[edit] Detailed Walkthrough
[edit] Leyawiin Mages Guild
Speak with Dagail in the Leyawiin Mages Guild about your recommendation. She wants you to find her amulet for her and directs you to Agata. Speak with Agata about a Seer's Stone, which helped Dagail with her visions. Agata says to speak with the other mages in the guild to see if any of them knows where it might be. No one knows much, other than Kalthar, who seems to be bitter and glad the stone is missing. Return to Agata with what Kalthar said. She'll keep an eye on Kalthar and wants you to speak to Dagail about her father. Dagail doesn't make too much sense, but apparently you must find the fort where Dagail's father was stationed, somewhere near Leyawiin. (Fort Blueblood, a little ways South East of town is now marked on your map.)
[edit] Blueblood
The Fort is full of marauders. Make your way through until you find the marauder's main camp, which will have a tough Marauder Warlord. Kill him for a key (or steal it from him) to open a nearby door. Within this area you'll find Manduin's Coffin, in which will be Manduin's Amulet, the one which Dagail is looking for.
[edit] Worth Dying For
Once you find the amulet you'll be confronted by Kalthar, who will demand the amulet. He'll confess to stealing the amulet in an effort to see Dagail dismissed as leader of the Leyawiin Mages Guild and attack you. Deal with him, and loot his key from his body. Return to Dagail and Agata with the amulet and the news of Kalthar to receive your recommendation. Use the Seers Stone topic, which may require you to scroll down to see or Dagail will continue to say her "Nothing has changed child ..." dialog forever.
[edit] Notes
- After you defeat the marauders make sure you loot their bodies before you take the amulet because after you encounter Kalthar all the three bodies in the final area will disappear along with their armor and etc.
- The higher your level when you do this quest, the more likely you'll find some difficult battles on your way to Manduin's Coffin, particularly in the last area (land dreughs and spriggans at mid- to high- levels, for example). However, if you're sneaky enough, this last sequence can be made much easier, and you'll witness one of the most (unintentionally) amusing scenes in the game to boot. Try sneaking into this area, opening Manduin's Coffin to retrieve the Amulet, and then quickly making your way back toward the stairs, hiding in the darkness just to the right of them (casting an invisibility spell or drinking a potion immediately after closing the Coffin can help). If you time it properly, you'll reach this area just as Kalthar makes his way down the stairs, intent on taking the amulet from you. However, since he's not sneaking, he'll run smack into the monsters you've skillfully avoided. In the ensuing melee, you can make your way up the stairs and watch from above as Kalthar gets the stuffing beaten out of him repeatedly -- he's still marked as essential at this point, so he can't die - even when the monsters toss him around like a rag doll, he'll get up after a moment and get beaten up some more. Also note that, once Kalthar starts tangling with the beasties downstairs, you'll automatically be given the key to the upstairs door that he locked behind himself, so in case one of the monsters comes after you, you can easily lead it back to the large room outside and deal with it there. At any rate, once you tire of watching Kalthar get his well-deserved comeuppance, jump in to help him out and between the two of you, you'll make short work of the baddies. Once they're gone, he'll resume his normal behavior and the confrontation described above will kick in. Of course, at this point his health is practically zero so one or two hits will finish him easily.
- Look behind the headboard of the bed in Dagail's room for an alternate explanation of her loopy behavior (i.e. Cheap Wine, and lots of it).
[edit] Bugs
- Do not leave Fort Blueblood without encountering and talking to Kalthar. He should come running right after you retrieve the amulet from Manduin's Coffin. If you do leave before you will not be able to give the amulet to Dagail. If you kill Kalthar and leave before he speaks you cannot complete the quest. Once you speak to Dagail back at the guild, she will say that 'nothing has changed'. If you try to return to Kalthar's body, the door is locked. Meaning you cannot continue in the Mages Guild.
-
- This bug can be triggered if you lure the creatures in the final room outside to fight them but do not kill them. Even if you then return, you will probably not be able to talk to Kalthar, who still thinks that there are monsters that need to be killed.
- On the PC, if you do not wish to fight Kalthar, or you are not confronted by him, you can open the Console by pressing '~', and type:
setstage MG07Leyawiin 70
This should update your journal and you can continue as normal. If you do not do this, the quest will freeze at stage 60, and you cannot continue.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- Wearing Necromancer's Robes when Kalthar confronts you will result in him telling you to take them off instead of his normal dialogue, resulting in the bug mentioned above.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- The coffin containing "Manduin's Amulet" in Fort Blueblood will respawn after three days, meaning that it is possible to go back to the fort multiple times and retrieve multiple copies of the amulet (not that the amulet has any value; you're more likely to be interested in the new magical battleaxe that also respawns in the coffin).
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
[edit] Journal Entries
- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage quest stage. Wherequestis the internal name of the quest, andstageis the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
