Mannimarco, a male Altmer necromancer, is the arch-nemesis of the Mages Guild. He has launched an all-out attack against the Mages Guild in Cyrodiil. Mannimarco is the leader of two cults of necromancers, and also known as The King of Worms. This title may be an exclusive title for the leader, or it may be a nickname for Mannimarco himself. His Staff of Worms obviously implies his name, as does the "Worm Thrall" and "Worm Anchorite" names. It is possible the Staff of Worms is passed down from leader to leader. Mannimarco was Vanus Galerion's archenemy and both met each other in battle a long time before the series.
In addition to being seven levels above the player, Mannimarco also has a special birthsign ability which gives him a permanent +100 Fortify Health effect. He can cast the spells Immobilize, Lightning Ball, and Summon Lich, in addition to five random leveled necromancer-type spells (two Conjuration spells, two Destruction spells, and one Restoration spell). He is wearing the unique King of Worms' Robes.

Though Mannimarco is involved in most Mages Guild Quests, he only appears in the following:
- Confront the King: Find Mannimarco, and end the attacks on the Mages Guild.
[edit] Artifacts
Mannimarco has three known artifacts in the Elder Scrolls series and all three of them are in Oblivion. There is the Necromancer's Amulet, which drains the wearer's Strength and Endurance but fortifies their Willpower, Intelligence, Conjuration, and Magicka. There is also the Bloodworm Helm. This fortifies the wearer's Conjuration and, while wearing it, gives them a cheap spell that will absorb health, magicka, and fatigue on touch. Both of these artifacts must be given to Hannibal Traven to continue with the Mages Guild. The third artifact, happily, the player character can keep. This is the Staff of Worms. This can be used on any dead NPC (not creature) and will bring them back to life for 30 seconds. They will follow you and fight for you, similar to a summoned creature.
[edit] In Oblivion
When the game is started, Hannibal Traven has only just recently been promoted to the rank of Arch-Mage, and he immediately banned the practice of necromancy. This is probably why the necromancers are retaliating in Oblivion. The Mages Guild quest line, once the player character has completed the Recommendation quests, almost entirely deals with Necromancers. In fact, one of the Recommendation quests shows the Cheydinhal guild leader to be a Necromancer. Mannimarco attacks the Mages Guild. From Hannibal Traven's surprise at the information, it appears Mannimarco has continued pretending he was dead for hundreds of years. It is most likely he chose this time to attack either because he had a strong following, he believed the Daedric invasion would weaken the Mages Guild (although you can finish the Mages Guild quest line before even meeting Jauffre at Weynon Priory), or both. It is also possible he decided to launch his invasion due to Traven creating the sudden ban on necromancy which caused many members of the Mages Guild to quit.
[edit] Notes
- The name Mannimarco comes from the similar but transposed name of a Germanic tribe, the Marcomanni, which the historical Roman Empire defeated. An explanation for this may be that Cyrodiil, and hence the Imperials, are based on the Roman civilization.
- There is also a female test NPC named 'Mannimarco'. She is a Necromancer and is armed with the Staff of Worms as well as Mannimarco's spells. She is not found in the game.
