This is a heavily-edited article and it is not always possible to ensure changes are of the highest quality. Please bear this in mind when relying on information contained herein.
For more information, please see this article's talk page.

To prevent inaccuracy and poor content from being put on the main article, this page has been set up so that editors can preview each other's work before it is included. Read the guidelines below, then add your glitch by clicking on the section link [+] above. An experienced editor who has the ability to edit the main article will read over your entry and either include it in our article or remove it from the page, briefly explaining why in their edit summary.

The following are guidelines for adding glitches. Please adhere to these before submitting a glitch:

  1. Entries must describe a glitch, i.e., some type of game malfunction that results from normal play. Obscure or exploitable game features do not belong here.
  2. Glitches that are caused by console commands or other forms of cheating are not glitches. (Cheating is not part of normal gameplay; furthermore, there are an infinite number of ways to cause glitches using console commands.)
  3. You must try to describe what cause the glitch. Just saying, for example, "the game crashed" is not enough. Some attempt must be made to explain what caused it or how the glitch can be reproduced.
  4. Quest-specific glitches should primarily be described on the appropriate quest page. The entry on the glitches page should only provide a brief description of the problem, and then provide a link to the quest page. All details on how to fix the glitch belong on the quest page.
  5. Both xbox and PC glitches belong on this page. There is no need to document the platform on which the glitch occurred, unless there is evidence that the glitch is platform-specific. On the other hand, possible remedies may need to be separated into xbox and PC sections.
  6. For glitches that have been fixed by the patch, only major glitches (i.e., exploitable or problematic ones) belong on the page. The glitch needs to clearly identify that it has been fixed in the patch, preferably by implementing a template as discussed elsewhere on this talk page.
  7. The topic of a section must help identify the glitch at a glance. Titles of sections should be concise yet clearly identify the topic of the glitch. "Goof or a sign?" or "Raindrops keep falling on my head" are examples of poor titles.
  8. Good grammar is GREATLY appreciated.----

[edit] Repairable Item Downgrade Glitch

To do this glitch you must have a stack of at least 2 items of the same type that have the same item health, and a stack of at least 1 item of the same type that has a lower item health. The lower health stack must have fewer items and these must be the only 2 stacks of said item in your inventory. I found this glitch with a stack of 84 (cheating involved) health 125 Glass Daggers and a stack of 2 health 100 Glass Daggers. Go into your inventory, highlight the stack with higher health and drop it and then pick them up again. All but one of them will have reduced in health to the health of the other stack and been stacked with them.

This is very useful when trying to increase your armorer skill. Get any number of identical items at the same health, repair them until they are maxed out in health then use this glitch to reduce their health and repair them again. It is important to remember to leave at least 1 of the lower health items in your inventory while doing this.

[edit] Test End.Game Glich

I came across this glich on my first copy of Oblivion for Xbox 360. The first problem was that the town, Chorrol, had no buildings: only floating doors. One time, when i entered a building, it placed me inside a castle (can't rememebr which), and when i turned to walk out , the game told me 'press x to go to Test EndGame.' So i went through and found myself in a bright room (could have been outdoors) with two people in the middle. I never got in the room again , and traded my game in afterwards. If anybody has the PC version could they try and use a short cut to get to Test EndGame room (there may have been a dot between end and game)?

[edit] Permanently Paralyzed Dead Creatures and NPCs

This glitch will cause a dead creature or NPC to be stuck in a paralyzed state instead of a ragdoll state. In order to do this, you will need to be able to paralyze a target as well as damage a target's fatigue to below zero. First, damage the target's fatigue until they drop to the ground in a ragdoll state. This means that their fatigue is below zero. When the target starts to stand up, damage the target's fatigue with an effect that happens over time, then quickly paralyze the target. A longer paralyze effect is more useful in this case. The target's fatigue must drop below zero while the target is paralyzed. If done properly, the target will remain paralyzed for as long as its fatigue is below zero. If you kill the target during this time, it will remain permanently paralyzed. Then you can enjoy bouncing the dead paralyzed body around with an area effect spell.

Just to let you know, that glitch occurs whenever you kill and paralyze a creature or NPC at the same time. Say you have Master skill level of Blade, and you're holding a non-enchanted sword. You attack a someone/thing with a foward power attack, it gets paralyzed and dies on the same hit, it has the same effect.

[edit] Invisibilty Glitch-Movement

I cast an invisibility spell as i went into a fort for a DB quest and i couldnt move, cast spells, or go back through the door. on active effects it had invisibility but no duration. i dont usually use invisibility but i think theres supposed to be something there.also, my guy wasnt invisible.i have figured out that drinking a bunch of strong pot of dispels will make the effect go away.[PC Version]-adam-november 16 2007

I have actually experienced the same thing after killing Mannimarco. I sometimes use the spell just before entering a door so that I dont get detected. I didnt have any Dispel potions all I could do was move the camera.--Crazydax 03:30, 12 February 2008 (EST)

Check the Glitches page I believe there is a solution there...or just don't cast an invisibility spell when you walk through a door, wait until you get through.Puddle 13:02, 26 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Doomstone Freeze

When activating a conjuration doomstone the game will freeze if you are wearing certain Daedric armor pieces. This has been tested wearing boots + greaves + plate and I will test more soon.

  • I think it freezes if you are wearing Daedric Armor of the same type, because you usually can't unequip Conjured Armor. But I think weapons are okay.

