Boethia's Chosen are the contestants that you must defeat in the Tournament of the Ten Bloods to prove your worth to the Daedric Prince Boethia. Depending on your race, one of them won't appear during the quest. All of them possess a unique ability named Boethia's Chosen One's Blessing, which confers them an impressive boost to their abilities: Fortify Luck, Speed and Strength by 30 points, Fortify Agility and Endurance by 20 points, Fortify Blade, Blunt and Marksman by 30 points, Fortify Health and Magicka by 50 points and 30% Shield. Also, all of them are able to cast the Heal Minor Wounds spell.

The Chosen Argonian

This Chosen One is a female Argonian. She wears a leveled heavy cuirass that is always unenchanted along with a pair of lower-class pants. She is armed with an unenchanted leveled bow, a single steel arrow and a leveled longsword or claymore. The blade may be enchanted with 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9. The bow and long blade are always of the highest quality available. Starting at level 3 she will also carry a leveled quantity of magical arrows (up to 6 or 8 depending on level, with 75% chance per arrow), 75% of carrying a strong potion of healing as well as a strong poison of Illness and a weak poison of Paralysis. She knows a leveled major Chameleon spell and a leveled major Destruction spell (always strongest for the Chosen's skill level), but won't be able to cast them due to a bug.

The Chosen Breton

This Chosen One is a male Breton. He wears two pieces of lower-class clothing consisting of a shirt and a pair of pants although starting at level 3 he will wear a guaranteed enchanted light cuirass instead (always best possible quality for his level). He is armed with a leveled blunt weapon that may be enchanted, starting at 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9. He will also carry a Greater staff to use as a secondary weapon starting at level 6 (blunt weapon and staff are always of highest quality, therefore the staff will always be a Greater Staff of Storms from level 21).

He has 75% chance per potion of carrying up to two strong potions of Healing and two strong potions of Sorcery (also 75% chance per bottle) along with a single guaranteed strong poison of Paralysis. He is also able to cast the standard set of Bandit Hedge Wizard spells (always strongest for the Chosen's skill level).

While the Breton Chosen is intended to have the Bandit Wizard birthsign (+25 Fortify Magicka), it is implemented through a leveled list which does not actually apply it.

The Chosen Dark Elf

This Chosen One is a male Dunmer. He is clad in a leveled light cuirass that is always unenchanted combined with a pair of lower-class pants. He is armed with an enchanted leveled bow of the best quality available, along with a single steel arrow and a leveled quantity of magical arrows (up to 6 or 8 depending on level, with a 75% chance per arrow) starting at level 3. He also carries around a leveled blunt weapon of the best quality, that may be enchanted, starting at 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9.

He also carries two strong potions of Healing (75% chance per bottle) and a guaranteed strong poison of Illness. He knows a leveled major Bound Armor spell and a leveled major Alteration spell (always strongest for the Chosen's skill level), but won't be able to cast them due to a bug.

Boethia mentions that the Dunmer are his favorite race in Tamriel before the player enters combat with this one; yet he claims that since he is fair, he won't influence the fight.

The Chosen High Elf

This Chosen One is a female Altmer. She wears a monk robe along with a pair of lower-class shoes. She is armed with a leveled blunt weapon that is always unenchanted and of the highest quality and starting at level 5 she will also use a leveled staff (up to Greater/Special variety) as a secondary weapon. She has 75% chance per potion of carrying a total of one potions of sorcery, a strong potions of Sorcery (also 75% chance per bottle) and up to 5 strong potions of Healing (also 75% chance per bottle). She is able to cast the standard set of Necromancer spells (always strongest for the Chosen's skill level).

The Chosen Imperial

This Chosen One is a male Imperial. He is clad in a leveled heavy cuirass and boots that are always unenchanted and of the highest quality available, along with a pair of lower-class pants. He may also carry up to four strong potions of Healing (75% chance each), one strong potions of Sorcery (also 75% chance), a weak poison of Paralysis and a strong poison of Illness.

He is armed with a leveled blunt weapon of the highest quality, always unenchanted. However, his melee attacks are somewhat underpowered since his Blunt skill remains at Novice level, even at very high player levels, due to his Marauder Mage class. His Blade skill on the other hand will be quite high, becoming Expert at player level 46. Therefore, should you disarm him, make sure he does not pick up a bladed weapon.

In addition, he possesses a leveled set of spells from all the magical schools: major for all six plus an extra minor Destruction spells, always strongest for the Chosen's skill level. However, due to a bug, he will only ever be able to cast his Alteration, Conjuration, Illusion and Mysticism spells from level 26 onwards.

This Chosen One is a female Nord. She wears leveled heavy boots along with a leveled heavy shield, a pair of lower-class pants and, starting at level 3, she also wears a guaranteed enchanted leveled heavy cuirass (all armor always of the best quality available). She wields a leveled long blade (longsword/claymore) of the best quality that may be enchanted, starting at 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9. The Chosen Orc

This Chosen One is a female Orc. She is clad in a leveled set of heavy armor that includes boots, cuirass and helmet that are always unenchanted and of the best quality available, along with a pair of lower-class pants. She also has 75% chance per potion of carrying a total of two strong potions of Healing, a guaranteed strong potion of Reflection and a guaranteed strong poison of Illness.

In combat she relies on a leveled two-handed weapon of the highest quality that may be enchanted, starting at 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9. While she may carry either a blunt or bladed weapon, she will be a more formidable opponent with the latter, as her Marauder class means she only has Blade as a major skill.

The Chosen Wood Elf

This Chosen One is a male Bosmer. He is clad in a leveled unenchanted light cuirass and boots along with a pair of lower-class pants. Starting at level 3 he will be armed with a guaranteed leveled enchanted bow of the best quality available, along with a leveled quantity of magical arrows (up to 6 or 8 depending on level, with 75% chance per arrow) starting at level 3, a single steel arrow, and a leveled blunt weapon of the highest quality. The latter that may be enchanted, starting at 25% chance from level 3, rising to 40% from level 6 and to 50% from level 9. He also carries two guaranteed weak potions of Healing and two guaranteed strong poisons of Illness.

Bugs[edit]

  • The Argonian Chosen has something of a mismatch between her skills and spells. As a result of her Marauder Archer class, she does not have either Destruction or Illusion as major skills. Due to this and the NPC skill leveling mechanism, she is only be able to cast Novice-level spells, even at higher levels. Since all spells in the Destruction and Chameleon leveled lists are at least Apprentice-level, she can never cast any of these.
  • With the Shivering Isles DLC installed, the Zealot Wizard class completely overwrites the Bandit Wizard class. This has two unfortunate effects for the Breton Chosen of not making Illusion a major skill anymore, and turns the major Blunt skill into a major Blade skill.
  • The Dunmer Chosen also has something of a mismatch between his skills and spells. As a result of his Bandit Archer class, he does not have either Alteration or Conjuration as major skills. Due to this and the NPC skill leveling mechanism, he is only be able to cast Novice-level spells, even at higher levels. Since all spells in the Alteration and Bound Armor leveled lists are at least Apprentice-level, he can never cast these.
  • The Imperial Chosen has a more severe mismatch between his skills and spells. As a result of his Marauder Mage class, he only has Destruction and Restoration as major skills. Due to this and the NPC skill leveling mechanism, he is only be able to cast Apprentice-level spells for all other magical schools from level 26. Since all spells in the other magical schools leveled lists are at least Apprentice-level, he can never cast these before then.
