This article provides Tutorial gripes, as part of the Game Content section of the Gripes article.

Gripe The armor and weapons can be found in the Tutorial renders fur armor and iron weapons completely useless. For thsneak/light armor type characters the steel shortsword (or the katana till the end of the sanctum) found on Cpt. Renault's body is just perfect, for the "tank" or berserker type the iron warhammer (or, again, the katana) will do it until you get to the Slash and Smash to buy your brand new steel warhammer. (static item, on the table). Also, the rough leather cuirass and boots better than the fur armor pieces you will find on every bandit between level 1-3. Also, if you avoid shooting your bow inside - which is quite easy - you will end up around 250 pcs of iron arrows to practice once outside. In my opinion, the best weapons could be found there might be those rusty axes and daggers, making the start a challenge rather than the actual hero-out-of-the-box reality.

Reply Mod it, change the scripts. Or just don't pick it up.
Reply You can't pick up anyone's katana in the tutorial. Baurus will take it from you at the end.
Reply You can in fact get both of the dead captains katanas, the first way if to drop them before talking to Barus, or dont pick up the male captains katana before talking to Barus, then taking it from the corpse.

Gripe You can raise a lot of skills to insane levels. Sneak up to 100 at ease, block, heavy armor and light armor to 60+ and so on. The goblins equipped with anything save their pure fists will do so low damage that you can heal yourself constantly without running out of magicka.

ReplyIf you're willing to spend the time required to get to those levels in the tutorial, power to you. However, this is true of just about everywhere. You can train your block, armor, and restoration skills essentially until your gear breaks off of just one rat if you feel like it.

Gripe Too many items. When you pack everything you can find up to your max. carrying capacity, you can make 1700+ gold even if you head straight to the city right after leaving the dungeon. Just sell all the lockpicks but one, sell all weapons and potions, and you will be just 300 gold away from being a house owner on the same day you escaped from the prison.

Reply Why would you want to sell everything you own? Are you planning on taking on Mehrunes Dagon wearing Sack Cloth Pants and wielding a lockpick?

Gripe No blocked doors, obstacles, to-do's. You can run through the whole dungeon without killing anything and catch up with Uriel and the guys in like two minutes. The only thing you need is either a lockpick or the key from the dead body of the first goblin, which is already dead.

Reply Then... Just dont do it. A little self control isn't a bad thing. Just because a possibility is there doesnt mean you absolutely have to recklessly abuse it.
Reply There are a few mods which skip the tutorial completely and start you off in a port town similar to morrowind.

Gripe The fact that you don't select your class until the end of the tutorial is just retarded. One assumes that one was a mage, but somehow forgot all his spells until the moment he finally got out of prison.

Reply This is done so that one has had a feel of the game after before having to choose a class. If a totally new player was prompted to choose a class the moment he/she started the game, the player would have no idea which skills he/she preferred. Allowing the player to play a little before choosing his/her bonuses gives them an idea of what they might like their bonuses to be.