[edit] Dropping item turn into stolen

When I was in the Imperial Palace I dropped one of a potion which I had five of, and it turned into a stolen item. I tried again with arrows, ingredients and Welkynd Stones. All appeared stolen (red cursor). For example, I was duplicating garlic at one time while in Calandil's shop and some of it got marked like that.

This is only a guess but I think your item may be getting its ownership claimed by the owner of the building,I'll test it and report what I find.Puddle 13:04, 26 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Removing the stolen flag on items

Go to a mage's guild hall that you have joined and then drop the stolen items. Go outside and wait for a couple of hours and the get your items. they should be legitimate unless an NPC picked them up.

This may work for Fighters Guild or Dark Brotherhood.

[edit] Remain inside the Arcane University when kicked out

When you're in the practice rooms of the Arcane University. There are various mages' training. I summoned a Dremora, and it fell in the cross-fire from one of the mages'.

The Dremora killed the mage, and one of the Battle Mages give me the update of being kicked out. I was supposed to go to jail, but i spawned outside the Practice Room. I was caged in.

The doors were off-limits. And entering them was trespassing. The main gates were locked, and needed a key to be opened. And the Arch-Mage lobby door was locked by key aswell. The only way out is to pickpocket the key from a Battle Mage, or a higher ranked Mage.

  • Commiting a crime, such as theft works aswell.
  • Another strange glitch follows up aswell, trying to re-enter the Arcane University requires a task. Usually the task is collecting 20 of that kind. The glitch is that you're supposed to get either 20 Daedra Hearts or 20 Vampire dusts (Not always Daedra Hearts or Vampire Dusts, but this time it is) . This glitch gives you the task of getting both 20 Daedra Hearts and 20 Vampire Dusts.
  • As mentioned before, commiting a crime is an way out of this glitch. You'll respawn at the Imperial Prison this time.

--NJ Taylor 14:57, 2 February 2007 (EST)

  • I solved this by fast-travelling, any destiantion outside the arcane university should do. For the record, I was thrown out after starting a genocide in the AU courtyard. Preceeding comment added by Bongo 06:51, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
  • I found a few paintbrushes and 'hovered' my way out of the Arcane university.

[edit] Reflect Damage + Wraiths

Anyone else notice this? When wielding Reflect Damage equipment, if a Wraith-type monster hits you and kills itself, its death animation will not play correctly. You can loot the Ectoplasm off the 'corpse' but it will still look alive, floating in the air and all. Scared me to death more than once, while running around in a dungeon I just cleaned... it works with all Wraith-types, including Faded, Gloom and the ones on the Anvil ship. Ergo 19:02, 9 February 2007 (EST)

Yes - seen this too.
Yeah, this glitch seems to occur after killing a wraith and during its death animation it lands on an object. There seems to be no way of preventing thin short of killing it away from objects. This affects ghosts as well, only they end up with a floating puddle. PS This thing has scared me as well, especially when I was sneaking around and heard deep breathing...ugh.76.19.63.36 19:02, 16 June 2007 (EDT)

yeah happened to me to i didn't think it was dead at first and went crazy swinging my sword everywhere not realizing i had killed it aren't wraiths scary? on my first dark brotherhood wraith i got such a fright and hopelessy swung my sword everywhere luckily the inn owner ran to my rescue! dagger in hand:)and with Lucien lachance i nearly had a heart attack :)Ratchetclan4 12:18, 24 July 2007 (EDT)

I get this as well but just stab it again and the wraith does the normal animation. Once, I think in Sancre Tor I killed like 3 in the same vicinity, moved on, and when I came back saw them all floating there without a life detect marker. I thought they had become immortal or something and ran in there swords ablaze hoping for the best. Obviously, I was confronted by the annoying scream animation.

Similar thing happened to me with a storm atronach. I killed it, then saw it still standing there. The best bit was that I was able to pick the individual stones off, and chuck them into the lava. Great fun :) Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:59, 6 March 2008 (EST)

[edit] Chapels Fail to Cure Disease

This is one I would have to reinstall Oblivion to even attempt to reproduce. My character contracted Astral Vapors from a zombie and visiting the chapel in Anvil failed to cure it. Now, for every character created on the system no chapel or wayshrine will cure any disease whatsoever. They all still have all of their other healing effects. The game was unpatched and no mods were installed at the time this began, but it has since been patched with 1.1.511 to no effect.

-To fix this glitch, delete the oblivion folder from your memory. That means it and every save, and download off of your hard drive. Then, go back and patch the game and start anew.

[edit] More Sigil Stones.

In the Oblivion Gates, when you are at the Sigil stone, continually activate the Sigil stone. The first stone should be placed in your inventory, however, if you keep activating it, another sigil stone will respawn and you get to take that one as well. Normally you only get two per gate, because the warp from taking the first Sigil stone will still be taking place. After you leave, you should have two sigil stones in your inventory, and they are not direct copies either, they both can have different attributes. Warning: you can do this trick with the Great Sigil Stone as well, you will then have two Great Sigil Stones, however, since it is a quest Item, you won't be able to drop or sell it.

This trick will only work with Quest Related Sigil Stones; ie. when closing an oblivion gate is part of the quest (Kvatch, Allies for Bruma etc.).

[edit] The Wobbling Paintbrush Jar

This glitch doesn't require anything specific other than a paintbrush jar (stolen or legit). Simply drop it out of your inventory then grab and throw. No matter how it lands it will wobble indefinitely.

-This has been verified on all editions (XBOX360, PC, and PS3)

-This may be due to the shape, since it is similar to the shape of a recently discovered object that cannot be knocked down.

