This page is currently a work in progress, some things still need to be expanded. Other things listed here could be, but aren't as imperative. However, adding them would make this definitely more comprehensive.

Needs To Be Expanded[edit]

  • Create Maps Enable
I have attempted to describe how this setting works. I hope my explanation is understandable. --Gaebrial 03:47, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

INI Trouble[edit]

When I make changes to the morrowind.ini file, the game seems to just ignore them, e.g. I changed 'Screen Shot Enable=0' to 'Screen Shot Enable=1' and the game still tells me they are disabled. Same deal with the AllowYesToAll command. I've edited a fair few INI files in my time, but this has never happened before and I'm stumped. Anyone know why this might be? —Daniellibus ETC 15:52, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Good question, it shouldn't ignore it. As far as I can tell Morrowind only has one Morrowind.ini (unlike Oblivion, where there is a separate Oblivion.ini for every Windows user). Are the settings still as you set them when you open the file again (or reset)?
I use MGE and it seems to successfully tweak the Morrowind.ini for me. --Timenn-<talk> 13:16, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I have the same problem as Daniellibus; my game says that screenshots are disabled, while they are enabled in the .ini file. --Neekerisanni123 20:12, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

I have observed this in Windows Vista. I suspect it is related to how Vista treats programs that are in the Program Files directory. doing a full search, I found the file in "C:\Users\JabberwockySR\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind" and altering it there was effective.68.73.59.119 13:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I have similar problem : I change settings in the game (invert mouse y and subtitles), quit, ini file is not changed. Then I edit the ini file, change settings. Launch morrowind, settings are default again (while the ini file still contains my changes). Curiously, I changed the screen shot to enable, and that worked in game, only the mouse axis and subtitle changes back all the time. Quite annoying, having to change it all the time... It happened on my other pc as well (though not when I played it several years ago..). (Windows XP. Installed as admin, but current user has ownership of files and all right to modify them). Curious solution: I've checked the registry. The keys were actually flip=1 and subtitle=1 so it should've worked.

However they were under admin, so I gave my user fullcontrol permission, and then it worked! I really hate it when a program asks to have admin rights to be installed, and then doesn't work under user... (and running stuff under admin is bad practice). Anyway, there you go, it might help the other guys. Hoemaco 08:53, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm running Morrowind on Windows 7. I've edited both of the morrowind.ini files (in the users folder and in the morrowind folder) to include Screen Shot Enable=1. I gave all users full access to the morrowind folder & subdirectories. When I run the game I still receive the 'screenshots disabled' message.
When I try running the game as admin the game loads in default resolution & I'm unable to load savegames (the list was blank), but screenshots did work. So what do I do now, start the game again by playing as admin? I had edited the screen width & screen height in the registry for a custom resolution, why doesn't that work running as admin? And can I copy my savegames so that I can load them while running the game as admin? 74.57.188.148 19:18, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
This may not be the answer you're looking for, but I've found that installing the game in a completely custom folder (like C:\Games, rather than in the default Program Files folder), seems to make pretty much all such issues disappear. If you don't find any better solutions, it might be worth a shot. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:32, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
That is a great idea to avoid issues under Vista/Win7. It seems to work flawlessly now, thank you very much for the suggestion! 74.57.188.148 20:37, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Glad to hear it worked out for you! Robin Hood  (talk) 21:51, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Copy of INI file[edit]

my computer doesn't open te link for the .ini page, it says the server is forbiden to me, where could i get another .ini file? — Unsigned comment by 189.164.252.239 (talk) on 13 November 2009

I suggest making a copy of the one on your hard drive. If the problem is that one was never placed on your hard drive, then reinstalling should do the trick. — Unsigned comment by 68.73.59.119 (talk) on 19 January 2010

Revision[edit]

I'm planning to do a complete revision of this article. Should I only add settings that are useful to change or all settings? --Killfetzer 22:56, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

I'd tend to go with only the useful ones, personally, but at the same time, adding all of them gives us the ability to decide what's useful afterwards and refer back to older versions if we remove one and then change our minds. So if you have the interest in adding all of them, and don't mind that some of them might be removed later, go nuts. Robin Hoodtalk 05:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
