The Hollow becomes the player's property after the Deepscorn Hollow quest is completed. It is added by the Vile Lair official mod.
Upgrades
The following upgrades may be purchased from Rowley Eardwulf at the Wawnet Inn.
More details are available on the Oblivion Houses page.
Note: Rowley Eardwulf may not have the upgrades available when he is supposed to. See Bugs.
Bedroom Area
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: Desk with various Ingredients, an amazing Coffin bed an ultimate for Vampire types.
Once you purchase the Bedroom Area upgrade, a desk will be added to a corner of the bedroom with a set of novice level alchemy equipment and a few ingredients. The most notable of the ingredients is a harvested Nirnroot sample (not a plant). This sample will respawn every three days, and is therefore the only respawning source of Nirnroot in the game. This provides an easy, yet slow, way to get enough Nirnroot to complete the Seeking Your Roots quest.
Cattle Cell
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: A prison cell with an unwakable captive always ready for Vampire feedings, can be healed when "tapped" out.
This is a prison cell for vampires to dine whenever they please without having to leave the lair or wait for a victim to sleep. Inside the cell is a prisoner locked in an eternal slumber; he cannot be awoken by any means available, so feel free to use his life's energy for your own. He is marked as an essential NPC, so he cannot die. Because he is essential, this prisoner can also be used as a method for training various skills, including Blade, Sneak, Destruction, etc.
Dark Minion
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: A Vampire Minion that can be sent out to murder, bringing back the victim's items for you and adding one infamy point.
Once you buy the appropriate upgrade, a Dark Minion will appear in your lair. He can be found within his cave-like room. There, you may find him sleeping vampire style, or practicing on the punching bag. He is an artist, and uses a human rib-cage as a bloody paint palette. For a canvas, he uses someone else's beautiful work and defiles it with his bloody ink. You may also find him within the dining area. At any point you can command him to kill in the name of Sithis. If you do, he will disappear and return at midnight two days later. You will only be notified of his return if you are in Deepscorn Hollow, at which point you will be informed whether or not he succeeded (see Bugs if he does not reappear). He always has a 25% chance of failure. If he succeeds:
-
- You will receive one infamy point.
- Random loot is added to the Victims Loot Chest (leveled gold, 25% chance jewelry, 10% magic armor, 10% magic weapon, 25% unenchanted weapon, 10% soul gem, 25% lock pick, 25% potion, 25% poison). This loot can be left to accumulate if you wish: it does not get replaced each time the Minion returns.
Dining Area
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: Table with food and cupboards, some better lighting.
Garden Receipt
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: Main room flourishes as The Garden of Venomgrowth, contains strong poisonous ingredients including the new Chokeberry Vine.
You now have an indoor garden of venomous plants, where just about any ingredient needed to make a poison grows. Specifically, you will find:
Storage Area
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: Various chests, crates, etc. including the incredibly useful Greywyn's Poison Supply chest.
Study Area
- Base Cost: 1750
- Description: Desk and bookshelves, two new and many rare Skill books.
The study upgrade provides two new books, the Manifesto Cyrodiil Vampyrum and Opusculus Lamae Bal ta Mezzamortie. You will also obtain five skill books: Sithis (Alteration), Immortal Blood (Hand to Hand), Rislav the Righteous (Light Armor), The Gold Ribbon of Merit (Marksman), and Sacred Witness (Sneak).
Ichor of Sithis
- Base Cost: 3000
- Description: Potion necessary to activate the Shrine of Sithis.
This is just like the chapel shrines famous (good) players can pray at for blessings of the nine, except this one caters strictly to infamous (evil) players and won't work for the good. Finally the infamous player may heal, neutralize curses, and be cured of disease.
-
- 6 Nightshade flowers are floating above the water at its base
- To activate the Shrine, you must obtain the Ichor of Sithis
- The shrine requires that your Infamy must exceed your Fame. Characters with a higher (or equal) fame will be prompted to "Recant your honorable nature and you shall be rewarded!"
- Much like chapel altars, you may only use the Shrine once per day.