[edit] Minion list glitch

I think this glitch hit for me while doing the Fighter's Guild quest The Unfortunate Shopkeeper. While inside the shop waiting for the burglars, my Dark Brotherhood minion was killed. After the quest, I found myself unable to recruit a new DB minion. Also, when I returned to Lelles' shop, the supposedly dead minion was standing there, but did not give me the option to tell him to follow me. Even after I killed him, I still wasn't able to get a new Murderer. Fast-forward 75-100 hours of play time and now I get a message in the notification area at the top-left of the screen that says I have too many followers. So far this hasn't made anything that follows me vanish yet, but the prospect of suddenly losing Shadowmere or my awesome skinned hound is a touch unnerving. In addition, I tend to get the message more often when I go the Chestnut Handy Stables and put my cursor over (but do not steal) the horses there.

[edit] Float in Midair Glitch

This glitch lets you (obviously) float in midair.Note that its not flying, but you gain a slight advantage over enemies because you are higher then them.To do this glitch you have to accept the Dark Brotherhood quest "Permanent Retirement".Go to the lake in the city were you have to assassinate the target.Hit the target(i forgot his name) with a sword when he still has his armor on..don't let him arrest you. Immideatly run in the middle of the pond so you are swimming. When you get arrested, pay the fine.Everything will be normal (you get respawned in front of the castle) now except that you will see you will be doing the swimming motion while in midair!so you can move anywhere you can while walking while being a little above head level of the other people.I haven't tested this throughly so i don't know how to get rid of it or if there are any negative effects...good luck! update theres one negative effect is that you go slower then normal and to get rid of it ethire put your weapon away or pull it out

This also works as a master of acrobatics. When hopping around on water and coming to a slope of land you keep floating in the jump position. On PS3 I confront this quite often. At the waterfront, as stated above if you sheath/unsheath your weapon you begin doing the swimming animation (I spent about an hour swimming around Amusei). Also works at the Cheydinhal River, Mouth of the Panther, and for me, virtually everywhere else where water meets land.

[edit] Two light Armour items

A very minor glitch - (about level 15+ with the ability to repair to 125 - may be a factor) - light armour items sometimes appear in the inventory as having 2 available - but in fact there is only one. When dropping the item(s) only one is dropped - doesn't appear to caused any item duplication or affect gameplay - it might be affecting my encumbrance though? - This seems to happen mostly with elven Armour - no idea what's specifically causing it - I first noticed when I sold what I thought were a spare pair of elven greaves only to find that I had none remaining. Basically the inventory displays that there are two of a thing but in fact only one is present.83.100.250.197 09:26, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

This has happened to me on the 360 with all sorts of armor not just light, and sometimes it does keep the item and dupe it. I got two saviors hides just but repairing. Also, I managed t oget three enchanted madness armors at once and keep them!

[edit] Free Recharge and Repair

I'm not sure if this is already mentioned somewhere on this site but I can't find it on the Glitches page...

  1. Get an enchanted weapon that is fully charged and fully repaired.
  2. Duplicate it using the arrow glitch so that you have two of the same weapon. When you pick them up, they should stack in your inventory screen.
  3. Assign a hotkey to the weapons while they are both unequipped. In other words, while they are stacked.
  4. Use the hotkey to equip it. You should now be holding one of the two weapons.
  5. Go hit an enemy, using up one or more charges and getting it slightly damaged.
  6. Press the hotkey to unequip the weapon, then press it again to equip it. Look at your inventory screen and you will see that the weapon is fully recharged and repaired. This won't cost anything.

However, there is a catch: If one or both weapons leave your inventory (whether you drop it, get disarmed, go to jail, put them in a chest etc) and then you pick them up again, the glitch will no longer work. If this happens, a solution is to have just one of the two weapons in your inventory and repeat the above procedure. The glitch should then work again.

Also, the game will freeze if you cast Bound Weapon while one of the weapons is equipped, so remember to unequip before you cast it.

[edit] Legalize Stolen Clothing

I just noticed this recently, and I've tested it successfully with Russet Felt Shoes, Beggar's Shirt, various clothing items from crates, enchanted and non. Strangely enough it also works with Fur Helmets:

If you have a stolen clothing item, drop it and you make be able to pick it up again without the stolen flag. All three of the cases I've mentioned were simple unenchanted clothing and I simply dropped it. When I moved the cursor over them again it said "take" not "steal" said items. I don't know if it works with many other types of items, it does NOT work with potions ingredients. This was done with clothing that was already on the ground/on shelves etc, I don't know if it works with items stolen from crates or chests. UPDATED: I've now tried it with jewelery and Armour, it didn't work, but it did work for clothing stolen from a crate : / UPDATED: It worked with the Black Hand Robes from J'ghasta's locked keg in Bruma. It seems to work for all clothing, as long as no one is watching. I've tried clothing from various stores, houses and crates successfully.

[edit] Ruffio frozen in mid-air

When you do the first quest in the dark brotherhood go and talk to ruffio; tell him you are going to kill him. As soon as he starts running ( he should be by the door), hit him with your blade, ruffio should freeze in the doorway in a weird stance. (XBOX 360 version)

[edit] Floating Guard

When running away from a guard and swimming through the water, sometimes the guard will disappear. If you go back to the spot where the guard was posted, you will see him swimming in mid-air, along with another guard standing next to him.

[edit] Stone of St Alessia Glitch

In this Fighter's Guild Quest, when you enter the ayleid ruin of Sedor, the floor button that is supposed to open the gate to the passage above doesn't work sometimes. If you then fortify your acrobatics and jump up to the bridge, the button that opens the other gate to get the stone will not work either, making the quest, and the whole guild quest line impossible to finish. I do not know of any way to fix this one.

