Contents

This page is where glitches that belong on the main Glitches article but are not yet included in the main article can be posted. Glitches of appropriate quality to belong on the main article will be transferred there; other glitches will remain here so that other editors can clean them up and improve them to the point where it is possible to transfer them to the main article. Entries that are left here unimproved for too long will be archived at Oblivion_talk:Glitches. If you believe you have a new glitch, read the guidelines below to make sure your entry qualifies. If it does, then add your glitch by clicking on the section link [+] above.

[edit] Guidelines

The following are guidelines for adding glitches. Please adhere to these before submitting a glitch:

  • Entries must describe a glitch, i.e., some type of game malfunction that results from normal play.
    • Therefore, all glitches must meet all of the following criteria:
      • Be a mistake in the game mechanics. Any event that is a logical consequence of an intended game feature (even if the consequence is extreme) is not a mistake.
      • Not be triggered by using the console, cheating, or another glitch. The source of the problem in such a situation is the console command, or the original glitch; the developers cannot be held responsible for the consequences of events that they clearly did not add into gameplay.
      • Not be caused by third-party mods. Such glitches should reported to the person who developed the mod, not here.
      • Be reproducible. If after reloading a save game the problem does not recur, then the problem is not a reproducible glitch. Or if the problem is specific to a single save game, and does not happen to anyone else, it is not a reproducible glitch. If there's any chance the problem is caused by a bad sector on your hard drive, defective computer memory, or a power surge then it's not a game glitch.
    • In addition, all glitches must meet at least one of the following criteria:
      • Crash the game, or somehow make it impossible to continue playing the game (unavoidable death, frozen in a cutscene, game enters an unbreakable loop, etc.)
      • Make it impossible to complete a quest. However, such glitches generally do not belong the main glitches page (see "Entries must belong on the main Glitches article" below).
      • Cause a permanent change to game data. For example, glitches that reproduce items, provide unlimited amounts of gold, or permanently change your character's attributes.
      • Be a common problem. For any minor game anomalies to belong on the article, they must be problems that most players encounter while playing the game and must be anomalies that most players will recognize as a mistake in the game.
    • Examples of problems that do not qualify as glitches are:
      • Items that are reproduced as a consequence of standard game features. For example, the Skull of Corruption is a standard game feature that reproduces a character and all of his/her belongings, therefore obtaining duplicate items using the Skull of Corruption is not a glitch. Similarly, other exploits that are based on standard game features, not mistakes in the game engine, do not belong here.
      • Unexpected animation or physics that only occurs if a player does a specific sequence of unusual actions; such anomalies will not be encountered by players as part of regular gameplay.
      • Minor problems that have been fixed by an official patch do not belong on the article. Since most players have installed the official patches, any pre-patch problems are by definition no longer common problems. Furthermore, any non-minor problems that are significant enough to still be documented on the article must clearly state that the problem has been fixed by a patch (for example, using by using an appropriate template).
  • Entries must belong on the main Glitches article. The main glitches article is only supposed to provide information on general glitches: ones where the source of the glitch is not clear, or that can be encountered under a variety of conditions.
    • In particular, glitches specific to a single quest belong on the quest page. The only quest-specific glitches that belong on the main glitches article are ones which make it impossible to continue the game (i.e., players need forewarning about a serious problem) or glitches which are not obviously attributable to a quest (i.e., players are more likely to look for information on the Glitches article than on the quest article). Even in such cases, the main glitch description (causes, workarounds, fixes) belongs on the quest page. Only a brief summary and link to the quest page belongs on the Glitches article.
    • Similarly, glitches specific to a single location or a single NPC belong on the appropriate location page or NPC page.
  • Entries must be useful for other readers. The entire purpose of UESPWiki is to help other readers; all entries must address the site's audience and take into account the needs and interests of other people who use the site.
    • The entry must try to describe what causes the glitch. Just saying, for example, "the game crashed" is not enough. Some attempt must be made to explain what caused it or how the glitch can be reproduced. Adding solutions or workarounds (other than "reload an earlier save") will further provide constructive information that will help players. Entries that just tell a story about what happened to you are not relevant to other readers and do not belong on the site..
    • The topic of the entry must identify the glitch at a glance. Titles of sections should be concise yet clearly identify the topic of the glitch. "Goof or a sign?" or "Raindrops keep falling on my head" are examples of poor titles.
    • Entries should use good grammar and proper spelling. Readers should not have to struggle to decode illegible sentences, and should not have to guess at the intended meaning. If the site's patrollers can't understand an entry, it will be deleted.
    • Both console and PC glitches belong on this page. There is no need to document the platform on which the glitch occurred, because almost all glitches are common to all plaforms. The fact that you're on a PC, Xbox 360, or PS3 is only relevant if there is clear evidence that the glitch is platform-specific. However, possible remedies may need to be separated into console and PC sections.

[edit] Endless 'Raising Tumbler' Sound

In the tutorial area, there is an average-level locked chest in one of the rooms, the only average chest in the entire tutorial. There appears to be a glitch triggered by picking this one, and seems to happen most often if you break all of your lockpicks trying to pick it. This glitch causes the squeaky sound of a rising tumbler to be played endlessly and constantly, until you either finish the tutorial, or save and reload. While annoying, it is not serious and can be fixed by saving the game, then reloading.

