Hardware Compatibility[edit]

is the ps3's hardware compatible with morrowind? is it possible to play through linux on the ps3?— Unsigned comment by 75.154.124.81 (talk)

Morrowind never came out with any PS version, so I doubt it will work on the PS3. The only platforms it was released on were PC and Xbox. It may work on the Xbox 360 as well, but I'm almost certain it will not work on anything in the PS line. (There may be some hacks for it around, but a.) It'd be illegal and we're not allowed to discuss that sort of thing on this site, and b.) it probably won't be easy either. I'd just get the PC version. Any modern computer should be able to play it now. --TheRealLurlock Talk 01:22, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Xbox Slow Loading[edit]

I have the Xbox version, and it takes ages to load. Why? Zander 00:41, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

The xbox has a slow hard drive and large save files probably don't help either. My load time is about 2-3 minutes from a save with ~ 200 blocks, on an original Xbox. --BenouldTC 05:35, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Video card?[edit]

Just wondering if anyone knows if Morrowind will work with a NVIDIA Geforce 6400 /6600 (cant remember what mine is). Oblivion works fine with it, so i was just wondering if Morrowind would work

Thanks 80.229.154.146 11:17, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

It should be fine, since all previous modern generations of Nvidia cards are supported. Any modern computer with a dedicated video card should be able to play it now. --BenouldTC 11:53, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

Ok thanks for the help, I think mine's a dedicated Video card. 80.229.154.146 13:44, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

Does anyone know if intel's newer X3100 chipset will work well, since it is said to be much improved upon earlier chipsets?-78.150.148.205 14:12, 12 November 2008 (EST)

Yeah, read the whole article, you just need a video card made in the last 5 years. Anything with a "32MB Direct3D Compatible video card and DirectX 8.1 compatible driver" works Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 09:31, 13 November 2008 (EST)
I think he meant the performance levels, like can it run, and how well. It seems to lag on a Intel GMA 4500HD with like 1GB of shared RAM when you battle or enter a new area on screen on 1200 x 800, running 1024 x 768. Thisis 12:30, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Help?[edit]

I have been playing morrowind for a while, and while re-installing it i got this message:

Component:Data files
File group: Data files
File: E:\data2.cab
Error: data error(cyclic redundancy check)

Can anyone help me with this? — Unsigned comment by 70.238.63.16 (talk) on 5 March 2009

That means there has been an error reading from the disc. Try cleaning your CD. –RpehTCE 00:37, 6 March 2009 (EST)

Snowflake Mesh Error on Vista[edit]

A helpful hint for those who have Installed Morrowind on a Vista machine, the link to the forum has this very, very large "fix." When the actual fix is very simple, all you need to do is run morrowind.exe as an Administrator. That's it, I did not do any of the steps it said to do, but run the game as an administrator, if you would like to confirm this with screen shots, I encourage you to. 69.129.199.244 23:06, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

'tis true. Or disable uac, that works. 124.180.235.113 02:51, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

64 bit (W7)[edit]

Wow it's been forever since i've been here! Anyway, is morrowind goty cool to install on my 64 bit os?--WerdnanoslenTalk 05:38, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Yup. It works fine for me on 64-bit Vista. rpeh •TCE 07:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
I think he meant for Windows 7. According to Microsoft's official compatibility list http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=Morrowind&v=Bethesda%20Softworks&uid=&l=en&pf=0&pi=2&c=PC%20Gaming&sc=Action%20%26%20Adventure&os=64-bit
There's no information of "official word yet". But two other games from Bethesda have information on them. Startrek requires you to get a updated version, and Fallout isn't officially compatible.
Some people claim to have success playing Morrowind, so you might be able too. Thisis 02:00, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

new data for the Morrowind Video card table[edit]

I'd like to see a video card table for Morrowind, like Oblivion has.

Why? Various reasons, some people are running old machines trying to see if they squeak by. Some might be running on hand down parts, or some may have felt like building a computer out of spare parts.

Who knows they may want an idea or spec table.

ati Radeon 9200 PCI 128MB works. 1024 x 768. Pixel shading off, Visibility max. Lags when in new areas, and all kinds of enemies/sprites on screen.

ati Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB works. 1024 x 768. Pixel shading off, Visibility max. Lags when in new areas, and all kinds of enemies/sprites on screen.

Intel GMA 3000 ???? 1024 x 768 Pixel Shading off. Visibility max. Fine when walking around the gameplay screen, lags when entering new areas or your in a heavy battle.