[edit] Missing Raminus Polus

I had a bounty put on my head, so as instructed by this guide, I ran into the arcane university to let the mages kill the guards. Raminus wasn't faring well in the fight and was knocked unconscious several times. He now no longer appears in the mage lobby and I can't continue the Mage Guild quests without him to advance my rank. Any help?

DavidMRichards@comcast.net

I had a similar problem! I was resting in a bed when randomly out of nowhere my screen said Raminus has been knocked unconscious. I just thought it was weird as I was not anywhere near the university! Anyways next time I went to the university he was gone! No Raminus Polus anywhere now and like you I can't continue on because Traven says to see Polus about advancement before next quest.... Argh anyone had similar? Know how to fix?

Aaron R.

Yes. This will happen if any Essential character is knocked unconcios(sorry about spelling) when you are not in their Block of area ( in this case, the Arcane University). I am not sure how they get in fights as generally, most essentials are not fighting monsters daily like some people I know...

  • Please notice that AI have 24 hour scripts. Even if your not in the same cell as the actor, this is why charactors still go about their routine even if your in another cell. Several glitches, like a minor theft caused by a single AI (And this has accoured with City-Swimmer in Bravil) Causes guards to pursue, thus rendering the actor deceased. Sometimes, and this usually happens, citizens interfear with some guard pursuits. This has happened to me before, where Quill-weave who resides in Cheydenhal. (I believe) Sometimes this happens to Jaufree when he patrols in Cloud Ruler Temple, though I'm not sure how, as very few beasts tend to move there, if any. But a theory is that the two training blades accidentally attack a blade that happens to walking by, causing a fight to break out. Other than that, I have no idea.

[edit] Man found in container

Once i found Maglir in a container (After i killed him in the fighters guild mission). I dropped him and he appeared in front of me and i could talk to him! Later i found Alval Uvanni in a loot bag and i couldn't drop him because he was a 'quest item'. I have found more people in containers, and a certain pattern is that they all seem to be people i've killed before.--Willyhead 11:38, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

Do you have a screenshot of this? It sounds hilarious, and I have no idea how that would even happen. --TheRayven 05:31, 21 July 2007 (EDT)
Unfortunately not, but if you are familiar with YouTube- the video website, i saw a video on that entitled 'Oblivion unique bug:there is a necromancer in my chest' the person that made this had the same glitch as me exept with a necromancer and vampire--Willyhead 13:22, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

This was probably done with a modding kit. I saw the video.

I would have agreed with you... except for the fact that I'm playing on the 360 version.--Willyhead 09:37, 15 February 2008 (EST)

Was it in a loot bag? They tend to have some strange crap in 'em.

  • I agree with the poster above me. Loot bags do have alot of random... crap inside of them. Besides, where else do you think body's "decay" to?

[edit] Dark Brotherhood Murderer is not completely invisible

As Listener of Dark Brotherhood, you can recruit guys as DB Murderers and ask them to follow you, remaining hidden. It works perfectly: Murderer uses some kine of chameleon spell and is invisible. Strangely enough, in Bravil the head of Murderer becomes becomes visible, while the rest remains invisible.Screenshot.--Oblivarine

[edit] Sitting on corpses

If you kill someone with a poisoned apple, he can die and remain sat on a chair. But other characters can sit over his corpse afterwards with no problem. (Probably it is possible for player to sit over as well. I failed, because chair symbol did not appear -- only loot symbol). Screenshot.--Oblivarine

No, its not possible to sit on the person. If you have ever put an item on a chair and sat on it, it flies away. The same happens to the person except that they only fall of in the direction they are least on the chair.

If you look at the screenshot, it's obvious that this person is sitting on a dead body. Also, Oblivarine didn't ask a question, so why are you trying to answer it?

[edit] Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild quests mixing up

I am yet to see any information on the glitch I have experienced in my game so mabey someone can help me. I completed all the dark brotherhood quests and have moved onto the thieves guild quests. My glitch has occured about two, thirds of the way through the quest taking care of Lex. When I enter the Imperial legion commander's office to put the commander's seal on my newly forged recommendation there is no seal in the commanders chest. Instead if I open the desk beside the chest the severed finger oh Adamus Phillida from the quest permanent retirement still remains there. If I remove the finger or place it back in the desk I get quest updates from permanent retirement, one saying I have aquired Phillida's finger, the other saying I placed it in the desk. I have tried many different ways to get around this glitch but am yet to see that seal. Please help.

The seal is on the desk, not inside it. You're probably right about the quest update being a glitch though. It sounds similar to other problems people have had with quest updates being received at incorrect times. --RpehTalk 08:00, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Levers not working

-During the "Ultimate Heist" quest after pressing the switch that should open the large movable wall it would not budge as it should and stopping any further progress. -Also there have been similar problems with the "Corpse Mashers" in an Oblivion gate by the run aground ship for the "Forlorn Watchman" quest, while at first they were functioning they stopped working with the "Ascension Call" levers or activating the "Corpse Masher" itself.

NOTE: This was done on the PC version without any patches or tampering what-so-ever.

It sounds like you might have the animation bug. See Oblivion Animation Fixer for more information. --NepheleTalk 16:45, 8 August 2007 (EDT)

- i have had the same problem. You can bypass this by using the boots of springheel jack to jump around the FRONT SIDE of the bridge after walking on the small edges near the moving walls. from here you can continue your quest as usual.