[edit] Continued Jump

To do this simply jump then quickly draw your weapon; this will enable you to walk for a few seconds at the height of your jump. This can be repeated as many times as you want and can be used to reach places a little out of your jumpng range; horizontally not vertically.

[edit] Repairable Item Downgrade Glitch

To do this glitch you must have a stack of at least 2 items of the same type that have the same item health, and a stack of at least 1 item of the same type that has a lower item health. The lower health stack must have fewer items and these must be the only 2 stacks of said item in your inventory. I found this glitch with a stack of 84 (cheating involved) health 125 Glass Daggers and a stack of 2 health 100 Glass Daggers. Go into your inventory, highlight the stack with higher health and drop it and then pick them up again. All but one of them will have reduced in health to the health of the other stack and been stacked with them.

This is very useful when trying to increase your armorer skill. Get any number of identical items at the same health, repair them until they are maxed out in health then use this glitch to reduce their health and repair them again. It is important to remember to leave at least 1 of the lower health items in your inventory while doing this.

[edit] Float in Midair Glitch

Get arrested while swimming, pay the fine and when your released you'll be swimming in the air. Very funny and a combat advantage, although sidewalks will often return you to walking.

[edit] Two light Armour items

A very minor glitch - (about level 15+ with the ability to repair to 125 - may be a factor) - light armor items sometimes appear in the inventory as having 2 available - but in fact there is only one. When dropping the item(s) only one is dropped - doesn't appear to caused any item duplication or affect gameplay - it might be affecting my encumbrance though? - This seems to happen mostly with elven Armour - no idea what's specifically causing it - I first noticed when I sold what I thought were a spare pair of elven greaves only to find that I had none remaining. Basically the inventory displays that there are two of a thing but in fact only one is present.83.100.250.197 09:26, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

This has happened to me on the 360 with all sorts of armor not just light, and sometimes it does keep the item and dupe it. I got two saviors hides just but repairing. Also, I managed to get three enchanted madness armors at once and keep them!

If you repair any armor above 100% (i.e. 125) it becomes singled out in groups of one or two, instead of stacks.

For example 9 Iron Helmets at 100% health with show up as 9 Iron helmets. But when repaired to 125% health it becomes 4 groups of 2 Iron Helms and a solo Iron Helm. This way you can sell them individually because they are now a "unique" item.

[edit] Free Recharge and Repair

I'm not sure if this is already mentioned somewhere on this site but I can't find it on the Glitches page...

  1. Get an enchanted weapon that is fully charged and fully repaired.
  2. Duplicate it using the arrow glitch so that you have two of the same weapon. When you pick them up, they should stack in your inventory screen.
  3. Assign a hotkey to the weapons while they are both unequipped. In other words, while they are stacked.
  4. Use the hotkey to equip it. You should now be holding one of the two weapons.
  5. Go hit an enemy, using up one or more charges and getting it slightly damaged.
  6. Press the hotkey to unequip the weapon, then press it again to equip it. Look at your inventory screen and you will see that the weapon is fully recharged and repaired. This won't cost anything.

However, there is a catch: If one or both weapons leave your inventory (whether you drop it, get disarmed, go to jail, put them in a chest etc) and then you pick them up again, the glitch will no longer work. If this happens, a solution is to have just one of the two weapons in your inventory and repeat the above procedure. The glitch should then work again.

Also, the game will freeze if you cast Bound Weapon while one of the weapons is equipped, so remember to unequip before you cast it.

  • Verified, this seems to happen even if you unequip/equip the item while using the inventory screen too (without unequipping anything first) - the important part seems to be assigning it to a hotkey (or binding to a direction on the D-pad on 360). Game freezes as described with bound weapon. Also, I couldn't duplicate them if they didn't stack (e.g. I dropped them as described above, etc) - I had to sell them to a vendor and buy back to duplicate them again... some weapons I have to do this normally (to duplicate). This seems to be tied into the item becoming "unique" versus "generic".

The hotkey was removed when I dropped the item, it behaved like torches - when you drop any with a hotkey assigned to one, the hotkey is removed. Something about the hotkey forces them to stack again?

Most of the time, when the item is damaged (repair) or used (charge), it is placed below the "clean" version on the inventory screen, and when they are forcibly stacked, the clean version's stats (charge 100%, health 100%) overwrite the one that is below it. Interestingly, you can merely change which weapon you have equipped (click the non-highlighted one) and it internally un-equips (and therefore, recharges/fixes) the used one, then equips the other clean one - meaning you can just alternate between two to have an infinite supply with no on-screen delays (meaning you can attack relentlessly). Very peculiar indeed. I guess this means Soul Trap is no longer necessary for Enchanted Permanent-Bound weapons! (0 weight, no drawbacks in having 2! Except the freezing...) -- Guest 20:01, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Sitting on corpses

If you kill someone with a poisoned apple, he can die and remain sat on a chair. But other characters can sit over his corpse afterwards with no problem. (Probably it is possible for player to sit over as well. I failed, because chair symbol did not appear -- only loot symbol). Screenshot.--Oblivarine

No, its not possible to sit on the person. If you have ever put an item on a chair and sat on it, it flies away. The same happens to the person except that they only fall of in the direction they are least on the chair.