Intel GMA 4500HD ????? 1024 x 768 Pixel shading off. Visibility max. Fine when walking around the gameplay screen, lags when entering new areas or your in a heavy battle.

nVidia TNT2 AGP 32MB 800 x 600 Everything turned all the way down. Lags like crazy on everything. Moving around the map even lags a bit.

nVidia GeForce2 AGP 32MB works. 800 x 600 Everything turned all the way down. Even the loading screens lag. Once the map loads its somewhat jerky,

nVidia GeForce2 v7100 PRO AGP 64MB 800 x 600 same as the GeForce2 everything way down, still lags, on the game screens it'll be jerky when moving.

nVidia GeForce4 MX440 8x AGP 64MB 1024 x 768 with the shaders off and visibilty max. It has got a small amount of lag in the gameplay screen, when enemies come on screen it lags, when you enter a new area it lags.

nVidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP 128MB 1024 x 768 with the shaders off and visibility max. It has lag when moving around the map, when engaged. Actually seems worse than the older MX440 8x AGP.

nVidia Quadro FX 500/600 AGP 128MB 1024 x 768 with the shaders turned off, and visibility max. It seems fine, when you enter a new area its got a momentary lag, but its fine during walking, a little bit laggy in heavy battles.

Processor list[edit]

I'd like to see a processor list too. But one with the accompanying video card if available. Sometimes you get weird high low pairings, like a super fast processor with a crappy video card or a horrible processor with a fast video card.

Pixel Shader OFF to get anything decent.

I saw the high medium low rating thing already going. I don't want people thinking just because a card is old that it's automatically low performance, or a new one is "better". The low #'d versions of the GeForce FX line are SLOW!!!!

LOW is lag everywhere, you click eh- lag.
MEDIUM is smooth playing most of the time with a little bit of lag when it gets crazy or you see a enter a new area on literally medium settings.
HIGH is smooth on EVERYTHING, with EVERYTHING on including pixel shading.

AMD 1400+ 1.4ghz works

(nVidia TNT2 AGP 32MB 800 x 600) LOW
(nVidia GeForce2 AGP 32MB 800 x 600) LOW

AMD 1600+ 1.6ghz works

(nVidia TNT2 AGP 32MB 800 x 600) LOW
(nVidia GeForce2 AGP 32MB 800 x 600) LOW

Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz 533 FSB works

(nVidia GeForce4 MX440 8x AGP 64MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM - LOW

Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz 533 FSB works

(nVidia GeForce4 MX440 8x AGP 64MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM - LOW
(nVidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP 128MB 1024 x 768) LOW

Intel Celeron D 2.93ghz 533 FSB works

(ati Radeon 9200 PCI 128MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM
(ati Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM

Intel Pentium Inside Dual Core 2.0ghz works

(with Intel GMA 4500HD 1024 X 768) MEDIUM

Intel Pentium D (Dual Core) 3.4ghz 800 FSB works

(ati Radeon 9200 PCI 128MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM
(ati Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB 1024 x 768) MEDIUM
(Intel GMA 3000 ???? 1024 x 768) MEDIUM

I don't think this is necessary. The game is 8 years old and almost anything anybody is likely to use for playing games runs it just fine. Even my elderly laptop (1.86GHz Pentium M with 1.5GB) runs it, albeit a little slowly if I'm stupid enough to try it at 1900x1200. If you're using a machine > 8 years old to run games, the problem isn't with your machine. rpeh •TCE 14:43, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Well this is a wiki on the information. And the game being "8 years old" doesn't make it automatically fast on any machine. Even newer intel GMAs have lousy playability at 1024 x 768, and are only somewhat fluid at 800 x 600.
I think the recommended stats should be boosted, to a video card with at least 8 pipelines, for 1024 x 768 with pixel shader OFF. The GeForce2 GTS recommendation is kind of weak, and maybe for fluid play on a really low setting.
The processor you use playing this game as long as its about 1.4ghz doesn't seem to be a problem, its really the video card and the DirectX support, and the pipelines, and that's capped off by the video card's interface.
I didn't say GPU or mem clock, because that's not always true. Newer cards with low specs but more pipelines (DirectX 7 cards that are only compatible versus 8.1 or 9.0 cards) may still be faster than older cards with higher specs.
A table for the playability of the game with various video cards could be there. Or is that blocking your internet tube with all the text?

Thisis 01:28, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Sarcasm isn't going to get you anywhere. The minimum spec and supported chipsets comes from the back of the Morrowind box. That recommended spec will work fine as long as you don't try to run stupidly-high resolutions. I don't know where the recommended spec came from but it's on other sites too and has been on the site for 3 years without anybody else complaining. rpeh •TCE 09:20, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Integrated graphics[edit]

Any chance a laptop with Intel HD Graphics can run this? I'm fine on clock speed and RAM, but I know Intel integrated stuff is pretty crappy. — Unsigned comment by VORSEY (talkcontribs) on 11 december 2011

This is an older game, so it should run OK with an integrated card. Not so with Oblivion. --Brf 03:19, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. Im fine with OB and Skyrim on my PS3, but i didn't want Morrowind to be the only ES game I never beat.— Unsigned comment by VORSEY (talkcontribs) on 12 December 2011

Radeon x300[edit]

Will a Radeon x300 video card be enough to run Morrowind? All my other specs are much better than the minimum requirements. Nothinglord 00:56, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

aspire v3-571[edit]

Hi, I really want to play Morrowind on my pc, I have an Acer aspire v3-571, will it run okay? I also have my old xbox, but I guess it's better on pc? Thanks. --193.71.112.36 13:24, 16 March 2014 (GMT)