[edit] Own a room for the rest of your life! 10 septims,

Go to Cheydinhall. Now go to the Newfounders Lodge. Buy a room for the night. BUT next night you will find out that when you ask to rent a room again, she only says, But you already rented a room for the night. She will keep saying it, night after night, and you have a room for enternity, for only 10 septims.

[edit] Clarified Rules for Permanent Enchantments

(from "Permanent Effects from Quest Items")

The same glitch will occur with any enchanted item if you use one of the duplication glitches. First, duplicate two identical copies of the enchanted item. Equip one, then try to duplicate the non-equipped one. The duplication will forcibly remove the equipped copy of the item, too, and you will be left with the item's enchantment as a permanent effect. In order to maintain this effect, next equip an item that does not use any of the enchanted item's equipment slots. An example would be to gain the permanent enchantment from a ring and then equip a shield, "sealing the deal" on the enchantment. On the other hand, gaining a permanent enchantment from an outfit and then equipping greaves will undo the permanent enchantment. This can be done with multiple different enchanted items, as long as each item has a different name.

However, if you wish to correct this glitch yourself follow these guidelines (PC version, must have construction set installed): 1. Identify the item in question. The best way is to record the bonuses it gives you. (Example: Ring of the Vipereye - Fort AGI 6, Magic Resist 8%) 2. Open the CS and find your item and note the ID. (Example: RotV = Items->Clothing->Ring->MS12RingVipereye05 [FormID 0006B654]) 3. Note what's in the "Enchanting" window. (Example: MS12EnAppVipereye02) 4. Go to Magic->Enchantment->MS12EnAppVipereye02 and note the ID. (Example: 0006B64F) 5. Close the CS, start Oblivion and load your game. 6. Open the console (~ key) and type SetQuestObject FormID 0. Use the FormID you noted for the object (i.e. 0006B654). This will make it no longer quest essential and removeable. 7. Now type player.Dispel MagicID. Use the MagicID you noted for the enchantment (i.e. 0006B64F). This will remove the "permenant" bonus. 8. Reequip the now fully functional ring.

[edit] Poisoned Apple Glitch

This glitch allows for a single poisoned apple to wipe out an entire city guard to it is as follows. step one: acquire poisoned apples step two: clear out all the food in a city barracks (tested in Bruma,) step three: place apple in the guards primary food source and clear out all other food from tables ect. step four: before any guard can take the poisoned apple you must leave the barracks and city until the regular food re-spawns in the barracks, which usually happens in about 1 game week. step five: re-enter town to find most all guards have gained the poisoned apple script effect even though only one apple was used.

[edit] Tipped Chair

I the five claws lodge, when doing the fighters' guild quest Drunk and Disorderly, on the right-hand side, (If you're going in from the front, facing forward,) you will see a coupe of tipped-over stools. if you highlight over them, you can sit even though the stool is tipped over. Only confirmed on Xbox360.

Yeah I saw something like this on a run through Goblin Jim's Cave.

Additionally, I once went into the Cheydinhal Mage's Guild on PS3 and everyone was floating in midair, in the chair position behind their chair! Needless to say they were all sitting down at the moment. I could talk to them but couldn't get any services. I don't know what happened but I was buying spells throughout the game (hence going to the Mage's Guild)so that might have done something. The glitch remained for about 3 in game days until they finally got up and went to bed when I came back. The services worked after that. Just minor but I would like to know what happened.

- A similar thing happened to me, upon knocking shadowmere unconcciese i began to do the horse container glitch. but just as i activated him he bagan to get up. I warped into a sidways lay down position and couldnt get off. shadowmere was conciese but in dead position and his tail was swaying!

[edit] Underwater Torch

(This has been tested on the Playstation3 version.) Equip any form of Water Walking. Then equip a torch. Walk on water while looking down. You will swim, but if you take out a weapon or switch to third person, your torch will continue to burn!

Yeah, this works on the 360 too.

[edit] Two Handed Weapons in One Hand

Okay, I found this glitch just recently, after finishing the KotN expansion for the Xbox 360 version. I am unsure if this has been posted, so sorry if it has. So, basically, I had just finished KotN and got Umaril's 2 handed sword, and I equipped it... I also had the full set of relics (beside weapon, but including shield)and I think a torch as well. I used the 2 handed sword to kill a knight, and because it gave me infamy, the shield was unequipped, and the torch equipped in my shield hand. The two handed sword was being held in the other hand, like a normal sword. It didn't affect gameplay though, as when I attacked, it showed the two handed sword animation. I will look into this later.

This happened to me when I used the staff of corruption on a bandit that was wielding a claymore and had an unequipped shield. His clone was using the claymore in one hand and had the shield in the other one. He attacked with the two-handed animation.

This happened to me when I equipped a shield and a claymore on myself (only shows claymore equipped). Then I decided to drop the Staff of Corruption and I attacked an unarmed man. He picked up the staff and cloned me. However like me it had the shield but my clone had the shield on his hand while wielding the claymore.

I would recall this happening to me using a bound claymore and an unequipped ayleid (or elven... whatever) shield. I was facing a mage and he desintigrated my shield. My tortch was equipped and the latter effects were seen.

[edit] Get Ayleid Long Sword or/and Ayleid Mace

On the thieves guild quest "the ultimate heist" it is possible to get an Ayleid Long Sword or/and Ayleid Mace

when at the part of the quest where you have to use Arrow of Extrication to open the door, try and kill the Ayleid guards with their weapon sheathed or in there inventory.

