Oblivion:Nine Divines
The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
The Nine Divines faction comprises the people working at the Great Chapels in each of the major cities in Cyrodiil. Normally, the player cannot join this faction. However, the Knights of the Nine official plug-in makes it possible to join the Nine Divines faction and achieve the rank of Pilgrim.
Each city has a chapel devoted to one of the nine. Additionally, each of the cities specializes in one of the eight attributes of your character, offering restore and fortify spells in that attribute, much as the Mages Guilds each specialize in a single school of magic. The exceptions to this are Anvil's chapel, which specializes in both Luck and Personality, and Kvatch, which does not have any. (It's possible that due to the destruction of Kvatch, the Anvil chapel was forced to take over their duties.) Also, Akatosh is represented in two cities, the Imperial City and Kvatch, and Kynareth is not represented in any cities. The Knights of the Nine adds the Shrine of Kynareth, located outside the cities since she is the goddess of all things earthly and natural.
The staff at each chapel consists of at least 3 people:
- Primate: In charge of all administrative duties at the temples.
- Healer: Provides healing for the citizens of the city. (Though not for you.)
- Priest/Priestess: They each sell mostly Restoration spells, though they'll also have a selection of Turn Undead spells from the school of Conjuration. Aside from standard healing spells, they will each sell spells to restore or fortify the attribute(s) with which their individual temple is associated.
The Primate and Healer do not generally offer any services, though a few of them are trainers. Additionally, some temples have a Living Saint, or a mortal representative of their respective Divine.
Each chapel contains 10 altars - one to each of the Nine, and a tenth which will Cure Disease, Restore all Attributes by 100pts, and Restore Health 200pts. The individual altars will each Fortify an Attribute by 5pts for 5 minutes. (With the exception of Arkay's which will Fortify Health 10pts instead.) Additionally, each divine has 3-4 Wayshrines located in the wilderness. In order to receive blessings from the altars in the chapels, you must first have visited a Wayshrine to the same Divine first. The Wayshrines themselves offer a blessing similar to the altars, but twice as potent, and with the restorative effects of the main altar as well. Use them sparingly - you cannot use another shrine to the same Divine again until your Fame increases. Visiting one Wayshrine to each Divine will reward you with a once-a-day power called "Pilgrim's Grace", which Fortifies all Attributes by 10pts for 5 minutes. Finally, there is one more altar, located in the Temple of the One in the Imperial City, which provides the blessing Favor of Akatosh. In addition to the usual restorative powers, it will fortify your Luck and Personality 25pts each for 86400 seconds (one day; as with all effects, it is measured in real time, not game time). The shrine in the Temple of the One is available only after completing the Main Quest.
When you become part of this faction, you can freely enter the chapel hall and undercroft in each Chapel without it being trespassing.

[edit] Other Locations
[edit] Cadlew Chapel
This place was once a small temple to the Nine, but it has fallen into disrepair, and desecrated by Necromancers. The significance of this place is not known.
[edit] Cloud Ruler Temple
While not technically a Nine Divines temple, it is the headquarters of The Blades, with whom they are closely allied.
[edit] Dead Wayshrines
There are two Wayshrines which are completely inactive. You can find them here and here. Their purpose is a complete mystery.
[edit] Gottlesfont Priory
A small priory, inhabited only by Sisters Angrond and Phebe Jeanard. Neither offers any services or is involved in any quests, but the Priory is a good place to find certain alchemical ingredients growing.
[edit] Shrine of Kynareth
The Knights of the Nine official plug-in adds a Shrine of Kynareth west of the Imperial City on the edge of the Great Forest. It is a small shrine, similar in appearance to one of the Daedric Shrines.
[edit] Temple of the Ancestor Moths
The retired keepers of the Elder Scrolls live here, tended by younger priests. What relationship they may have with the Nine Divines has not been specified, but it's probable there is some connection.
[edit] Weynon Priory
In addition to serving as a home for Jauffre, Grandmaster of The Blades, the Priory is also home to a few more traditional members of the Nine Divines, Brother Piner and Prior Maborel.
