Spell Absorption M points for D seconds

Spell Absorption is an M% chance to convert all of the energy from a hostile spell into your Magicka points and avoid its potentially damaging effect. For example, if you had 50% Spell Absorption, every second spell (on average) cast at you would simply refill your Magicka, depending on the strength of the spell, instead of otherwise affecting you.

Characters with the Atronach birthsign have permanent 50% Spell Absorption. Tips on how to take advantage of Spell Absorption effects are provided on the Atronach page.

[edit] Notes

  • This effect actually uses points instead of percentage as the units for the magnitude; however, this may just be an oversight/glitch, since the effect works as if the units were percentage. The reason points are used is because percent would suggest that with every spell cast on you a percentage of the spell's magicka cost is absorbed similar to the way reflect damage works. The point system is used instead where 1 point = 1% chance to absorb the spell's magicka cost and replenish your magicka. Therefore, getting over 100 points is useless because you cannot have more than a 100% chance.
  • Even if you have the Atronach birthsign, custom Spell Absorption enchantments are not possible: this effect is disabled at the Enchanting Altar. However, the enchantment IS possible through the use of Sigil Stones.
  • 100 pt Spell Absorption is easiest to achieve for Atronach characters, who start out with 50 pts. Other pieces of equipment that can be combined to get the extra 50 pts include:
  • As a side note, 100% Spell Absorption seems to block the effects of a Telekinesis spell, rendering you unable to cast the spell until you have less than 100%, and then the chances of success are still determined by your active Spell Absorption.