I did this by having full Chameleon(100%) and attacking them the Ayleid guards pulled out their weapon but put it back right away. if you can kill them with weapon sheathed then you can loot the body and get the weapon. if the weapon drops on ground then it crumbles in your hands and is gone

the Ayleid weapons are not that good but both look very cool

sorry for any mistakes in advance

• Confirmed on Xbox 360, using the same method (100% Chameleon, wait until weapon is sheathed)

This has been stated elsewhere I believe... Drake3555 22:58, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Endless 'you cannot__ while guards are pursuing you'

Thanks to UESP wiki, I found a fix for this glitch that doesnt involve commiting some sort of crime. Use the console ~, and type "swdp" (without ""). This should list a group of people currently detecting you. Whoever isnt physically present, whatever city guard, (ie Imperial Watch), is who you want to find, and talk to. So if its an Imperial City guard, ride a horse there(if you left already, as I sometimes tend to do), or if its an Anvil guard, etc.

Often when you get there they will run up to you, as if to confront you, but the result will be the same as if you started a conversation. For this reason, if you commit a crime in, say Imperial City, its often a good idea to get rid of the bounty while still there, and talk to a guard afterwards. To test if you still have the issue, try to wait. Usually this fix works for me... someone should really write a patch that sets some key to break their detection of you or figure out the console commands, etc.

[edit] Free Sparring weapons

I found this glitch out when I was sparring with Shagorl gro-Uzug.

1. Simply spar with him or engage in battle with him and knock him unconsious.

2. Go into sneak mode and wait until you are allowed to pickpocket Shagorl.

3. Try to pickpocket one of his sparring items.

4. If you sucessfully pickpocketed a sparring weapon talk to Shagorl again.

5. Ask Shagorl to sparr with you, but this time choose the weapon you stole.

If done correctly he should respawn another weapon and continue to fight no problem, while you still have the weapon you stole.

Afterwards try going to a Theives Guild member to get rid of the Stolen flag.

Don't know if this is worthwhile but having a no damage weapon could help you sparr with Shagorl more frequently due to him not dying so much.

Note: don't drop the weapon while in the same cell as Shagorl, even when your a fair distance from him he magically reclaims his weapons from the ground.

[edit] Load Screen Crash/Glitch

In Oblivion, immediately after saving over an old file slot I'd been using to preserve my recent exploits (maybe too immediately, in retrospect), I attempted to mount my horse; unfortunately, I was also holding the block button. Rather than comply with the mount, my character remained locked in the short mounting animation's side view of the horse and did not move, but held his shield up. I found that I was stuck here after a few minutes of demoralized button-mashing and screaming. Since this incedent occurred, every time I attempt to load the said file my 360 freezes when the loading bar hits a certain point near what I consider the 80% mark.

This has proven problematic for obvious reasons, and with no recent file I've been too crestfallen to return to the game, which I'd very much like to do.

I don't know that it had anything to do with this glitch, but the horse was Shadowmere, and was wearing recently acquired steel armor.

Help me. Nayrb13@aol.com

[edit] Headless Horseman Glitch

This glitch only happens if you use an invisibility spell on your horse, then get on the horse while it is still invisible, and then get off of it immediately and stay off. Once you get on the horse, you too will become invisible; but not in the normal sense. You won't be see-through like usual...you will be completely gone (along with your horse), even when you get off the horse! (your horse will become visible sooner or later) And the effects won't go away unless you change (or take off and put back on) your clothes/armor/weapons (you can use bound weapons and armor too) (note: body parts will return depending on what kind clothing/armor. So gauntlets make the hands visible, boots/shoes return the feet, and so on. Same thing goes for weapons. So you could be a floating pair of hands or a floating sword!) However, no matter what kind of helmet/hood you put on, your head will stay invisible, and so it looks as though you are headless. This headless effect will stay for the rest of the game unless you you use an invisibility spell on the horse again, get on the horse and stay on until it becomes visible again, and then your head, and any other body parts, will return. You can do this glitch as much as you want.

Note: Neither dispel spells or any other spells will get rid of the effects and you are not considered invisible, so you can still be seen.

[edit] Swimming on Land Glitch

This Doesn't always work but if you are observed committing a crime you can run to the nearest pool or body of water that is deep enough to swim. This must be done before you are confronted. When the guard gives you the choices to run, pay bounty or be arrested you must pick pay bounty. After you have payed the bounty you will find yourself swimming around on land. From time to time it has been possible to get out into the world while still swimming although the system often recognizes its mistake before you can get to a door. If you are lucky enough to accomplish this, though, you are invincible for that time. You can attack with impunity. Remember: It only works the first time you are confronted for that crime and you must be confronted in water.

[edit] Guards On Horseback

I have encountered, when speaking to guards on horseback who carry torches, that their torsos appear to rotate forward, under the horse (clipping though its neck), and back up from behind. All the while their face reamins toward the camera. If you want to see exactly what this looks like, then have a look at the bottom external link on my page under Elder Scrolls Links. --HMSVictory 13:41, 25 November 2007 (EST)

that happened to me, except it was a black horse courier women, i kept talking to her (and getting lots of all couriers) and one time she pivoted around her hip and her head stayed upright Caboose 06:19, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Skip tricky Thieves Guild missions

It is possible to skip missions in the Thieves Guild by killing somebody in the assignments. you have to pay a blood money fine to get back in the guild but if you're having real trouble with an assignments this can be helpful. I think this is a real glitch, but it might just be my game or even 360 (yes, this is on the Xbox 360). I don't think it works on some assignments though. And you also don't get the reward (i.e. money, important items that you want, maybe the Gray cowl).

