I changed this section so it ties into the daedric quests pages (and not into a non-existent Gutted Mine Quest), moved Azura-specific material to the Azura quest page, and merged together redundant bullets. Some bullets I deleted and why:

"Half way between the Lake Arrius Caverns and Azura's Shrine you'll find the Ayleid Well where you can refresh your magical strength. (Note it can only be used once so don't use it unless you really need it)."

I took this comment out, because it's easily possible to travel from Lake Arrius Caverns to Azura's Shrine without passing any ayleid wells. (And there is more than just one ayleid well, and they can be used more than once, just not more than once per day....)

"If you are willing to go for a tough fight, try the Mask of Clavicus Vile. This can be obtained even with characters below level 10 by killing the NPC Umbra at Vindasel first, and then visiting the shrine. You will have to persuade Ma'Raska at the shrine, but this is possible if the character already has Umbra's sword in their possession when they visit Clavicus Vile's shrine."

This information is already available on the Clavicus Vile page. And this info doesn't give you much help with deciding which daedric artifact to give to Martin: even if you think that the Masque of Clavicus Vile is one of the less useful artifacts, is it worth giving up Umbra just to get an artifact to give to Martin? --Nephele 04:09, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Oghma Infinium

Is it true that the Oghma Infinium (from Hermaeus Mora) can not be given to Martin for this quest? My understanding (and what it says on the Hermaeus Mora quest page) is that Blood of the Daedra must be started (not finished) to be able to start on Hermaeus Mora's quest. And I thought one of the reasons for this requirement was to ensure that a player would be able to get a daedric artifact to complete Blood of the Daedra (even if a player did this quest really late in the game, and had somehow managed to get then lose all of the other artifacts). I'm working towards being able to test this myself, but it'll probably be a few more weeks. In the meantime, can anyone confirm whether or not the Oghma Infinium can be used here? --Nephele 15:15, 2 August 2006 (EDT)

I just tested this, and I was indeed able to give Martin the Oghma Infinium to complete this quest. Not that it's a particularly smart choice (especially since at that point you have all 14 other artifacts), but it it possible. So I've modified the page accordingly. --Nephele 02:24, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

[edit] Level One

Is it possible to do this at level one, or will I have to gain a level? I've completed all the city/misc quests, fighter/mage/thief/dark brotherhood and arena quests, as level one. Now I have to gain a level? rats...

[edit] Wabbajack

No doubt a debate of "value" could go on forever, but I thought the Wabbajack was pretty darn funny turning mud crabs into daedra or deer (ie: worth keeping for occasional laughs). I mean, who needs yet another enchanted warhammer or mace or ring? You can only use 1 weapon at a time and 2 rings at once anyway. But I'll let it go - I agree the Azura Star is likely the worst Daedra Artifact to waste this way. The Sanguine Rose is likely the artifact I'll use for this. --Angmojoe 11:34pm, 04-Sep-2006 (CST)

[edit] Doable at level 1

Murder Umbra (the warrior), take Umbra (the sword) to Clavicus Vile's shrine. Clavicus Vile will ask you to "Give me the sword, as we agreed" - even though you haven't talked to Clavicus yet, haven't paid 500 septims, and have made no such agreement. You get the Mask of Clavicus Vile, and you can hand it in to Martin.

I think it would be a lot easier to gain a level and use wabbajack than killing umbra at level one... --Viccce 13:44, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
The original author of this isn't stating what's the easier way— he's saying that it's possible to acquire an Artifact at Level 1, thus it should be possible to conduct this quest at Level 1. The quest information at the top of this page says that Level 2 is required to finish the quest (in order to obtain an artifact). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.91.171.36 (talkcontribs).
There are various "easy" ways to get her killed even at level 1. Also some people may find the Wabbajack to be quite useful at higher levels and some may like to just play around with it whereas the Masque Of Clavicus Vile is almost completely useless. --Sundaroct131088 06:56, 14 August 2007 (EDT)
Yes, but it requires you to give up the Umbra sword, which is much more valuable than either Wabbajack or the Masque. So it's really a toss-up... --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:16, 14 August 2007 (EDT)
Umbra being worth more than the Masque or Wabbajack is debatable. I found Goldbrand, and even just a dadric longsword enchanted with a sigil stone to be more useful, as they both have a high base damage and then the very high, and in the sigil stone's case, unbeatable damage enchantments. For me, Umbra is just sitting in a display case looking pretty. --Darkle 27 August 2007
True. Now that I think of it, although it IS possible to do this quest at level 1, doing it at level 2 is recommended. --Sundaroct131088 06:39, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Blade of Ebony

The blade of ebony isn't on the list of what martin say when he recieves the artifact... --Viccce 13:46, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. --Nephele 14:05, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Way to keep all artifacts and still do this quest.

The way i did this and kept all artifacts is to get Sanguine Rose, which is pretty easy to get, and do the duplicate items on it. Even though its unique and you cannot usually duplicate unique items, it works. (I had three because i had no room left in my inventory for more) I took them to martin, but just to be safe i dropped two of them and gave him the remaining one. He takes it just as he would normally, but after the conversation i picked up the other weapons. I can still use them and i am done with the quest. And at the end of the game, You can still have every artifact. -JRM

Azura's Star and the Ring of Khajiiti are also subject to this glitch and can be used similarly. --Sundaroct131088 07:10, 14 August 2007 (EDT)
Wabbajack also works I just duplicated it

[edit] Mehrunes Razor

Can it be used in this quest? I am doubtful, but just checking, anyway. --Merco 13:00, 9 October 2007 (EDT)

No - just the ones mentioned on the page can be used. --RpehTCE 02:11, 10 October 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Bug?

On rare occasions starting this quest will permanently stop you from getting Azura's Star. Even when this quest is complete, the quest will stay in your quest log.

I've moved this bug comment here from the main page because it really doesn't provide any useful information. I've never heard of such a bug before, and saying that simply occurs on "rare occasion" doesn't provide readers with any useful information about what causes it. And I'm not sure what exactly is supposed to be the problem about having a quest you haven't done stay in your quest log. All in all, this really needs a lot more information before it seems ready to be on the main article. --NepheleTalk 10:30, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