If you look at the screenshot, it's obvious that this person is sitting on a dead body. Also, Oblivarine didn't ask a question, so why are you trying to answer it?
Actually, they aren't sitting on it, they're sitting IN it, they're just in different positions, one being dead and all.

Sorry! Failed to see the big obvious blue message saying SCREENSHOT... also, I didn't mean to answer a question but it came out that way. + I was forgetting to look at the How to edit a page so I was being a bit jerk-like and stupid. However I still stand by my though that you can't sit on an item however, whenever I sit on a chair with certain people such as Alav Uvani, they always fly away. Once again, sorry for being a jerk about it! (Really Really Really sorry!!!!!)Drake3555 23:04, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Endless 'you cannot__ while guards are pursuing you'

Thanks to UESP wiki, I found a fix for this glitch that doesn't involve committing some sort of crime. Use the console ~, and type "swdp" (without ""). This should list a group of people currently detecting you. Whoever isnt physically present, whatever city guard, (ie Imperial Watch), is who you want to find, and talk to. So if its an Imperial City guard, ride a horse there(if you left already, as I sometimes tend to do), or if its an Anvil guard, etc.

Often when you get there they will run up to you, as if to confront you, but the result will be the same as if you started a conversation. For this reason, if you commit a crime in, say Imperial City, its often a good idea to get rid of the bounty while still there, and talk to a guard afterwards. To test if you still have the issue, try to wait. Usually this fix works for me... someone should really write a patch that sets some key to break their detection of you or figure out the console commands, etc.

I'm in the Imperial City, and I've just paid off my bounty with the guy on the waterfront. However whenever I see a guard I instantly get a bounty of 40 without doing anything! It acts like I'm wearing the grey cowl in that they don't give me a chance to go to prison/resist arrest/pay bounty - but it can't be that as my fine is only 40 instead of the cowl's 500...
It also now states that enemies are ALWAYS nearby - wherever I go, there is no safe place in the whole world (so I can't fast travel, wait, sleep or repair anything either!)
Edit: using the "swdp" console command as above (under "Endless 'you cannot__ while guards are pursuing you'") shows it is indeed the imperial watch that can see me wherever I go - but as they give me no chance to get rid of my bounty other than dying it's pointless! I tried paying off that next set of 40 bounty I get as well, but any time they see me from then on I instantly get it back!
Edit #2: I have discovered a fix if anyone else experiences this; you have to find a guard who can see you (to get the new 40 bounty) and then use the following console command: "player.payfine" (without quotes.)After this you'll lose any stolen items as if you were arrested, please see the guide to console commands for more information!
Edit #3: You can fix this on a PS3/360 by comiting another crime then paying the fine.

[edit] Oblivion loading glitch

I've been playing Oblivion (Not GOTY) for little under 450 hours and only just a few weeks ago it began crashing every time I started entering dungeons and ruins so my initial thought was to blame it on the Firmware (I was using 1.93 at the time) so I updated to 2.01 and I thought the problem had cleared up but Lindai and Bawn were still crashing on the loading screen for me and yesterday I bought Oblivion GOTY and it was all going well until I reached Retaking The Fringe and got into the room at the bottom where Shelden was hiding and it crashes after I disable the Obelisk and whenever the game autosaved from then on out, I started a new character to see if it was my game or my save etc. and all the ruins loaded for me, so it appears to be my save, has anyone else had this problem? And can you help me resolve this? I really don't want to start again but I will if I have to.

I had a tendency to horde things which I think my of caused this, so I sold around 75% of my things off and its still persisting, so help?

I have also run into this problem. it seems that from the time you actually enter the "fringe", the game cannot be saved. It just locks right up. I don't have an answer on how to fix it. Anyone out there that can help.....please do!!!!

I emailed bethesda and they tell me that it could be a corrupted game save. i loaded a previous save and it did the same thing. I emailed them back and they told me to delete the game data and reload the game. I did that and the same thing happened. I tried not saving the game during this part of the quest and the same thing happened as soon as i got to the bottom room and deactivated the obelisk. The game tries to autosave and locks right up. I tried exiting the shivering isles portion and returned to imperial city to rest. as soon as I tried to save it locked right up.

I also have this same problem... If anybody has recovered from this, the information would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you try emptying the cache in your hard drive (for 360 and PS3) by holding down the A button (360) as the game is loading

I had a similar problem to this when trying to kill umbra and then get out the ruin i had a idea that to many people were following me 5 everscamps and 1 adoring fan so i loaded a old save and got rid of them and it worked fine so if an ones following you tell them to beat it or what ever and it will work again worked for me any way . P.S. this was on ps3.

The Everscamps will cause the game to crash sooner or later when you try to autosave.

[edit] House glitch

When in my house(Cheydinhal)I used my remote manupulation spell to move a varla stone onto a shelf, and then the game crashed.

can embute weapons n armor with sidul stones but when the game crashes every 4 hours the embuted items disappear. My sword got a touch on mancar cameron north of cheydinhal and couldnt attack him in his palace, defeted him with reflective jewlery. In the shivering isles the fella who makes ya amber gear always says (now is not the time 4 buisness). When charicter gets 2 around level 30+ savegames dont reload. oh, and the official web sight is crap, awsome game but 2 unstable, dont think ill buy the next 1, mabey a similar game by different developers.