[edit] Oblivion loading glitch

I've been playing Oblivion (Not GOTY) for little under 450 hours and only just a few weeks ago it began crashing everytime i started entering dungeons and ruins so my initial thought was to blame it on the Firmware (I was usuing 1.93 at the time) so I updated to 2.01 and I thought the problem had cleared up but Lindai and Bawn were still crashing on the loading screen for me and yesterday I bought Oblivion GOTY and it was all going well until I reached Retaking The Fringe and got into the room at the bottom where Shelden was hiding and it crashes after I disable the Obelisk and whenever the game autosaved from then on out, I started a new character to see if it was my game or my save etc. and all the ruins loaded for me, so it appears to be my save, has anyone else had this problem? And can you help me resolve this? I really don't want to start again but I will if I have to.

I had a tendencie to haorde things which I think my of caused this, so I sold around 75% of my things off and its still persisiting, so help?

i have also run into this problem. it seems that from the time you actually enter the "fringe", the game cannot be saved. it just locks right up. i dont have an answer on how to fix it. anyone out there that can help.....please do!!!!

i emailed bethesda and they tell me that it could be a corrupted game save. i loaded a previous save and it did the same thing. i emailed them back and they told me to delete the game data and reload the game. i did that and the same thing happened. i tried not saving the game during this part of the quest and the same thing happend as soon as i got to the bottom room and deactivated the oblisk. the game tries to autosave and locks right up. i tried exiting the shivering isles portion and returned to imperial city to rest. as soon as i tried to save it locked right up.

I also have this same problem... If anybody has recovered from this, the information would be greatly appreciated

Why don't you try emptying the cache in your hard drive (for 360 and PS3) by holding down the A button (360) as the game is loading.

[edit] Strange World In The Sky Above Bruma

When i went to any ayleid ruin on a horse, rode it to a place slightly difficult to access, got off the horse, then tried to get back on, i kept walking forward toward the horse, without getting on. So, to fix this problem, i fast traveled to Bruma. But, i didnt appear in Bruma, intstead appearing in a strange place in the air (i assumed this because the ground looked like the sky) with grassy hills. On the map, it said i was near a daedric shrine(represented by x). So, still in this strange world in the air, i walked to where the shrine was. a message appeared, stating, "you have found x's shrine, but the shrine was no where to be found. Thinking this was interesting, i saved the game, and fast traveled to the imperial city. Later, i went to load that same file, and found that where it tells you where you saved the game, it stated i was in Skingrad, when i was clearly in Bruma, proved by "finding" the shrine. I now call it "Heaven" for it has no enemies, no matter how much you walk around.

This is similar to the Glitched world stated earlier or later... Im not sure whichDrake3555 22:35, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Ushnar's Skinned Hound Glows

It is advised that you become a member of the Mages Guild before attempting this glitch. Complete the quest "Ushnar's Terror" in the Shivering Isles, which gives you Ushnar's Skinned Hound. Then, return to Cyrodiil, and go to the Arcane University. Use one of the portals. As you come out, you will notice that the Skinned Hound glows blue from teleporting; however, the blue glow never fully recedes, and it will continue to glow slightly until you fast-travel somewhere (which resets the Hound).

[edit] How to make anything float

This really cannot be exploited but is notheless fun and cool.

1)throw an abject into the air and go through a door w/o a loading time(usually the room you just where in), before the item falls. 2)pass through another doorway this time it needs to load it first. 3)upon reentering the room with the item in it, it should be suspended where it was when you left the first time

[edit] Ghost child in Skingrad castle (X360)

I was doing my "Vampire Cure" quest when I was waiting for the count to arrive. I had a necklace that gave me "detect life 50 ft" (Talisman of Abetment) when I was walking around. As you know, a life-source will become a purple cloud. Just left of the stairs up to the exit was a purple, small cloud. I investigated and found out that there was no one there, no invisible character where you could speak to. The size really is childlike, even though there are no children in Oblivion (what's up with that btw?) When I went outside and back inside, it was still there. I took some pictures, but i don't know how to post them. E-mail me at Robbert1988@gmail.com to tell me how to post those pictures.

Edit: After I talked with the count, the ghostchild was gone! So if you want to see it, check on it before you talk with the count.

Cool I'll check this later. Btw I think the reason why there are no children is because you could kill them.Bambobo 11:12, 29 January 2008 (EST)

Edit2: Well, here are the pictures. Bad quality, but hey, it was dark ;) Devilpuppet

If anyone sees this happening on the PC version, bring up the console and try to select the character, if nothing happens then forget it but if you can select it type setghost 0.00, then close the console and try to talk to the person, also try casting a dispel on them and see if they become visible. [edit] Shooting Arrows Glitch

When you pull back the arrow, you see the front of the bow, but your hand and the arrow disappear from the screen. When you release the arrow, it dodges sharply to the left visibly, but it lands a few feet to the right of where you had the cross-hair aimed.

I first had it happen at the beginning of the game when you're shooting at the bucket with your first bow and arrow set. It doesn't seem to have a trigger, it just seems to happen. Eventually it goes away, by shooting numerous arrows or equipping a new bow, but it's really frustrating all the same. I've seen it happen at any point in the game and I'm still trying to determine the exact cause. It happens in the Game of the Year edition, which probably means there's not a corrective patch yet. I'm not sure if it also happens on the PC or if it's XBox 360 exclusive.

