The artifact Umbra is a sword obtained by slaying its wielder, as in Morrowind. This time, however, it is a one handed weapon carried by a female Bosmer, also named Umbra. She and the sword are encountered during the Clavicus Vile Daedric Quest. Be forewarned, there is a crash glitch associated with this quest in unpatched versions of the game. See Clavicus Vile Bugs for more information. Although this sword is associated with a Daedric quest, it is not considered a Daedric Artifact for the quest Blood of the Daedra or for your character's statistics page.
[edit] Notes
- In Morrowind, Umbra was a two-handed claymore, but in Oblivion, it is a one-handed longsword.
- Umbra is Latin for shadow or ghost.
- Umbra closely resembles an Ebony Longsword from Morrowind. It is also generally similar to a fine steel longsword, but black in color.
- Umbra actually has no holder or sheath at the players belt. [verification needed — Is this notable? A very quick check shows that most swords do have scabbards (I checked all the shortswords, and all but the Dwarven Shortword had scabbards, plus Glass and Ebony longswords and daggers had them), but is this effect rare enough to warrant a mention, and if so, where?]