[edit] Shooting Arrows Glitch

When you pull back the arrow, you see the front of the bow, but your hand and the arrow disappear from the screen. When you release the arrow, it dodges sharply to the left visibly, but it lands a few feet to the right of where you had the cross-hair aimed.

I first had it happen at the beginning of the game when you're shooting at the bucket with your first bow and arrow set. It doesn't seem to have a trigger, it just seems to happen. Eventually it goes away, by shooting numerous arrows or equipping a new bow, but it's really frustrating all the same. I've seen it happen at any point in the game and I'm still trying to determine the exact cause. It happens in the Game of the Year edition, which probably means there's not a corrective patch yet. I'm not sure if it also happens on the PC or if it's XBox 360 exclusive.

  • Happens to me all the time and I intentionally don't have the updates, just for reference
  • It happened to me After the latest patch.
  • Happens to me every once in a while, no obvious trigger. Using Game of the Year Edition, Xbox 360, unpatched.
  • Happens to me if im wearing a robe in the Waterfront. On the Xbox with SI installed.

[edit] Animation Bug

This glitch occurs after prolonged gaming. The animation for magic, fire, leavers, switches and doors freeze. (Or progress VERY slowly) Aside from the annoyance of having frozen spell effects blocking your view, this glitch prevents any further progress, as doors within a cell will not swing open. Reloading a saved game from before the glitch occurs does not seem to help, the glitch will reoccur like clockwork. If the most recent save file was an hour before the glitch occurred, it will reoccur in an hour. It does not seem to matter where the player is, what they are doing, or what quests are active. If anyone knows how to fix or get around this glitch (I'm playing on an Xbox 360) Please post. (This glitch is mentioned in the archives of this site already, but the link provided no longer links to a page.)

This is a well-known bug, but a fix only exists for the PC, the link for which can be found here.
In this Fighter's Guild Quest, when you enter the ayleid ruin of Sedor, the floor button that is supposed to open the gate to the passage above doesn't work sometimes. If you then fortify your acrobatics and jump up to the bridge, the button that opens the other gate to get the stone will not work either, making the quest, and the whole guild quest line impossible to finish. I do not know of any way to fix this one.
During the "Ultimate Heist" quest after pressing the switch that should open the large movable wall it would not budge as it should and stopping any further progress.
Also there have been similar problems with the "Corpse Mashers" in an Oblivion gate by the run aground ship for the "Forlorn Watchman" quest, while at first they were functioning they stopped working with the "Ascension Call" levers or activating the "Corpse Masher" itself.
NOTE: This was done on the PC version without any patches or tampering what-so-ever.
i have had the same problem. You can bypass this by using the boots of springheel jack to jump around the FRONT SIDE of the bridge after walking on the small edges near the moving walls. from here you can continue your quest as usual.

[edit] Alternative methods for Perma-Cloning, glitch uses

I saw some other methods that could be used to clone, some with advantages (and others with drawbacks) not mentioned in the current "Glitches" entry. This glitch (while fun) hardly calls for it's own page, but it might be nice to mention the alternate methods to do this in one place. Also, a mention of what the glitch can enable (obtaining Emperor's Robes, The Gray Aegis, quest items, permanent/well equipped corpse for Staff of Worms, etc) would be excellent for consolidation purposes. Not sure where to put in the request for such a consolidation, though.

  • Unarmed/Sleeping NPC - pickpocket their weapons (Camp Walker example from Talk:Skull of Corruption) (temporary)
  • 100% Spell Reflect on Target (Mentioned in Glitches/Proposed, possibly patched/fixed) (perma or temp)
  • Summon Dremora and disintegrate their weapon (I came up with this, doesn't require any place in particular to execute) - drawback is Skull will disappear unless you disintegrate/disarm the staff before summon vanishes. (perma or temp)
What the Skull can enable you to do is not actually related to perma-cloning, and should be mentioned on the item's pages. The other methods of cloning are possible, but they are difficult.
Unarmed/Sleeping NPC: Since you have to exit the cell that was used for the cloning, this would be hard just to find the right NPC. You can clone yourself on anybody, but finding the right area to do it in would be difficult. You cannot do this in houses or other peaceful areas, as the NPC won't pick up the Skull. You will have to find a sleeping Bandit in a cave, which is a lot harder than it sounds.
100% Spell Reflect: When the Skull hits someone, it runs a check to make sure that the person it is cloning does not possess the Skull. The only effect of this is that Corruption cannot be reflected. Well, almost. If you drop the Skull before it hits your 100% reflect patsy, you will be cloned, but that requires a lot of distance between you and them, which is nearly impossible unless you use paralyze to ensure that they do not move. Also, this requires quite high Mysticism to do, whereas the the current trick merely requires high stealth or moderate level Illusion.
Summon Dremora: As you mentioned, this trick is dangerous to do. You run the risk of losing the Skull forever, and that is quite bad. But it is quite convenient if you can pull it off.
The reason the current trick is there is because, while it does take some difficulty to set up, it is the easiest method to do once you clear the cave. In my opinion, the other methods are much harder to do. I will add the 100% reflect method, just because it is quite easy if you are highly skilled in Mysticism and Illusion, easier than the trick that is currently up there. I will also add what rare items (emporer's robes, Grey Aegis, Necromancer's Amulet, etc.) the Skull duplication glitch can get you.

