Andragil

Andragil, a female Bosmer Commoner whose house can be found above Dro'shanji's in the north-central part of Bravil, is the master trainer in Block.

[edit] Block Master Training

The two advanced trainers who can give you the master training reference necessary to start this quest are Ambroise Canne and Lum gro-Baroth.

Before Andragil will train you, she wants to first test your blocking abilities. You will need to surivive a 40 second long beating from Andragil's warhammer. You cannot physically harm her during the test (except for hand-to-hand combat, although this is somewhat counter to the spirit of the exercise).

Holster your weapons, keep them holstered for the duration of the test, and don't get yourself killed. A nice shield is also recommended. It's not a requirement, but you'll have a better chance of staying alive. If your shield breaks during the test, you will be disqualified, so make sure you've got one in good repair, preferably of the Heavy Armor variety even if you're specialized in Light Armor, since those last longer. Alternatively, you can carry several shields, and swap them out if they take a beating, as the game pauses when you open your inventory. Just never be without a shield for even a moment during the fight.

It is recommended that you remove any items which cause you to reflect damage while fighting Andragil, or you may end up accidently killing her. This can be a problem if you use the Escutcheon of Chorrol, for example.

Although Andragil's goal is to test your blocking ability, the primary requirement is just to stay alive for 40 seconds without drawing a weapon. Some alternative ways to pass the test are:

  • If your Speed is high enough you can just evade Andragil: keep her dinner table between you and her for the duration of the test.
  • Use Paralyze spells to temporarily disable Andragil.
  • Use Invisibility (or 100% Chameleon) and Andragil won't even take a swing at you.
  • It is also possible to hide inside Andragil's closet during the test; she will not attempt to open the closet doors.

[edit] Quest Stages

Block Training (TrainingBlock)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 If I want more training to improve my Block skill, I need to find Andragil, who lives in Bravil.
20 I need to demonstrate to Andragil that I can block her attacks. I'll need to prepare as well as I can.
100 0Yes Andragil has agreed to help me train.
200 0Yes Andragil is dead. I can be taught no more to improve my Block skill.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage quest stage. Where quest is the internal name of the quest, and stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
