Red Diamond Jewelry

Red Diamond Jewelry is a jewelry store located in the Imperial City Market District. [edit]

The store is run by a Nord named Hamlof Red-Tooth, and opens from 8am to 8pm everyday. The high value and low weight of the store's inventory makes Red Diamond Jewelry a popular destination for budding thieves.

Hamlof, the store's proprietor, keeps his entire stock of merchandise on his person. He will wear the best quality items in his inventory, including enchanted items purchased from the player. One implication is that items he offers for sale can instead be pickpocketed from him. Another implication is that any items you sell him will never disappear: if you need quick cash, you can sell him items you may later need, then return and buy them back. However, if you sell him too many items, it will take a long time for the game to load his inventory each time you barter with him.

Two of the red display cases in the store are locked with unpickable locks; they can only be opened if you acquire the Bit and Bridle Key carried by Hamlof. The other two display cases have pickable locks (hard or very hard difficulty, depending upon your level) and cannot be opened using the Bit and Bridle Key. The items contained in all four display cases are fixed: they do not level up with the player nor do they restock once stolen.

The four counters in the store contain leveled, respawning jewelry: each counter will contain one or two pieces of leveled jewelry (75% chance for the second item). The jewelry will never be enchanted.

Notes

  • The store was probably originally meant to be for horses rather than jewelry, an idea presumably dropped because in Oblivion horses are not supposed to go inside walled cities. The shop's initial name was "The Bit and Bridle", a name which is still used for the associated faction and the associated key. The key is carried by Hamlof and opens both the front door and the two display cases inside the store. The faction is shared by Hamlof and Ris Fralmoton, an ostler who was presumably the original shopkeeper.
  • The unique Spectre Ring should be available for purchase here. However, the item's ownership is still attributed to Ris Fralmoton, instead of Hamlof, and as such it does not appear in Hamlof's stock.
