Player Statistic display shows only the current value of a stat. Stats show as green or red if they are modified by some effect but the normal value is not shown, so you cannot tell how much they are affected by. Tool tips would have been nice here, but there is no need as there is plenty of room to show the unmodified values or the increment of the change.
MajorJims UI fixes the problem.
Couldn't you just check the spell page, go to the last page on the spell section, look at what stat was increased, see how much it is (the game tells you, like FORTIFY RESTORATION 5), then just do the math? I know this isn't perfect, but you can at least see it.
The red bar only gives you a vague idea of far away you are from a skill increase.
On the spell page where it shows what affects your character, it shows what was increased or decreased, the values of said increase or decrease but it doesn't tell you for how long. I understand that for, say a spell, this doesn't matter because you could just check the spell. However for everything else: scrolls, potions, ingredients; it's impossible to tell! The game doesn't inform you of these things. It becomes an ever bigger problem when you do use more than one potion or scroll because you're trying to remember how long each of them will last.
There is no quick way to tell what stats are affected by temporary effects and which have been damaged and require restoration. You must dig through the magical effects on another tab to check.
Some "statistics" are useless, such as the "Jokes Told" statistic (Why just jokes? What about Admire, Boast, and Coerce? And why is it grouped with Diseases Contracted?") and the "Books Read" statistic. The game does not in any way keep track of whether you've already read each book or not. You can stand in one place and open up the same book over and over again, and your "Books Read" count will keep going up.
The number of times you've used admire, boast or coerce would be the same as the number of jokes told.
If you want to sit there opening the same book repeatedly, be my guest. Your game, your choice. For the rest of us it is just vaguely interesting to know how many times we've opened a book, especially after playing for 100+ hours.
There just interesting things to know, relax. I mean yeah it is ridiculous to see how many books you've read but just like the reply above, after 100 hours of play, you might be surprised. It's just interesting things, like a Guiness Book of World Records but in Oblivion... and only about your character.
