Shrine of Namira

[edit] Quick Walkthrough

  1. You are deemed too attractive to worship Namira, so lower your personality to 20 or lower.
  2. Once you are unattractive, speak with Hjolfrodi and activate the shrine.
  3. You are next tasked with eliminating the priests in the Anga ruin. You are given a special spell, Namira's Shroud to deal with them.
  4. Travel to the Ayleid Ruin, Anga, and cast Namira's Shroud on the priests.
  5. Return to the shrine to be rewarded with the Ring of Namira.

[edit] Detailed Walkthrough

[edit] Get ugly

Go to the Shrine of Namira (southeast of Bruma). You must find the shrine on your own; no one will tell you where it is. Once there, talk to Hjolfrodi the Harrier and you will learn that you are too attractive to worship Namira. You just need to lower your Personality to 20 or lower. As long as your Personality is at most 60, you can do this by drinking cheap wine (one effect of which is to drain Personality 10 points for 2 minutes), available in any town or city. Since at most four potions can be drunk at once, cheap wine will not be powerful enough if your Personality is greater than 60; in that case, you will need to take more drastic steps, as detailed in the next section. Once back at the shrine, drink the wine and make sure your Personality is at or below 20. Quickly talk to Hjolfrodi and then quickly activate the shrine (both steps require low Personality).

[edit] Reducing your Personality

Drinking cheap wine is definitely the easiest way to reduce your personality. But if you need to reduce your personality by more than 40 points, here are some options (all of which can be done in conjunction with drinking cheap wine). You can also hotkey the cheap wine to keep using it.

  • The Drink More than Four Potions exploit makes it possible to drink more than four cheap wines at once, by quickly closing and opening your inventory after drinking the first four. If you don't mind taking advantage of exploits, this provides an easy solution.
  • You can buy one of several unique items available in stores:
  • You can make your own Damage Personality potions, although this is tricky:
    • You need an Alchemy skill level of 50 to be able to recognize the third effect of ingredients.
    • You need to also mix in a positive effect so that the resulting potion is drinkable. Luckily, some of the most common ingredients with Damage Personality (flour, leeks, pumpkin) automatically give the positive effect Restore Fatigue.
    • When making the potion, be sure to not use an alembic (remove it from your inventory): the alembic will weaken the negative effect you are trying to achieve.
    • Effects are cumulative. Damage effects are lasting, unlike Drain effects which are temporary. A typical potion does 1-2 pts. damage per second over a few seconds and will result in a total of about 8-16 pts lasting damage. You may repeatedly drink additional potions to decrease personality to zero if you so choose.
    • Use a Chapel or Restore Personality effect to reverse the damage.
  • A custom Drain Personality on self spell can be made although gaining access to this effect is difficult, as explained in more detail in the Drain Attribute article.
  • If you have completed the Repairing the Orrery quest, the Secunda's Opportunity greater power will decrease your Personality by 20, while simultaneously increasing your Luck by 20.

[edit] Anga

It's now time to carry out the task that Namira has set for you. Head to the Ayleid ruin Anga to the south of the shrine.

Namira gave you the spell Namira's Shroud, which is a Novice-level alteration spell with a base cost of 50 Magicka. Most characters should be able to cast it, although characters with low Alteration skill levels will have a higher Magicka cost (see Spell List Notes) and may need fortified magicka. To complete the quest, you need to cast Namira's Shroud on each of the priests in the ruins. The Forgotten will then kill them. Do not attack the priests yourself or you WILL NOT get the reward. When all four priests are dead, you'll get a journal entry.

Return to the shrine to receive the Ring of Namira, a ring with a powerful Reflect Damage and Reflect Spell enchantments.

[edit] Dialogue

At the start of the quest, Namira says:

You dare approach my shrine, Child of the Light? You, who walk this plane basking in the light of the warm, cruel sun? Prove to me that you deserve my favor. In Anga, my Forgotten have lived in peace for many years. They worship me from the dark, basking in their misery and filth. Now, though, some would seek to bring light to their darkness. Priests of Arkay have intruded upon their squalor. I want you to help my Forgotten kill these priests of the Light. Cast this spell upon the priests. Allow my beloved Forgotten to kill the interlopers. When this is done, I shall reward you for your efforts.

When you complete the quest, she says:

You have cleansed my followers' perfect darkness. The Forgotten are free to wallow in their misery. Take my ring. Let it bring pain to others who would wish it upon you. Namira blesses you.

[edit] Notes

  • This quest is much easier if you start it early in the game (before your Personality reaches 60).
  • If you do not have enough Magicka to cast Namira's Shroud, you can obtain a temporary Magicka boost from the nearby Ayleid Well, located directly south of Anga on the road between Sercen and the Roxey Inn.
  • If you hold off on completing this quest, you get to keep the spell Namira gives you. She only takes it away when you complete the quest. You can then have fun with it in other places. Cast it at anybody holding a torch, and it will extinguish it. They'll usually attack you, however, and may report it as a crime. The spell may also be of use in the Unearthing Mehrunes Razor quest, where a number of opponents use torches to make the lives of the sneaky difficult.
  • Deep inside the Anga ruins, there's a room with two undead in it. To avoid fighting these undead, hit the button to open that room before all the torch bearers are dead and let the priests fight them for you. Take out the torches and get all the loot once the undead are defeated.
  • To successfully complete this quest and receive the Ring of Namira, you must be sure to not kill any of the Forgotten and also to not kill any of the priests yourself. If you fail either of these requirements, you will get an update telling you that you have failed the quest, and the quest will be over. This will also prevent you from ever being able to start Hermaeus Mora's quest; unlike most of the other Daedric Quests, Namira's quest must be successfully completed to count towards Hermaeus Mora's requirements.
  • The Forgotten Ones will recoil from any torchlight, including that of the player, inhibiting their ability to kill the Priests. This can be avoided by using a Night Eye spell. If you feel particularly evil, you can cast Namira's Shroud upon the Priests of Arkay, and then proceed to draw your own torch. The Forgotten Ones will shy away from the light, allowing the Priest to beat them to death with impunity. Note however, that the Forgotten must kill every Priest in order to complete the quest. Saving first is recommended.
  • The Namira's Shroud spell changes the torch carried by the targeted priest of Arkay from a standard torch to a special type of torch that cannot be lit. After the priests have died, you can retrieve these torches. They will be listed separately in your inventory from other torches. If you equip one of them, the torch will go out immediately.

[edit] Journal Entries

Namira (DANamira)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 I have learned from the followers of Namira, that they will only summon the Daedra for someone repulsive. If I am to get their help, I will need to make my self less attractive to others. [You must be level 5 to begin this quest.]
20 The followers of Namira have decided that I am repulsive enough to summon the Daedra. I may now approach the statue.
30 When summoned, Namira spoke to me about the Forgotten, a group of fanatical worshippers that lives in the darkness of Anga. Some priests of Arkay are planning to bring light to Anga and "save" the Forgotten Ones. I am to use the spell that Namira has given me on the priests, and let the Forgotten Ones finish them off.
40 All of the priests of Arkay are dead. I should return to the shrine.
100 0Yes Namira appreciated my efforts. I have been rewarded with the Ring of Namira.
105 0Yes I have killed one of the priests of Arkay, though I was to allow Namira's Forgotten to do it. I have failed in the task set out by Namira.
110 0Yes I have killed one of Namira's Forgotten Ones. I have failed my quest for the Daedric Prince.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage quest stage. Where quest is the internal name of the quest, and stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