[edit] Inventory bug

A friend of mine and I have had way too much fun with this bug, but oddly enough there’s no mention of it here. Since I’m not much of an editor I might as well post it here just to confirm the bug exists on more than just two systems.

The bug is fairly simple. When you’re viewing the inventory of a merchant, and press the up arrow key, you can purchase the item at the top of the list. However, if you do this when there’s no item to select, the AI will hand over everything in their inventory, from their keys to their money to their clothes. You will *not* get any of the items they have for sale, you only get what you’d get for killing and stripping the AI.

There is a lot of fun to be had with this bug. For starters, it works both ways. If you have an empty category of *your* inventory activated, and press the up arrow key, you’ll wind up naked, defenseless, and penniless, and your intended victim will wind up with every item in your inventory. It can be quite amusing to hand over a few hundred thousand gold coins, plus your enchanted Daedric armor, to a beggar!

The bug also works when pick pocketing AIs, though you may very well be caught in the process, as taking those items counts as stealing, and will show up as stolen goods in your inventory. You can hand over your entire inventory to a beggar, get the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal when you first meet the Gray Fox, steal Daedric armor and meet your Thieves Guild stolen goods requirements without breaking a sweat, get the Honorblade of Chorrol back, so on and so forth.

To test this bug it’s easiest to use a merchant who deals solely with one type of goods. If, for example, you visit someone who sells alchemy equipment only, and select the weapon category of their inventory, there won’t be anything there. Press the up arrow key, and he’ll give you every item in his inventory, and be left wandering around naked for the rest of the game. It can cause problems with merchants being unable to enter their locked private quarters, but seeing the Feed Bag when the merchants come there after work when every merchant is buck naked is absolutely priceless.

Does this work on 360?

What does up arrow key do on the PC? If it's the action button, it does not work on the 360.

[edit] Feather increases weight of items permanently

If you really overdose on the feather potions to carry a bunch of loot back to the merchant, then sell the stuff while feathered, you will permanently increase the weight of your items once the potions wear off and be unable to move. This doesn't happen all the time but I've seen similar posts on other boards.

[edit] Flaming weapon glitch

simply enchant a ring at any enchanting altar with disintegrate weapon 5 points on self constant effect.

It deals 5 points of damage to the weapons health and then stops but the weapon continues to have the disintegrate weapon effect play around it. Basically the sword looks like its on fire, an effect not seen since the morrowind tribunal exspansion.

the effect will stop when you quicktravel, but unequiping and requiping the ring will start it back up again.

the effect also works with disintegrate armour and other negative effects causing interesting effects with no continued damage to the player.

done on a 360

[edit] Audio Torch Glitch

When dropping very many torches at once, a whole building or environment can be tainted with the noise of very loud burning torches. To remove the incessant cacophony, try to remove all torches from the area to diminish the noise. If the noise persists, leave the area and come back. If the noise remains Drop a smaller bunch of torches and retake them.

This also works with sigil stones

[edit] Guards Teleport Non-Glitch

Even if you are in an area that guards cannot reach, either via the tcl or the floating paintbrushes glitch, the guards may teleport in the air or directly where you are to confront you, even if there is no way to possibly reach you. --Darkheart 16:02, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

[edit] Take Items from NPCs without killing or pickpocketing

First, you need to have a Paralysis on touch spell or Paralysis on target spell. If you paralyse an NPC (this includes cizitens of the various towns, and all NPC enemies you encounter in dungeons), you are still given the option to talk to the NPC in question. However, when you attempt conversation, you are taken into the target's inventory where you can loot any items from them that are not equipped. Should you wish to take any items that are equipped it is still necessary to kill them. Also note that if you paralyse a non-hostile NPC to access their inventory, you are liable for an assault charge. I have tested this and it works on any humanoid NPCs, including Dremora. It will not work on creatures or general wildlife.

Edit: after further testing, it appears that sometimes it does not work on non-hostile NPCs, and when you try to activate them, it brings up a message saying "*NPC name* is fleeing." It appears to work every time on hostile NPCs.

  • I'm pretty sure that it counts as pickpocketing and you get a bounty for stealing while the tiem is flagged as stolen. Plus, I don't believe this is a glitch, I think it was intended.--Darkheart 13:21, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

[edit] NPCs caught in between cells

If the player is walks through a door as the NPC is walking through it, the NPC will not reappear in the game until the cell is re-entered, allowing the NPC to completely make it outside. This is particularly an annoyance during quests where you have to follow someone who keeps walking through doors.

Is this ever mentioned or not? --Darkheart 12:07, 4 June 2009 (EDT)

[edit] Equipping Items After Removal From Inventory

Normally, when items are removed from your inventory (eg going to jail) they are unable to be equipped for the simple reason that they are not there. However, if you have an item hot-keyed before the items are removed from the inventory, you can still use the hot-key when in jail. This makes the item suddenly appear in your inventory, equipped, and can give the player a significant advantage whilst playing the game, especially if the hot-keyed item is a powerful weapon. The only disadvantage to this is the fact that it only works for hot-keyable items.

