Baenlin is an aging Bosmer pilgrim living in Bruma together with his man-servant, bodyguard, and friend, Gromm. Apparently he has made a few enemies as he's the target of a Dark Brotherhood hit. Or perhaps it is his assets, coveted by his nephew Caenlin, that lead to his tragic accident. In any case, Vicente Valtieri wants to see him dead, so he hands the contract over to you.
Baenlin lives his life at ease and feels perfectly safe with Gromm at his side all day and night. He wakes up in his upstairs bedroom every day at 6am and heads downstairs for a three hour breakfast while occasionally chatting with Gromm. Once full, he will head back to his bed for a two hour nap. He gets up again at 11am and wanders around on the second floor until his lunchtime at 2pm, which he will take in the dining area on the first floor until 7pm. At that time, he will go take a seat in his favorite chair, never even thinking about the dangerous minotaur head that hangs right above him. He relaxes in the chair until 1am, when he heads to bed.
As he is very well-off, his clothing is upper-class: a pair of blue suede shoes and a blue velvet outfit. He carries around his house key and a considerable amount of gold.
His nephew is rumored to have been the one responsible for the "accident" and when you enter Baenlin's house, you'll understand why he could be: there is silverware to be found everywhere as well as a huge amount of rare ingredients. The basement reveals a hefty stock of wines and in the cupboard on the first floor there's a big chance of finding one or two rare vintages from either the Surilie Brothers or Tamika. On the second floor, his bedroom reveals even more goods: a jewelry box contains some assorted jewelry and a fair chance of a leveled random magic item. On the same shelves, a silver dagger lies on top of some books, and a chest near the bed contains even more jewelry and gold. From the drawers in the corner, a quiet ringing noise signals the presence of a Nirnroot. In Gromm's room, opposite Baenlin's, there is a bottle of Cyrodilic brandy to be collected as well as an iron war axe. In a small room near the door, an iron battle axe can be found along with a fur helmet. It lies on top of yet another locked chest, containing a blunt weapon in steel or silver quality as well as a randomly selected piece of iron armor. None of the items in the house are marked as owned and as a result you can take it all without getting in trouble.
He's quite anti-social and never leaves the house or welcomes visitors. Therefore, he will be very surprised when he spots you in his house: ”Huh? You’re not Gromm. Who are you? Why are you in my home?” If you choose to stay quiet, he will say: "Why are you here? What do you want? Get out of my house!" If you choose to be cryptic and tell him that "The Night Mother loves you," he will panic: ”The Night Mother? What’s this all about? I... I think you should leave now. You hear me? Get out! Gromm! Gromm! We have an intruder!” If you tell him that somebody has put a contract on his head, he gets very scared: ”Dead? Me? There... there must be some mistake... I’m just an old man! Just an old man!”
After Baenlin is crushed by the minotaur head, his nephew will be quick to take over his inheritance and when approached, he does not seem very sad about his uncle's demise: "Maybe you knew my uncle. Baenlin? He died recently. Stuffed head fell on him. Very tragic. Well, goodbye." Also, the Black Horse Courier will print a special edition on the incident, in which both Caenlin and Gromm are interviewed. After the tragedy, Gromm relocates to Olav's Tap and Tack, where he drinks twenty four hours a day and can be heard mourning about the loss of his friend: "Baenlin... Oh Baenlin... I loved ya, old man. I loved ya... But I couldn't protect ya... Oh Baenlin! Waaaahhhhh! [sobbing]"
