Oblivion talk:Alval Uvani
The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
Alval Uvani is a sour sort, to be sure, but some of his behavior is very odd indeed! I had just begun the master trainer quest from Sindarion, and I was still in the West Weald Inn, facing Erina Jeranus at the counter when suddenly Alval started attacking someone. Turning around, I saw him fighting with Graklak gro-Buglump. Other wiki entries have suggested that this can happen perhaps because Graklak tries to steal from Alval, but I didn't see that happen, so I don't know for sure. Anyway, I felt that Graklak needed some help, so I pulled out Goldbrand and hit Alval once, thinking that he was the aggressor. Alval responded with the normal ally response of "I'm on YOUR side!", so I stopped. Well, they both ran outside then back in again, and Alval finished off poor Graklak, killing him right there in the middle of the inn. The odd thing was that instead of returning to his normal, sour self, Alval then immediately went after Erina Jeranus behind the counter. She fled outside with Alval in pursuit. She must have gone far enough down the street to get the Skingrad guards' attention, because by the time I got outside, they had already engaged Alval in the street at the bottom of the hill and soon killed him. Erina returned to her normal post and seemed no worse off for the experience. What do you think happened to provoke this behavior from Alval Uvani? I guess he treated me as an ally because I have just started the Dark Brotherhood quest line, and so as a member of the DB he might leave me alone. And I can understand the bit with Graklak, but Erina never moved from behind the counter as far as I could tell, so why did he go after her too? Tyranun 18:54, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
- Alval Uvani attacking other NPCs is just peculiar, but not unusual, AI behaviour. There is no obvious animation for stealing/pickpocketing when NPCs do it, so you could just have missed that.
- "I'm on your side!" is always said when you hit a non-hostile NPC for the first time. In this case the context was a bit confusing, but the phrase just refers to the fact that the NPC is not hostile, and it doesn't refer to the sides taken in combat. --Timenn < talk > 05:33, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