PS: I did this on a 360

--Cybernetic cheese 15:12, 4 June 2009 (EDT)

This doesn't work on a PC as far as I can tell. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 15:24, 4 June 2009 (EDT)

Yes it does! Last night playing the "Through a Nightmare Darkly" quest (or something like that... the quest in mage the guild in Bravil) on a PC I had the sword Umbra in slot 1. When inside Dreamworld all items are removed, but pressing 1 "activated" Umbra and it was subsequently back in my inventory throughout Dreamworld. I think the catch is that the hot-keyed item must be a quest item (like Umbra). Normally you can't drop/sell/stash quest items, which I think is the cause of the glitch. I also had an enchanted Daedric bow (not a quest item) in slot two and this did NOT appear in Dreamworld when I pressed 2. I tried because I am a bow specialist and was really hoping the bow would be there, but no luck.

[edit] Endless supply of Steel Arrows

I'm a bit new to this Glitches thing, but just thought I would mention an interesting glitch (provided by User: 68.13.196.56) some time ago as a note on Honditar's page. In his shack outside of Chorrol, there's six steel arrows lying on the floor. If you pick them up and keep clicking them in your inventory, they will multiply. I verified this glitch, and stopped verifying when I reached 600 steel arrows. I don't know if there's similar glitches around, but just thought I would mention it here, just in case - as it definately doesn't belong on the NPC page. Krusty 14:50, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

Confirmed on 360, and the additional arrows don't appear to encumber you. (I got like 400 and shot 50 or so before believing it.) Seems to be a nice way to train, if you start running low just clone some more. 70.18.177.195 20:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Getting items from fallen Arena combatants

For this, you must have the Skull of corruption and the staff of worms. It seems like any normal duplication glitch, but has a little more plot to it. There are two fights in the Arena where enchanted items are used, but not obtainable. These include Shimmerstrike and The Gray Aegis. When starting the fight in which your opponent has Shimmerstrike, merely corrupt him with the skull of corruption. You will not have to save upon killing the corrupt clone. Merely dispatching both the clone AND enemy will cause them both to drop the enchanted dagger, one obtainable, the other not. The Gray Aegis provides a little more trickery, including a lot of health, a (preferably)Heavy Raiment, and both the Skull of Corruption and the staff of worms. Since corrupting your opponent won't work with the Skull (due to The Gray Aegis' 100% resist magic enchantment), And since he later drops it when defeated (therefore resurrecting him and cloning him won't put the shield in his inventory), merely sit back and let him hack away with his sword. Healing potions or spells are highly advisable, as it often takes a while. Once his sword is broken, he will put away his shield, allowing you to dispatch him, resurrect him using the staff (Or Risen Flesh if you have SI), corrupt him using the skull, kill the clone, saving at the moment the clone is killed. Load your recently made save, pressing the action button until his inventory opens up. There, not only do you have a shield resistant of magic worth 15000 gold, but also a yellow team light raiment.

[edit] "Riding in mid-air"

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but it looks like a glitch.

After coming out of the gate leading to the Shivering Isles, my horse (Prior Maborel's paint horse) was waiting for me. i got on the horse and it was in the 1st person view, so I changed it to 3rd person view and my guy was in the position that he would normaly be in but above the horse. it went back to normal again went i turned to the left or right but when moving forward i remained above the horse. So i got on the internet to write this. when I got up to the part of naming the horse, i got off and checked, but when i got back on he was in a different position. I was on the horse and able to ride it, but my guy was standing up instead so my legs went through the horse and my arms were at his side motionless. This is the first time this has happened to me, but i think it has something to do with th island that the "A Strange Door" (as it is refered to on the map)is located.

If it is some thing to do with the plug-ins i have GOTY edition for Xbox 360, Shivering isles, Knights of the nine, frostcrag spire, dunburrow cove, Deepscorn hollow and battlehorn castle.

If anyone has any ideas of why or how this happened please tell me in the comments. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MetalGod97 (talkcontribs) on 23:28, 25 July 2009 (UTC).

[edit] Dead NPC look crucified, dead creatures standing

In Shivering Isles and Oblivion, sometimes dead NPC's bodies are seen upright with hand outstretched causing a very creepy tablaeu. Same thing may happen to dead creatures like Spriggans and Wild boars

[edit] infinant iron arrows/bounty glitch

If you go to the settlement of hackdirt you will find a store named moglins dry goods. go inside and search the chest behind the merchant. inside you will find some useful things including sevral iron arrows. to activate the glich take out the iron arrows and replace them. afterwords you can take the arrows as many times as you want and they wont dissapier, much like the gold dorian carrys. also you can put more arrows in and the glich will still work. though there is a bug where the system gets overloaded and all of the iron arrows in your inventory and in the chest dissapier

NOTE: the items are not flaggged as stolen but you will et a bounty for evry one you take so be careful when using this glich because it ggives you a massive bounty that you are unable to pay even if you have the money.

NOTE2:if you complete the quest A Shadow Over Hackdirt and end up killing the merchant, your bounty will not go up unless someone else is in the store, which is unlikley because during the quest all npcs that live in hackdirt are suppost to go hostile on sight leaving you little choice but to attack or run away in which case they are still hostile apon return

[edit] priest of order in tamirel and not hostile.

i went to jail and when i got out a priest of order was walking around in bruma i followed him around he kept sayng hi or leave me alone or ill kill u bitch then when ikilled him his body gave me a eletric schock then i left him and went to the si gate and he was there with a staff out hes still there but i cant kill him even though theres no christals around. what should i do.