  • Happens to me all the time and I intentionally dont have the updates, just for reference
  • It happened to me After the latest patch.

[edit] Physics engine hole w/ sword

Sorry if this was posted already, but I did a document search on 'sword' and 'spin'. If you grab a sword in just the right position (just about 2 thirds the way up and off the physical/ visual rendering) and walk in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion w/o accually aiming up down left or right, and then drop the sword while in motion, you can get a sword to spin indefinatly, sometimes even on the tip rather than the handle. Eventually the sword will fall but not for at least a considerable amount of time. Works best with simpler swords(deadric mace versus a silver long sword ex.)

[edit] Greater Blade Skill Glitch

The game has just started doing this to me, and is actually a quite useful glitch. Your attack must land on an enemy for this to work. If you begin to do a foward power attack, and perfectly time your character to move foward just before the attack begins, you will see the enemy react to the strike (die, stagger, magic, etc.) but you won't see your sword swing until about a second later. The effects I know of are:

1. You can perform the Master level atttack, regardless of your level. (I was at level 82)

2. If you run and then begin your power attack, your character will hold their weapon back through the duraction of your run, instead of just attack.

I found this glitch while running along the water surrounding the Imperial City, killing alot of Mudcrabs, so I'm guessing that if you can't quite get it right, just go on a massive killing spree and you might get it by chance.

[edit] Invisible Guard?

I think this glitch has something to do with the gray foxes cowl, beacuse this guard only appeared after I wore it for the first time. Basically I've got an invisible guard walking around IC. I notice him either when he walks right past me (The message "Talk to guard" appears), or when I commit a crime, and he tries to arrest me, or when I use a detect life spell (there's just a purple blob). This glitch makes thievery really difficult, as I never know whether the demon guard is there or not. If anyone knows how to solve this glitch, then please tell me.
Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:18, 6 March 2008 (EST)

P.S. The guard is in the temple district.

I cannot give anymore detail but this has happened to me... --Matthewest TCE 03:08, 27 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] leyawiin zombie guard

when you go to close the oblivion gate at leyawiin you will see a dead guard on the floor.when you close the gate and complete the story gop back to that oblivion gate and the guard will just be stood there.you can talk to him but he wont open his mouth.his face looks like he is dead but he is not.

[edit] NPCs Fall Apart In A Puddle Of Them Selves!

I did this on the Xbox 360 so, it may not work for PC. I killed an NPC then revived with the staff of worms and paralyzed them with a parlayze spell and waited. I did this repeatedly and the NPC fell apart! Can someone explain whats happening?

[edit] Clone Yourself in Oblivion

This glitch can be tricky but it is worth it.

Get the Skull of Corruption staff (Vaermina's shrine), make a custom Reflect Spell 100% on Touch/Target, get a Paralyze spell, and finally a summon spell - the larger the creature, the better.

  1. Summon a creature.
  2. Paralyze it.
  3. Cast Reflect Spell on it, then back up as far as you can without letting the spells run out.
  4. Shoot it with the Skull of Corruption.

If done correctly the fight music should turn on and a copy of you with all of your spells, equipment, and of course MONEY! [verification needed -- I was unable to get this to work on creatures or NPCs, but UOP may have fixed the glitch.]

  • Theres a WAY easier way to do this. Just find an NPC with no weapons, and drop the Skull in front of them. Punch them, and they'll pick up the skull and use it on you. Bam. Cloned. Mr. Spoon 20:45, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Animation Bug

This glitch occurs after prolonged gaming. The animation for magic, fire, leavers, switches and doors freeze. (Or progress VERY slowly) Aside from the annoyance of having frozen spell effects blocking your view, this glitch prevents any further progress, as doors within a cell will not swing open. Reloading a saved game from before the glitch occurs does not seem to help, the glitch will reoccur like clockwork. If the most recient save file was an hour before the glitch occured, it will reoccur in an hour. It does not seem to matter where the player is, what they are doing, or what quests are active. If anyone knows how to fix or get around this glitch (I'm playing on an Xbox 360) Please post. (This glitch is mentioned in the archives of this site already, but the link provided no longer links to a page.)

This is a well-known bug, but a fix only exists for the PC, the link for which can be found here.

[edit] Getting Yellow Team Armor on Xbox 360/PS3

This glitch is used for getting the light and heavy versions of the yellow team armor and their weapons.

First, find a lot of paintbrushes, at least 30. (Or duplicate them.) Then make your way to the betting area. Talk to the elf out front, and bet on the match. It does not matter who wins, because they never leave the arena. Watch the match if you'd like, or not. Begin making a paintbrush ladder, and get onto the roof of the betting area. Go to the very back of it (either side) and begin making a new ladder. Once you have used about 10 paintbrushes, look down. You MUST be above the generic fans.

  • SAVE BEFORE ATTEMPTING*

Jump down on them. You should fall throught the ground, and end up in the arena area. If not, re-load and try again. If you did, then go loot the dead Yellow Team member. (If he/she is not dead, just hit them with a sneak attack; they are usually almost dead anyways.) Loot them to your hearts content. You can take their weapons, armor, and shields.

Here's the hard part:

Go to the middle part of the arena, and start yet another ladder. Go towards the BLUE YEAM BETTING AREA, NOT THE YELLOW TEAM! (it's possible to get there, too, but there is nothing except some chairs.)

Begin going towards the generic fans again. Once you are above them, SAVE! It may take more than one attempt, but it's not very hard. Jump towards the betting area, and you should land there. If not re-load, and try again.

Once there, just leave the area, and you've got the armor.
