Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Defender[edit]

Once your Block skill reaches 70, speak with either Ambroise Canne in Skingrad or with Lum gro-Baroth in the Chorrol Fighters Guild, to learn that Andragil will be able to train you further in your Block skill.

Andragil lives in the city of Bravil. Speak with her about how you may receive master training from her and she will set up a challenge for you. You will need to survive a 40 second long beating from Andragil's warhammer. You cannot physically harm her during the test (except for hand-to-hand combat, although this is somewhat counter to the spirit of the exercise).

The Test[edit]

Holster your weapons and equip the best shield you have so you have a better chance of staying alive. It is recommended that you remove any items which cause you to reflect damage while fighting Andragil, or you may end up accidentally killing her. This can be a problem if you use the Escutcheon of Chorrol, for example.

Although Andragil's goal is to test your blocking ability, the primary requirement is just to stay alive for 40 seconds without drawing a weapon. Some alternative ways to pass the test are:

  • If your Speed is high enough you can just evade Andragil: keep her dinner table between you and her for the duration of the test.
  • Use Paralyze spells to temporarily disable Andragil.
  • Use Invisibility (or 100% Chameleon) and Andragil won't even take a swing at you.
  • It is also possible to hide inside Andragil's closet during the test; she will not attempt to open the closet doors.

Once you have passed her test, she will agree to provide master training for you.

Bugs[edit]

  • Although Andragil insists that you don't have your weapon drawn at the start of the test, you are free to use one, although killing her obviously fails the test.
  • Andragil possesses dialogue that indicates the test was supposed to finish unsuccessfully if you lower your guard at any point. The script that makes the check is commented out, however, so you can drop your shield at any time.

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage TrainingBlock stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