[edit] Wall Climb

This glitch is best recreated in Anvil. Start facing the gates that lead into Anvil Castle, from here make a right turn and run around the castle walls until you reach the second smaller watchtower of the castle, use your map to find it. From here try and jump directly "onto" the tower, I did this with a Acrobatic of 289 (done using the quest item duplication glitch with the boots of springheel jack) at this point you should "stick" to the tower wall. Now here is where it gets tricky, while sticking to the wall, (with whatever console you're using, I did it on a PS3) use the directional keys, stick whatever it is that makes your character move, and gently move it side to side while technically telling your character to move forward so that they're always running into the wall. This, if you look carefully, should cause your character to start "jumping up" the wall of the tower, the increase will be small but with enough patience you'll notice it, just keep wrapping your character in a slow but steady semi circle around the tower. After enough time has passed your character should be well up the tower by now, from here you can drop down onto a side platform much those at the top of city wall and regain your footing. From here jump either directly into the tower wall again or jump onto the ledge and then jump into the tower walls, once your character sticks to the wall again, don't forget to use the camera angle button/ stick to to keep your character's face always looking into the wall and the rotate them slightly so their shoulders alternate facing into the wall (this will give your character a diagonal rinsing motion necessary for this glitch to work). On the tower wall now wrap your character around the entire tower until you come to a straight wall brick building next to the round tower, edge your character as gently as possible (even if the lose a little bit of height) onto this straight wall so they stick to this new wall, from here just do the same as mentioned before and use the "Continued Jump" glitch to edge your way up the wall again, from here you can either keep going up the wall, or you can bring your character around so they fall in the countess's little outdoor balcony thing that goes into the "royal quarters". With your acrobatics being high enough to have gotten here in the first place you can now jump onto the top of the columns around here and onto the rest of the castle rooftops. This may take a few tries but it is possible and I'll try putting up a good enough quality photo of my Emperor onto of Castle Anvil's roof as evidence. I did it on my 3rd try but I've been "Assassin's Creeding" Oblivion for quite a while. This glitch is also an epic way to murder the countess and count for the assassin type person because you're basically climbing over the castle wall and into the bedchambers of the countess. Please feel free to add in any links for names of items, cities etc that I might have forgotten, I'm not quite used to it. [1]

[edit] Weird Journal Glitch

Bring up your journal. Now open the repair hammers. Press exit then tab twice very fast. You should see your character as if the journal is up, but no journal. Press tab to exit the minor glitch. Xbox: Bring up repair hammers, and press B 3 times. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Obliviouscat99 (talkcontribs) on 6 August 2009.

This seems like a very minor graphical glitch, which is only caused if one does it on purpose. I don't feel it needs to be mentioned on the glitches article. --Timenn-<talk> 07:46, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Stop Yourself From Drowning

Well, I wouldn't call it as much Infinite Water Breathing as I would a Way to Stop Yourself from drowning. While swimming underwater and in the middle of drowning, you can hit the Wait button, wait any amount of time, and regain lost health to stop yourself from Drowning.

Add to main article? --Darkheart 02:29, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's worthy of a mention on the main article, as I doubt its usefulness. You can probably only swim for about 2 seconds before your health drops to zero again, so you will have to wait again and again, while not getting anywhere quick. If it would refill your breath-bar it might be useful, but not with this. Wolok gro-Baroktalkcontributionsemail• 15:51, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Using a scroll without spending it

I stumbled upon this while messing around with the scroll duplication glitch and, when finished, stashing the scrolls without selecting other magic first. I noticed the magic effect from the scroll was still listed, even though the scroll was no longer in my inventory. I decided to test if using it while the scroll was in the container would destroy the scroll and found this exploit. Simply select a scroll and then stash it in a container(any container at all should work but just dropping the scroll does not). The magic it uses will remain selected, and you will get one free use of said effect, even if you do not know the spell. The scroll will remain in the container and will be able to be retrieved to be used in this way again. I've tested this on a patched PC version with almost all of the DLC as well as SI installed, and a few mods that should not be affecting the use of scrolls at all, as they are mostly cosmetic or add a few items/creatures. So I do not think it is a mod causing this. It could be a useful glitch for non-magic users, although it may be a little clumsy in use since you get only one shot each time. I have tested this on a chest and two barrels, both with items in them and without; it all worked the same. Griffinsong 16:52, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] unable to join the dark brotherhood

okay, while in the tutorial i took pleasure in repeatedly knockin out captin renauld but later i ended up killing her. at the time i just laughed about it but now i realize that screwed up the game, because at the corner of the screen it said your killing has been observed by forces unknown, and because at the end of the tutorial the slate is wiped clean with you losing yor bouty, infamy, and all quests, i lost the ability to join the dark brotherhood. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sdharly (talkcontribs) on 17 August 2009.

Why do you conclude that? Have you tried sleeping so Lucien can contact you? --Timenn-<talk> 12:21, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes i tried that as well as killing almost evryone in bruma but he will not show up

[edit] stuck in house after completing dreamworld

Question moved to Oblivion talk:The Siren's Deception.

