiply (151 * 0.30). This equals 45. Repeat for each piece of armor you have equipped, and then total the numbers. If your character does not wear a helm or equip a shield, the total AR will be 121.
NOTE: These numbers do not take into account how your Unarmored skill factors in for any unarmored body parts, and the numbers also assume fully repaired armor.

To determine your Unarmored Armor Rating:
 ( UnarmoredSkill * 0.10) * ( UnarmoredSkill * 0.065 )
Assuming that your Unarmored skill is 100, this will yield a max AR of 65, with no armored body parts.

Not mine, but I did minimal tests to confirm. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 03:32, 17 January 2009 (EST)

Wonder: Imperial heavy and medium[edit]

How it came to be that there is armour rating 20 for Imperial Chain Pauldrons, but only 16 for Imperial Steel Pauldrons? And the price goes high for Steel? More, the chain (for pauldrons) is rated as heavy type armour. And once more, the Chain greaves and chain curiass are medium on the other hand. I though that the whole set should be marked as one type (either medium or heavy, but whole set). Still wonder. — Unsigned comment by Janmojzis (talkcontribs)

The fact that the pauldrons are marked as heavy armor is widely considered a bug, and is corrected by various unofficial patches. Why they have a better AR is another question, but it may simply have been set high so that the guards would wear the pauldrons. --Gaebrial 06:46, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Combined Armour List?[edit]

I was just wondering, but if it's not here, do we have a list of complete armours in the game, post-official plugins and expansions? It would make life a lot easier than going between pages and comparing them manually. If it already exists, maybe it should be linked to from this page? If it doesn't, maybe this page would be a good place to add it? 81.23.50.232 08:13, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Listing of armor types[edit]

The cuirasses are listed in order of quality, the rest is listed in alphabetical order. Is this intentional (or kept that way because this matches the current screenshots)? For most users, order of quality is probably the most logical order. Ctrl+f is easily found when a specific name is needed. Either way, a uniform approach may be a bit more graceful. — Unsigned comment by 77.163.207.25 (talk) at 15:35 on February 3, 2011

It seems to be done by the pictures...But anyway, the tables are sortable, so you can set it to be sorted by any of the columns. --DKong27 Talk Cont 20:47, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Gladiator armor set[edit]

In Morrowind, it is possible to find a complete set of armor Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, is using in the movie Gladiator. Firstly, the Imperial Dragonscale Helm is clearly took from the film, only it has been combined with a dragonscale neckcover. Combining the helmet with an Imperial Steel Cuirass (which has the same kind of ornaments in it than in Maximus' armor in Gladiator, with the two horses and everything), Imperial Steel Pauldrons, an Iron Shield, Iron Bracers, an Imperial Shortsword, Imperial Steel Greaves and either Iron or Steel Boots. Oh, and it would be proper if your character was Imperial... I don't remember Maximus having a scaly snout.

Redoran Shields[edit]

So, I found a graphical glitch with the quest specific Banner shields, but I've only found one existing copy of the regular Guard shield, on a named NPC in Arobar manor, Ald-Skar. None of the generic Redoran Guards carry these, unlike Telvanni and Hlallu guards... Anyone found any other copies outside of Arobar manor? ~G.S. Coletrane 107.2.206.93 19:15, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Which shields are you talking about? rpeh •TCE 22:01, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Redoran Guard Shields. I've found two restocking ones sold by the Fighters guild smith, and the town smith just outside Skar. Still fairly rare. I'm also not very familiar with the Redoran Territories and Holdings so I've only checked Ald-Ruhn. ~G.S. Coletrane 107.2.206.93 23:10, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Okay. Additionally, there's a Redoran Guard Shield in Fadathram Ancestral Tomb, plus copies are held by Ureval Dralayn, Nilos Talds, Mondros Balur, and the four guards in Sarethi Manor. rpeh •TCE 08:32, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Still comes out being more rare than the other house shields. More readily available though, because besides house quests, I think the only way to obtain Hlallu and Telvanni Shields is bu gutting a guard. ~G.S. Coletrane 107.2.206.93 16:42, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, but what point are you trying to make here? rpeh •TCE 20:21, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
And not true anyway, since they show up in shops (maybe also containers?) in the relevant areas sometimes. In my current game I have once of each (I'm an item hoarder) but have avoided killing guards, other than one Ordinator for his armor, and later one Royal Guard for the same reason (you don't need to do this for High Ordinator gear; you'll find a dead one of these guys in the "The Thief" quest. — Darklocq  ¢ 11:37, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Colovian Fur Helm[edit]

The Construction Set seems to say that the Colovian Fur Helm has an enchantment rating of 75, contrary to the 7.5 listed on this article. Is the page incorrect, or is there something else going on here? —Atvelonis (talk) 01:55, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Oh, nevermind, my question is answered in the first sentence of the article. —Atvelonis (talk) 01:57, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Needs base and max[edit]

This list (and some others) need both the base and max. armor rating values, like various other pages have (see, e.g., armor items at Morrowind:Quest Items. This seems to be a standardized feature that hasn't been fully implemented everywhere yet. — Darklocq  ¢ 08:20, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Iron boots[edit]

The "Morrowind:Iron" page has the correct value for iron boots, but this page and "Morrowind:Armor by Body Area" do not. — Unsigned comment by 184.88.218.203 (talk) at 01:54 on 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Corrected. Nice catch, thanks for pointing it out! — Wolfborn(Howl) 04:47, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