- The blessing you receive depends on your level of infamy:
- If you have completed the Thieves Guild quest line and have the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, donning the cowl will give you instant infamy of 100 allowing the highest level of blessing.
| Infamy | Blessing | Effects | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-20 | Call of Sithis | Restore All Attributes 100pts, Restore Health 200pts, Cure Disease, Fortify Health 10pts | 900 secs |
| 21-50 | Scream of Sithis | Restore All Attributes 100pts, Restore Health 200pts, Cure Disease, Fortify Health 15pts, Fortify Agility 2pts, Fortify Sneak 5pts | 900 secs |
| 51-90 | Lament of Sithis | Restore All Attributes 100pts, Restore Health 200pts, Cure Disease, Fortify Health 20pts, Fortify Agility 5pts, Fortify Sneak 10pts | 1000 secs |
| 90+ | Death Knell of Sithis | Restore All Attributes 100pts, Restore Health 200pts, Cure Disease, Fortify Health 25pts, Fortify Agility 10pts, Fortify Sneak 20pts, Chameleon 50% | 1200 secs |
Features
Font of Renewal
The Font of Renewal a pool of water that houses a shrine where a player may purge him or herself of Vampirism using the new Purgeblood Salts mined from the nearby vein formations. No upgrades are necessary to use this font.
If you use the Font of Renewal, you can take the Vampire Cure quest without being a vampire!
Hard to Find Items
Scattered around Deepscorn are Greywyn's Jewelry Caches containing a large amount of leveled miscellaneous jewelry and gold. These are available as soon as you enter Deepscorn Hollow (no upgrades need to be purchased)
- Greywyn's First Cache is located in the left handside corner of the first room you enter (behind the garden).
- Greywyn's Second Cache rests beside the Font of Renewal under the water.
- Greywyn's Third Cache is located in the corner of the Cattle Cage that holds the feeding body near the Cell Door. (If you have not yet purchased the Cattle Cage upgrade, this location is in the cave-like room on the west side of Deepscorn Cloister, hidden against the wall south of the entryway).
- Greywyn's Final Cache is behind a glowing blue rock on the left side of the Shrine to Sithis area. This one cache will contain a random, leveled enchanted ring or necklace.
High above the first room (where the Garden of Venomgrowth is eventually placed) there is a bucket filled with gold. If you shoot it, the gold will fall to the ground. This is mostly for the novelty value of seeing all the gold come out, because you will have to pick each piece up individually.
- As long as you don't pick up the gold the bucket resets and you can shoot it again and again.
Located on top of the Shrine to Sithis is an "Unusual Box" that contains yet another unique leveled item, the Crimson Eviscerator. This box, and the sword, are present when you first enter Deepscorn Hollow.
Immediately to your left when entering the first room is the storage area. Once you purchase the Storage Area upgrade, you will find Greywyn's Poison Supply hidden in the back of this room. This is a chest filled initially with a dozen or more poisons of various useful varieties.
- This chest can also be used as a storage container. For example, using the ingredients from the nearby Garden of Venomgrowth you can make quite powerful poisons even at low Alchemy levels. This chest is a good place to store your most wicked concoctions separate from your healthier ones.
- There are three scattered jewelry boxes that contain some jewelry (possibly enchanted) and possibly some potions.
Once you purchase all the upgrades for Deepscorn Hollow you are rewarded with a special item. The Deepscorn Bedroom gets a special piece of furniture called Greywyn's Armoire next to the Coffin Bed.
- Inside you will find the leveled Raiment of the Crimson Scar which is basically an upgraded version of the Dark Brotherhood's Shrouded Armor.
New Items
See Deepscorn Hollow Items for a list of items added by the Vile Lair mod.
Bugs
- Some users experience an issue in which the Dark Minion disappears on a mission to kill somebody and never reappears. (no official patch for PC, and no patch as of yet for home consoles) This may be caused by the Minion's scripting; the player needs to be near where he left for the scripting to resume processing. If your Minion has disappeared, go to where the trapdoor ladder is and he may return.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Official Mods Patch.
- If you cast a paralyze spell on the cattle in the cell, he will stand up after the duration of the spell but will not lay back down again. It is impossible to feed on him while he is standing up, and you still cannot talk to him.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Official Mods Patch.