[edit] Sancor Tor Blood of the Divine Glitch

When I enter Sancor Tor my screen goes black. If I reload a previous save where I am outside Sancor Tor and then enter Sancor Tor, it still goes black.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.26.131.9 (talkcontribs) on 01:27, 22 August 2009 (UTC).

[edit] stuck in journal glitch

if you open your journal just as a cutscene starts you will be unable to close the journal due to the fact that a cutscene stops your buttons from having an effect and your journal freezes time, so you will need to load back to another save or youre stuck like that. Also, my 8 year old brother managed to do that in the tutourial so i cant imagin its too hard.

[edit] theives guild Misdirection glitch

If at the end of the quest, the daedra can't reach hieronymous lex to give him the note, for example if it was walking into a wall like it did for me, you are stuck. Forever. Annoying. No known fixes and very bad, perhaps bad enough to add to main article?

Simply enter the console command enableplayercontrols and you should regain control of your character.
Never encountered this glitch before. On top of that, such glitches should be discussed on Oblivion:Misdirection. --Darkheart 16:04, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] game crashes on exit

exiting some places will make the game crash to a black screen this may also happen with entering places —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.235.97.54 (talkcontribs) on 21 September 2009..

This falls in the category of: The game crashes occassionally. Without some kind of cause or solution this is not helpful. --Timenn-<talk> 13:30, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Barter list of Norbert Lelles in Anvil missing

I need help with Norbert Lelles' bartering list which is missing. It was not there since the beginning. But even before that, I would not even be EVER able to enter his shop; it would be always locked. The icon for door behind the house also would be red colored. After I read UESP, I entered Norbert's house in daytime from the back and came out from the front door. Since then I have been able to enter from the front door in daytime.

I have completed his thieves' quest, but the list is still not there. Does someone have a similar problem and/or know a cure? Please post here.

Thanks

[edit] Armor stands as if on stand and cannot be picked up (360)

I was walking around the gilded carafe in the IC and i dropped a dwarven cuirass and a paint brush or 2 and the cuirass didnt fall to the ground, instead it was standing as if it was on a stand and i couldnt pick it up anymore after it dropped... if any1 could confirm it or tell me why that happened that would be great —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timi919 (talkcontribs) on 5 October 2009.

There is no fix, you will have to reload a savegame where you didn't drop that particular Cuirass. It's not all Dwarven Cuirasses that suffer this problem, only the enchanted Cuirass of Battle (see the bug note there). --Timenn-<talk> 15:41, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Its probally due to thefact you drop the paint brshes with it at the same time so that means the brushes are some how fused to the cuirass thus making it float not sure about the reason you cant pick it up

No that is not true. The reason for this particular behaviour is because a model for this particular Cuirass is not set properly. All apparel items use two model types. One for when you are wearing the item, and one for when you place it on the ground. The second type is incorrect for this cuirass, and thus it acts so strangely when placed on the ground. You can still wear the cuirass without problems. --Timenn-<talk> 13:40, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] "Arena combatants may not loot the copses of thier fallen opponents!"

For those of you who are familliar with the "Uderfrykte Matron" (a troll) or the quest that does not appear in your journal "The Horror of Dive Rock", you will learn about the death of Svenja and Agnar. At dive rock you will find Agnar's journal. Look off the peak of dive rock and look left. You will see a lonesome tree. travel to the tree and you will encounter the "Uderfrykte Matron". If you don't look about the place until the battlemusic comes on. When you encounter the "Uderfrykte Matron" it will attack you. once you kill it you will find an enchanted bow and Svenja's body parts. Near where you encounter the "Uderfrykte Matron" you will find Agnar's dead body. He is wearing full fur. when you go to pick up his fur helmet on the ground next to him, it will say...

"Arena combatants may not loot he corpses of thier fallen opponents!" as if you were in the arena trying to loot your opponents body.

[edit] Go Ghost Yourself

When going to do the Dark Brotherhood quest Affairs of a Wizard on the xbox360, I was being attacked by goblins near an ayleid well. Shadowmere was attacking the goblins and i jumped on the well and was shooting arrows at them, I activated the well and started shooting fireballs then jumped off the well and activated Shadowmere while still in the air. I clicked 3rd person and I wasn't on the horse but I was riding it. I went to Leafrot Cave and my body was outside the door floating like he was on a horse when i got off the horse he acted like he was getting off a horse. I then shot a fireball at him and he shot one at the door instead of me shooting him. I equiped different things and it would show them on my character. I reloaded my last save, repeated, and it did it again, and I still don't understand why it does that.

[edit] zombie arrest glicth

after beating the game when you are arrested ,a zombie migth appear after your let go.

[edit] Arena Glitch

When you're in the arena jump on the spikes nearest to the blue teams entrance and continue jumping until you are next to the wiwes(?). There is a collumn that you can stand on there where the enemy can't hit you. This is an advantageous ranged combat spot. Use arrows or target magic to hit your enemy, unless they have ranged attacks too. Then it defeats the purpose.

hope this help's.

[edit] Too Many Ingredient Glitch

It is possible to place too many different ingredients into a container, causing the game to crash when the player tries to save the game, or when the player leaves a cell and causes the game to auto save. The crash is caused by overloading the limited number of item slots for a container. The only way to avoid the error is to split the ingredients between different containers.
